Last Saturday we drove through the Tampa, FL area and over to Palm Harbor. It's nestled between Clearwater and Tarpon Springs. What a beautiful place, and right on the water. We were at the Palm Harbor Assembly of God church two years ago and it was a delight to return again to be with Pastor Joe Peterson and his wife, Cathy. They were well known evangelists who cris-crossed the U.S. years ago. They have been pastoring in Palm Harbor for the past several years. It is a great church with warm and friendly people. We had a wonderful service and altar call response. Pastor Joe said, "It was a delight having Larry and Gloria back with us in Palm Harbor, FL...

Hello from Winter Haven, FL. My heart certainly goes out to the people all through the U.S. for the nasty weekend weather they had to endure. So many places we've called are buried in snow. I told a friend in Wisconsin last night, "Aren't you happy spring is almost here...and that this isn't the beginning of winter?" After hearing about all the snow in our home area of South Dakota, a gentleman in church asked me, "Why would anyone live in South Dakota, Minnesota or North Dakota?" I answered him, "Anyone can live in sunny Florida, Arizona, Texas or beautiful Hawaii...but it takes a real tough person to be able to survive those blustery, snowy, icy, sub-temperatures in the Midwest. Yes, we are survivors," I told him. He chuckled and quipped, "I wouldn't call that tough....I'd call it dumb!" Oh well, to each his own opinion. But then, when I stop to think about it, that's why we're here in Florida. Ha!

We enjoyed Altar call at Christ Church A/G in Palm Harbortheir music and so appreciated their anointed ministry and God's touch on their lives. As always, souls came to the altar and that's why we love having them come. We've known the Lundstrom's since way back in the sixties, so it was fun going down memory lane with them while they were visiting."

Another special couple who is on staff with Pastor Peterson is Carl and Betty Malz. Carl worked with Lundstrom Ministries for years and spoke at the Family Life weekend with us. Betty is a well-known author whose book, "My Glimpse of Eternity" shares her testimony of how she was clinically dead for 28 minutes Carl and Betty Malzand how God literally raised her up from her death bed. Carl and Betty have not only been wonderful friends but godly mentors to us. We are always able to glean something from them, and it was such a joy to see them again. Carl said, " What a joy to be with Larry and Gloria again. We share so many fond memories of our ministry together while we were all part of the Lowell Lundstrom Ministry team. I told Larry and Gloria, 'You get better every time I hear you.' Larry's message was great and we enjoyed hearing Gloria's testimony of how God healed her from her ladder accident. The fire of the Holy Spirit burns in them more brightly than ever." We were also Vic and Marge Unruhhonored to have Rev. and Mrs. Vic Unruh, formally of Kansas, with us. We've ministered many times in their churches through the years. They always have smiles on their faces and a great attitude. Everyone who meets them, including us, are always encouraged and ministered unto by the love and warmth that flows out of them.

LaShawn and her Daddy

Oh yes-we had another unexpected surprise last week. Our daughter LaShawn called and said she was in Tampa, just an hour and a half away from us. So we drove over and spent the evening with her. The good part about LaShawn and Donovan working and traveling is that sometimes our paths cross while we are en route somewhere. Of course, as you can see by this photo, Daddy is always happy to see his girl.

Last Thursday I was fighting a bug of some sort...but, like the mail must go through... I threw myself together as best as I could to get to the library and do some work. As much as I tried to look good I still thought that I looked grungy! Briefcase in tow I was walking a block and a half from the parking lot towards the library. I was thinking of how awful I felt and thought to myself, "Oh, I hope I don't look as bad as I feel." Just then I heard a voice holler out, "Lady, you are sooo beautiful. You are the most beautiful lady I've seen today...you are beautiful!" I thought, "There must be someone else on this street." Slowly and as inconspicuously as I could, I looked in each direction and I was the only one on the street. Again, only louder and in a higher pitch I heard, "Yes, lady! It's you! You're so beautiful!" I finally got up enough nerve to turn around to see who it was. It was a street drunk, literally hanging onto a light pole, staggering, trying to stand, with his liquor bottle in a brown paper bag. I cracked up laughing. I thought "That explains the compliment...he's not even in his right mind. He's drunk!" But, he did encourage me and made my day. God has such a great sense of humor!

We all go through times where we feel less than beautiful or handsome. Sometimes we question our worth and our confidence and sometimes we even question our worth to God. John 15:15 says that Jesus is our Lord and Savior and He proclaims, "I've called you friend." Don't you love that? A good thing about a true friend is that he loves at all times, through all circumstances. No strings attached...it's what is called true, unconditional love. That's the love Jesus has for us. When you are having "one of those days" remember that God loves you and you are special to Him. Let that encouragement spur you on and have a great week!

CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK

A minister was planning a wedding at the close of the Sunday morning service. After the benediction, he planned to call the couple down for a brief ceremony in front of the congregation. But for the life of him, he couldn't think of the names of those who were to be married. "Will those wanting to get married please come to the front?" he questioned.

Immediately, nine single ladies, three widows, four widowers and six single men stepped to the front.

COOKING HINT OF THE WEEK

To determine whether an egg is fresh, immerse it in a pan of cool, salted water. If it sinks, it is fresh; if it rises to the surface, throw it away.

We had a wonderful, action-packed week. Larry has been busy booking services for the rest of 2007 and has much of 2008 booked. Last night he came in with the schedule book and said, "Honey, can I have a few minutes of your time to okay this schedule?" I obliged and he continued, "Now... in January 2009 what direction..." I cut him off and said, "Hey...hold on...I'm trying to get through this week...and you're talking about 2009? Not today, babe." He just looked at me and chuckled.

February 21, 2007

It's a beautiful Florida day! The temperature is supposed to be 70 degrees plus. That is a welcome change because for the past four nights the temperature has dropped down to 29 degrees. That's hard on the citrus and fruit industry here in Florida where they are so dependant on nice weather for their crops. It has been so windy and cold here that you would almost think we were back in the mid-west the way the Floridians bundle up in winter coats, gloves, beanies and scarves! I chuckle thinking about it because when I called back to our Sisseton, South Dakota office on Monday our secretary chirped, "It's so beautiful here today, it went from zero to 36 degrees and everyone is running around town without coats!" I told her, "Remember, this is a teaser as South Dakota has a long winter yet to go."

I cut him off and said, "Hey...hold on...I'm trying to get through this week...and you're talking about 2009? Not today, babe." He just looked at me and chuckled. In road evangelism you have to book a year or so out and carefully plan your itinerary location as everything has to fit togetherDonovan hard at work! like a puzzle when you are traveling coast to coast. I understand what he has to do to make it work, but it was just one of those days. I was living hour by hour. I looked at him, smiled and said, "Not today, try landing tomorrow." HA! We had a pleasant surprise last Saturday. Our son, Donovan was working a job at Sea World running sound for a concert in Orlando. He was only an hour from where we are so we drove over and he got us in free. It was so much fun to see him even though he was so very busy working. At least we got to see him in action. We miss him so much. It's hard to have your children grow up and leave home, especially when they live so far away. He's based out of Nashville, TN but is gone most of the time on the road so we don't get to see him as often as we'd like to. It was 28 degrees that morning so the concert that afternoon was cold and windy. Once again, it was comical to see these Floridians wrapped up in coats and blankets like mummies, ha!

After seeing Donovan on Saturday afternoon we drove to Cocoa, FL, which isPastor Leslie Ray and his wife Kelly only six miles from Cocoa Beach. By the way, Larry calls the town "Hot Cocoa, FL". We had a wonderful Sunday morning service. It was a joy to be back with Pastor Leslie Ray and his family at Cocoa First Assembly of God. On their church van the words "The Church That Loves" are written; and how true that is. When we walked in the doors they greeted us as if we were lost cousins that they hadn't seen in years. We had a sweet morning service and a good altar call response. One couple who had driven by the church on Sunday morning looked at the marquee, saw our names on it, (they didn't know Altar call at First Assembly in Cocoa, FLwho we were) and felt drawn to pull into the church parking lot and come into the service. When the altar call was given they responded along with several others and gave their hearts to Christ for the first time. I'm always thrilled to see how God draws people to Himself. This time He used the church sign. Never underestimate the value of advertising.

June Creel was a director of counseling and is a Gloria and Junegreat lady who has a loving heart for the lost and hurting. June said, "I enjoyed Larry and Gloria's ministry through music and preaching of the word.John and Larry Most of all I appreciated the altar call and response. I was so blessed by those who made decisions for Christ."  It was also a joy to meet John Harden. His love for God just spilled out all over. John said, "I loved your ministry, brother. Boy, you brought some spirit into that service. I was blessed by your music and message."

I'm out here in the coach writing this. I have the windows open so I can smell the sweet aroma of the orange blossoms. I never get tired of that. The orange grove is literally about one hundred feet from me, or less. We were told last week that the sweetest oranges are the ones that haven't been treated to give Looks delicious...but does it taste delicious?them the nice orange color. Of course, I didn't know that they spray them with something to make the orange color come out of them. They continued, "The ones that look kind of brownish and ugly are the sweetest tasting ones." Being Norwegian, I just had to challenge that. I walked down into the grove and found a beautiful big, orange-colored, orange. My taste buds were Looks pretty beat up, but it tastes the best!dancing anxiously waiting to try the first segment of the orange. I quickly peeled it, put the segment of orange in my mouth and ugh, it was so tough, tart and bitter. I puckered up and spit it out. What a disappointment! It looked so perfect and delicious. Then I went back to my cousins orange tree and took off a navel orange. It looked kind of scrungy and brownish in some spots. As soon as I began to peel it, the juice was oozing out. I put it in my mouth. It was so sweet and juicy; I just stood there and delighted in each bite.

I was kind of reminded of how we can prejudge people. Sometimes we judge by the outer appearance supposing the inner person is perfect, good and altogether. And don't we also prejudge others who may not look as pretty, handsome, intelligent, or may not be well dressed or dressed for success...as if they don't have much to offer? I must admit I have done that. Matthew 7:1 says, "Judge not that ye be judged not." There's a saying that goes, "You can't always judge the book by it's cover." Often times people with less physically desirable "covers" often have been people who have so much love to give and have great spiritual depth. Many of them have ministered into my life. I'm thankful that God doesn't judge us by our cover but by our heart and love for Him. In Psalm 51 David cried out, "Create in me a clean heart O God, and renew a right spirit within me." It is my desire that I will have a clean heart and a right spirit, and that whoever I meet, they will see the sweetness of Jesus will ooze out of me. This world is looking for Jesus. Let them find Him in us. Well, it's time to go again. Be blessed and have a great week!

CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK

The preacher spent his whole sermon relating the evils of sin and how all men are sinners with no exceptions. At the end of the sermon, he asked rhetorically, "Now does anyone here think they are without sin?" He had only to wait a few seconds before a man in one of the back pews stood up.

The pastor asked the man who had the audacity to stand after such a fiery sermon, "Sir, do you really think you are completely without sin?"

The man quickly answered, "No sir, I'm not standing up for myself, but for my wife's first husband."

Happy Valentine's Day on this beautiful Florida day! There is nothing like waking up to sunshine...it just makes the day start right. We have been privileged to be able to park our motor home at the home of my cousins, Gary & Janet Stubenrauch, by Cypress Gardens Lake in Winter Haven, FL. They have graciously opened up their home offices to allow us to work out of and we've been able to drive out for weekend ministry. Amidst our busy schedule we have been able to visit and get caught up on years past. Last Thursday, Dorothy Burleson, who is my dad's sister and my cousin's mother, flew in from California to visit. Dorothy just turned 90 last week. What a delight to see her again!

Happy Valentine's Day on this beautiful Florida day! There is nothing like waking up to sunshine...it just makes the day start right. We have been privileged to be able to park our motor home at the home of my cousins, GaryGary & Janet & Janet Stubenrauch, by Cypress Gardens Lake in Winter Haven, FL. She is so vivacious and such a godly woman and prayer warrior. All of my family is precious to us, but I have a special place in my heart for aunt Dorothy. She is greatly responsible for getting our family to go to church. That was back in the early 50's (Hmm...that's over a half century ago). Dorothy, her husband Frank, and their family lived 12 miles from us, just over the Minnesota border in the little Aunt Dorothycommunity of Browns Valley. They were loving and persistent and kept inviting us to go to church. We always had an excuse, "too busy, not now or another time". Finally they came and insisted that we go with them. All it took was once! We all went into this little Gospel Tabernacle in Sisseton, South Dakota. We loved the happy, foot-stomping, hand-clapping music. The message was powerful and anointed, and we experienced and found something we had never felt before. Most of the people were like us...they appeared not to have much as far as earthly goods, but they were all so happy because they had Jesus! Their joy just bubbled out of them. Their true happiness made us thirst after "whatever they had".Gloria and Janet We wanted it! Soon our family received Christ and WOW what a joy and peace that came into our lives and family. You talk about a life-style change - it really happens! From that point on we wrapped our lives in the Word, church and ministry to others. Life had new meaning. As Paul Harvey says, "the rest of the story is"...we have served God ever since. Would you believe...for over 54 years. Each day gets sweeter. God is so good! So anyway, it was a special thrill and opportunity to be able to thank Dorothy face to face for her part in bringing us to Christ. My cousins, Gary and Janet Stubenrauch are so dear to us and have been such a blessing to us each time we've come to Florida to minister.

Here's a little comedy for your day: Gary and Janet were gone for a week and asked us to house sit and feed their pet cats. We gladly obliged. They only gave us two instructions: Feed the cats and secondly, please don't let the cats go into the formal dining and livingroom as they will tear around and possibly break something. Easy enough...so we thought. They have a louvered, folding door that shuts with a hook just strong enough to keep the cats out. We trouble makers!thought that was okay, but I think those two beautiful cats thought, "Good the bosses are gone, we'll outwit Larry and Gloria in no time." We'd be gone a few hours and come back to see the folding door open and there in the "off-limits" room sat the two cats staring at us with their dancing blue eyes and waving their tails up in the air as if to say, "Aha!...just try to catch us!" The challenge was on. Larry and I would try to herd those cats out of the livingroom and, needless to say, they gave us our daily exercise program. I got so tickled watching Larry go on the cat hunt. Larry finally won and carried them out one by one and locking the door behind him. This little game went on for 3 days, so on the fourth day we decided enough of this game. I took their heavy antique grand piano stool and braced it up against the side of the door so they couldn't get through. To our surprise...we came back a few minutes later to find out that they must have both given it a body slam hard enough that it pushed the piano stool and door open just enough to sneak through again! What a week of cat games! Actually, Larry enjoyed the challenge. When my cousins came back home I asked them, "What do you feed those cats?" She said, "Good, healthy cat food." I readily agreed and told her, "I think I need to start eating that cat food. Whatever they are eating to make them that strong...I need it!" She just chuckled.

Another great perk about staying at my cousins is that their home is surrounded on three sides by orange trees and orange groves. When you walk out of the house the fragrance of those oranges and blossoms nearly takes your breath away. It is so sweet and inviting. By the way, Larry has picked his favorite navel orange tree and has literally stripped it since he's been here. Speaking of fragrance, it reminds me of the scripture in 2 Corinthians 2:14-16, "Now thanks be to God who always leads us in triumph in Christ, and through us diffuses the fragrance of His knowledge in every place. For we are to God the fragrance of Christ among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing. To the one we are the aroma of death leading to death and to the other the aroma of life leading to life. And who is sufficient for these things?" It is my prayer that my life will carry such a sweet fragrance of Christ that whomever I come in contact with will be drawn to Him.

This weekend we are going to minister in Cocoa Beach. We appreciate your prayers for another wonderful altar call. Have another great week and be blessed!

Greetings from central Florida! What a whirlwind week...and I mean that in more ways than one. On Thursday night, as you probably know, deadly tornadoes ripped through central Florida killing 20 people and causing over $70 million dollars worth of damage. We were about 40-50 miles from its path. Larry and I adhered the weather warnings and were intently watching its predicted path. At about 1:10 a.m. the television alert system went off ...and needless to say I was a bit scared until it was over. Our hearts and prayers go out to the thousands of people who lost everything they owned. One simply cannot comprehend losing everything!

Larry and I want to thank the many who called and e-mailed asking if we were okay. It's so wonderful to have friends who care!

Last Sunday we drove to Durant, FL to minister. On the way, we drove through Plant City, FL-which is known for its delicious strawberries and Strawberry Festival. We drove past miles and miles of strawberry fields. Unfortunately, being rushed for time, we couldn't stop to buy some. Yes, I whimpered a bit, but not as much as Larry when he saw the big signs advertising, "Fresh Strawberry Malts and Strawberry Shortcake." Our only consolation is that we will probably be going back through Plant City in the next month. Good news is, Larry will have a treat to look forward too! Ha! (As if our bodies need another treat!) We motored on to Durant and were graciously greeted by Pastor Larry Pastor Larry Powell and his wife, JoyPowell. Upon arrival he said, "My wife, Joy, and I remember you from way-y-y-y- back." I questioned, "And just-t-t-how far back?" He smiled and said, "In the late 60's and early 70's in Panama City, FL." I gulped, "Well, the good news is we are still alive and going." He just chuckled. On Sunday morning we were greeted by an exuberant and loving congregation. They were action packed, enthusiastic and ready to "have church". And that we did! When I asked how many had ever been in one of our services in the past about 40 raised their hands. There were several snow birds from all over the mid-west who had attended our family rallies somewhere, at sometime.

One visiting couple, Jim and Liz Olson, from Cannon Falls, MN, who are involved with Convoy of Hope and the M.A.P.S. RV ministry, drove over 500 miles to attend our a.m. service. They have a beautiful motor-home that they Jim and Liz Olsontraveled in. They had called us earlier and asked for directions and where they could park their rig. Larry assured them, "Hey don't worry about that. There's a huge parking area as you turn into the church parking lot. Pull into the empty lot, it's not paved, but you'll have lots of room to park." They took our "good advice" and drove into the vacant lot and were surprised as the duals were sinking into the sand. We did not know it was soft sand. Good thing they were really blessed by the morning service before they went out to tackle getting it out! The harder Jim tried the deeper it sank into the sand. Larry and another man from the church chained our suburban and another big pick-up to the motor-home and pulled at the same time. With God's favor and mercy they got it out. I was so shook and felt so badly that I Soft sand and a few hard pulls!went into the church and prayed. I was afraid the rigs would pull the back bumper off their beautiful motor-home. I heard a big roar of engines as they huffed and puffed, and pulled and tugged and thank the Lord, they got it out without any damage. I can't help but think that God was looking down at us and saying, "You dummies...I got you out of this one...just don't let it happen again!" Liz and Jim were so relieved, as we all were, and they were so kind through the whole ordeal.

This episode reminds me of the time we were driving through a little bitty spot in the road, Willacoochie, GA...yes, honest, that's the real name. We had missed our road sign so we were going to take a side street when we saw a huge, empty parking lot. Larry said, "There's a big lot to turn this rig around in." With that he headed down the gravel street. Out of nowhere a man came running down the street screaming and shaking his fist at us. The twisted look on that man's face scared me. He approached the front door of our bus and I jumped up and sat on the couch behind Larry and said, "That man is furious or crazy. I'm not going to open that door to face him." Cautiously, Larry opened the door a tiny bit to hear what the man was screaming. He yelled, "Go back, go back. You can't drive in there...there's a huge sink hole on that lot and you'll fall in it." Larry sank into the seat and sighed with relief. What we thought was an angry man was actually a concerned man who was warning us of impending danger. God had him there at the right time. I shudder to think of what could have happened had that man not been there. We would probably still be there trying to hoist a 40-foot, 20 thousand pound coach out of that sink hole. Ha!

I guess Larry and I are kind of like that man....we travel 11 months out of the Altar call at Pleasant Grove A/G in Durant, FLyear warning people of spiritual destruction and then give them hope through a simple gospel message. As you can see, and as we've seen in the altar calls at our services...people will respond if given the opportunity. Well, I gotta run. Have a great week!

Just one month ago today I was packing away Christmas decorations and starting to pack for our tour. My mother used to tell me, "Missy, the older you get...the more quickly it seems time flies by." Pastor Gipson, his wife and grandchildrenWe had a wonderful weekend of ministry in Winter Haven, FL. Winter Haven is about 30 miles south of Orlando. We ministered at New Hope Church two years ago with Pastor and Mrs. Dennis Gipson. It was so good to be back and to see that their church continues to grow. When Pastor Gipson introduced us he said, "This is Larry & Gloria's fourth trip here and every time they come people get saved. That's what I like about their ministry and that's what this church is all about...people coming to Christ." Later he added, "Larry and Gloria's ministry gets betterAltar call at New Hope Assembly in Winter Haven, FL each time they come." That comment touched our hearts. Speaking of touching our hearts, there were several precious decisions for Christ. Among them was a sharp looking, young married couple who I would guess to be in their late 20's. They made first time decisions for Christ. The church congregation was thrilled!

We also had some special friends visit on Sunday... Evangelists Paul and Esther Murray from South Bend, IN. Larry and Paul did a missions trip together to Latvia last July and had a wonderful time of ministry. Paul and EPaul and Esther Murraysther said, "It was so good being able to see our friends, Larry and Gloria again. The service was wonderful. We really enjoyed the music, time of ministry, and Gloria's personal testimony. We were especially thrilled with the altar call." Duane and Grace Hoven from Ada, MN were also in attendance. They have been Duane and Grace Hovenfriends and partners of our ministry for over 20 years. Their daughter, Jennie traveled with us on the road and tutored our son, Donovan. Jennie was a great teacher and worker and was such a blessing to us and our ministry. Grace Hoven commented, "It was so good to see Larry and Gloria at New Hope Church in Winter Haven. We love their music and ministry. Larry and Gloria are like family to us." It's always great seeing friends and partners in our services as we criss-cross the United States and Canada.

Brrrr...I saw on the morning news it was negative 17 below wind-chill at Minneapolis, MN. As Larry would say, "It's so cold outside you have to put jumper cables on the rabbits to get them started"...groan... Speaking of news, it seems it's hard to find good news on any broadcast anymore. Last Sunday I was speaking to the Children's pastor and was encouraging him about the importance of his great mission field to reach the children at a young age. He shared the statistics, which I've heard before, that out of all the children who grow up in Sunday School, attend Youth, church, and then go on to college...7 out of 10 will not attend church after they get out of college. That statistic stabbed deeply into my heart. Where are we losing them? How are we losing them? What can we do about it? I'm deeply concerned as I don't want my children or grandchildren to be one of the seven who fall away. Our grandson, Dante is 14 years old and in 8th grade. A few days ago he and I were having a conversation and I asked him what are some of the toughest struggles he faces at his age. He promptly answered, "Living for God. Grandma, it's really hard." He hesitated and said, "It's easy when you go Bible camp...it seems like most everyone is there to get closer to God, the environment is good, but Grandma it's harder when you get back to the real world." I agreed. I pondered for quite awhile over what he said and the statistics. Could it be that we aren't putting as much emphasis on time and prayer, reading the word, and seeking God like they do at camp...seeking God's will for their lives. I don't know. Sometimes I feel we get so caught-up in entertaining the youth that maybe, like Dante said, they really are hungry and are seeking for time at the altar. I agree we need the balance, but they sure need all the input of God they can get. The sad and fearful thing about this generation is that they feel they have to be entertained all the time, whether it's TV, video games, movies or other forms of entertainment. They don't even know what Psalm 14:6 means when it says, "Be still and know that I am God."

Well, anyway I do know we as parents and grandparents have a big job ahead of us to pray, guide and lead them spiritually. It's not going to be an easy road, but if they are going to make it spiritually, a lot of responsibility lies with us. God help us! Well, I must go. Have a wonderful week and we will connect with you again soon.

POEM OF THE WEEK

Only One Childhood

I stopped to watch my little girl
busy playing in her room.
In one hand was a plastic phone;
in the other a toy broom.

I listened as she was speaking
to her make believe little friend
and I'll never forget the words she said,
even though it was pretend.

She said "Suzie's in the corner
cuz she's not been very good.
She didn't listen to a word I said
or do the things she should."

In the corner I saw her baby doll
all dressed in lace and pink.
It was obvious she'd been put there
to sit alone and think.

My daughter continued her "conversation,"
as I sat down on the floor.
She said, "I'm all fed up I just don't know
what to do with her anymore.

She whines whenever I have to work
and wants to play games, too;
and never lets me do the things
that I just have to do.

She tries to help me with the dishes,
but her arms just cannot reach
and she doesn't know how to fold the towels
and I don't have time to teach.

I have a lot of work to do
and a big house to keep clean.
I don't have time to sit and play--
don't you know what I mean?"

And that day I thought a lot about
making some changes in my life;
as I listened to her innocent words
that cut me like a knife.

I hadn't been paying enough attention
to what I hold most dear.
I'd been caught up in responsibilities
that increased throughout the year.

But now my attitude has changed
because, in my heart, I realize
I've seen the world in a different light
through my little darling's eyes.

So, let the cobwebs have the corners
and the dust bunnies rule the floor,
I'm not going to worry about
keeping up with them any more.

I'm going to fill the house with memories
of a child and her mother
for God grants us only ONE childhood,
and we will never get another.

Hello! What a beautiful, warm and sunshiny Florida day! It's a perfect 81 degrees. Hello!  What a beautiful, warm and sunshiny Florida day!  It's a perfect 81 degrees.  As I snuggled into a chair to watch the evening news, the weather came on showing blue, cold weather everywhere in the US except…right here in Florida.  I said, "Praise the Lord; we are in the right place at the right time!"  I called my mother in Arizona and she informed me that they had a dusting of snow in the Phoenix and Scottsdale area.  Last week they even had some freezing rain.  Wouldn't you agree that the weather patterns are definitely changing?  Our future son-in-law, William Birt, is an accountant and travels all the time.  He was in Oklahoma City, Dallas, and St. Louis when each of those ice storms hit.  He said it was defiantly not fun!  I think he has seen enough winter weather for this year.

Larry is still busy scheduling the rest of our 2007 ministry tour.  Most of it is done; we have a lot of exciting events coming up this year.  I'll tell you about them in the coming weeks.  A couple days ago, Larry and I motored over to Tampa, Florida to attend the Annual RV Expo.  We expected to see 200-300 Larry is literally looking over the coaches- I didn't like him up on the ladder!rigs - which would include motor homes, fifth wheels, campers and coaches - and to my total amazement there were not hundreds there, but near 3,000 literally crowded into the Florida fairgrounds.  We had allotted 3 hours to view them…we would've needed a month to get through all of them.  Our coach/motor home is 16 years old and has seen better days, which were a long time ago!  Larry is working more on it and under it than driving in it now.  It's been a great rig, but it's time to change before it shuts down on us.  In order to find parts for it, we almost have to go back to the Flintstone's era to get them- ha!  Anyway, we walked through RVs priced from 70,000 to over 3 million dollars.  Inside this one gigantic arena, a luxurious coach company was displaying its conversion "built in" coaches.  Almost all of the coaches were sold during this weeklong event.  I noticed one coach that said, "SOLD", but they let me walk in to take a peek.  Everything was done with a gold accent: gold flecked marble floors, gold leather on the dashboard and steering wheel... it had every glitz and glitter design that could possible be in it.  It looked like a traveling casino with all its extravagant twinkle lights and interior design!  I looked at the sale price and it was 1 million 600,058 (plus taxes and closing costs).  All of that was for a 45-foot long coach!  Needless to say, we didn't get it- ha!  I asked the salesman who could possibly afford that.  He told me it was a man from Canada who owns a chain of hotels.  You definitely have to own a lot of something to be able to buy a coach like that.

Many people work hard down here to earn their mansions and luxuries to enjoy.  Larry and I are working hard down here, but the difference is we are experiencing the greatest joy helping bring people into relationship with Jesus Christ.  Those precious souls are worth more than all of those coaches and the millions of dollars spent for them.  In Proverbs 11:30, the Bible says, "He that winneth souls is wise."  Anyone who is wise usually wins- right?  Well, Larry and I have tried to be as wise as we can and with God's help we've seen over 80 thousand decisions for Christ in our ministry through the years. Now that's real gold!

what a treat to get fresh fruit and veggies!Coming back from the RV Expo we spotted a fresh fruit and vegetable stand.  It was huge!  Larry and I went crazy buying fresh fruit such as oranges, tangerines, grapes, grapefruit, and of course, Florida's infamous, huge, red juicy strawberries.  What a treat! The prices were great compared to the grocery prices.  Larry and I are anxious to minister this weekend at Winter Haven, FL, which is about 45 miles southwest of Orlando.  We are praying that God will give us a great harvest of souls.  Well, again I have to run, but have a wonderful week and we'll talk to you next week!

Something to Think About

Three monkeys dining in a coconut tree

Were discussing something they thought shouldn't be.

Said one to the other:

"Now listen you two, here's something that cannot be true,

that humans descended from our noble race!

Why, it's shock; a terrible disgrace!

Whoever heard of a monkey deserting his wife;

Or leaving a baby and ruining its life?"

"I've never known a monkey so selfish to be

As to build a fence around a coconut tree

So that other monkeys couldn't even get a taste,

While bushes of coconuts are going to waste."

"And here's another thing we monkeys won't do

Carouse, make trouble, and disgrace our lives,

Then swing on home and beat up our wives."

"Yes, those humans think it's great to fuss and cuss;

They've descended from something, but it can't be us!"

Hello from sunny Florida!  I am so thankful to be in a warm climate.  A couple days ago, I talked to friends in Fargo, ND and they told us it was 17 degrees below zero- that was without the wind chill- ouch!  That would make your breath freeze in midair-ha!

This week and next, are heavy administrative weeks for us.  Larry is doing booking, and we're both working on sermon preparations.  We are trying to keep our minds to the grindstone.  I have been hoping to take off a couple days this week to relax, but it hasn't happened yet.  Last Sunday, we had the pleasure and rare opportunity to visit a church, and just sit and drink in the presence of God.  We went through the Orlando phonebook

looking for a good church to attend and found Faith Assembly in Orlando, FL.  Larry had preached there a few years ago when I was speaking at a Florida Women's Conference.  As we were driving the 30 miles across the city, I told Larry, "I am so spiritually hungry and so ready to be fed."  Praise the Lord, the pastor had such a wonderful message, and we left feeling so refreshed.  It was just what we needed.

Speaking of something else, Larry and I desperately need…that would be physical exercise.  Those jam-packed, cookie snatchin', food snakin' Christmas holidays were too good to our waistlines!  So again, we are getting back into our walking regimen.  I found it's much easier to take a mile or two walk in 70-degree weather, versus 20 below wind chill on snow and ice packed streets.  Wouldn't you agree?  That sure took a lot to figure that out, didn't it- ha!  Last night we went out for a walk around the area we're staying in.  About a quarter mile into our walk, we noticed a sheriff's car parked on the median with its bright blue bubble lights flashing.  We walked another block, and spotted another sheriff's car with flashing lights on.  Soon there was a helicopter hovering above us, as well.  In the next few minutes, at least 20 police cars assembled.  They had blocked off several blocks in front of us and behind us.  It was about 9:00 pm, and we were smack-dab in the middle of all of this.  We thought we'd briskly out walk all the commotion, but it only got worse.  At first Larry and I were curious, then we were really concerned and sensed something serious must be going on for this fleet of helicopters and cars to be all over the place.  Evidently, they were looking for someone or several people very close to where we were taking our walk, and we were encamped within the whole ordeal.  Larry walked up to a police car and said, "I guess we picked the wrong night and the wrong place for a walk."  Readily the police officer replied, "Yes, unfortunately, you have picked the wrong place to walk."  He asked where we were coming from and where we were going, so we told him.  Then, he urged us to get out of the area as quickly as we could because it wasn't safe.  It didn't take us long to obey his command!  We scurried down the street back to where we were staying.  Police cars and helicopters were in full swing, and so were we- ha!  I sighed a relief and told myself, "No more after dark walks."  We weren't sure why there was a commotion, but we were happy to arrive back safely.  As we rushed down the road during this episode, my imagination was going wild, "What if these people they are looking for jump out of the bushes with a gun or knife and try to overtake us?!"  That's a woman's imagination!  I prayed the blood of Jesus over us and recited the verse, "And He shall give the angels charge over thee, and keep thee in all thy ways." (Psalm 91:11)  Aren't we blessed to be able to call on the name of Jesus?  Growing up in my family with my 10 brothers, mom would always tell us, "If you are in danger, deathly sick or scared, just speak the name of Jesus and plead His blood over you."  That's great advice, and I'm sure I've done that literally thousands of times in my life.  Isn't it great that God is always there; He's never too distant or too busy to answer our calls for help.

May you have a wonderful week, knowing you are loved by God and us!

The Johnsons had been teaching their 3-year-old daughter, Caitlin, the Lord's Prayer for several evenings at bedtime.  She would repeat the lines after her Mom and Dad.  One night, she finally decided to go solo.  Her father listened with pride as she carefully enunciated each word right up to the end of the prayer: "Lead us not into temptation," she prayed, " but deliver us from e-mail."

Three year old, Reece prayed, "Our Father, who does art in Heaven, Harold is His name. Amen."

Greetings from Florida!

Can it really be January 10th already? I've been so busy that I've actually lost track of time! I just asked Larry, "Honey, what date is it?" He looked up from his computer and said, "It's January 10th." In disbelief I uttered, "It couldn't be." He responded, "Well, it is." If the rest of this month goes as quickly as this first half, January will soon be just a memory!

If the rest of this month goes as quickly as this first half, January will soon be just a memory!

Gloria working on the update for the On the Road webpageGetting ready to leave on this 4 month tour has literally eaten up any spare time that I might have hoped for. Larry and I diligently sorted through boxes of office mail and papers, and tried to get caught up on some projects that our Sisseton, SD office needed before we embarked on this tour.  In the thick of this, Larry was fighting a horrendous tooth ache- and yes, it was his "Swedish sweet tooth"- Ha!  We had to wait 2 weeks to get into a dentist and by then the tooth was abscessed. The dentist told us he'd have to pull the tooth in order to get rid of the infection. Larry groaned and pleaded, "Isn't there another option?"  But, of course, the answer was no.  A bit disappointed- or should I say a lot- he immediately went through with the extraction of his back molar.  He came out looking like he had just been beaten up. Then the swelling began!  A couple days later when he was feeling better, I asked him if he was hiding walnuts in his cheeks.  He just grinned, which made him look even more comical.  The hardest part of the whole process was that he couldn't eat his treats for a few days. Poor Larry!

After the tooth dilemma was taken care of, we began to pack for the tour.  What a predicament trying to pack all of our personal clothes, computer, and office supplies that we'll need for 4 months into two 50 pound suitcases!  We had planned to leave Sisseton last Saturday and drive to Minneapolis, MN to spend a day with daughter, LaDawn, and the grandkids.  Our plans changed when we had a last minute funeral to attend, so we didn't get out until Sunday night.  Larry called to confirm our Tuesday airline departure on Monday morning.  I heard him say, "Oh no…boy, am I ever glad I called tonight instead of tomorrow morning."  He turned to me and announced, "Honey, we're not leaving tomorrow afternoon."  My heart sunk!  I thought, "Oh no, they messed up our flight schedule!  Now when will we get out of Minneapolis?"  Larry looked at me and continued, "They changed our flight from tomorrow afternoon at 3:30, to tomorrow morning at 9:00.  We need to be at the airport at 7 am."  Boy, we were both thankful we had called that night, rather than in the morning, or we would've missed our flight!  We rushed around and got our suitcases ready again.  Then we weighed them, just holding our breath that we were under the 50 pound limit. Tuesday morning, LaDawn brought us out toWow, in 3 hours we went from snow to palm trees! the airport.  Light snow was falling and the Minnesota temperatures were brisk, only reaching about 12 degrees.  Once we were there, we quickly unloaded and stepped into the ticket line.  Larry grunted as he lifted the big suitcase on the scale.  The female ticket agent watched the scale, looked over her glasses, and chuckled, "Close…49.35 pounds!"  I let out a big sigh of relief.  I was wondering if I was going to have to take clothes out of the suitcase and go for the layered look just to get everything with us- Ha!

Wow, in 3 hours we went from snow to palm trees! We had a smooth flight to Orlando, FL despite the imprint of a small foot on the lower part of my back from a rambunctious 5 year old boy that was sitting behind me.  He kicked the back of my airline seat for the entire 1500 miles.  Oh well, I'm fine now!  On arrival to Orlando, it was nearly 70 degrees.  We took in the beautiful sunshine, baby blue skies and palm tree branches waving in the light breeze.  Yes!  I'm so happy God called us to Florida to minister, how sweet it is!

While we were waiting for our transportation, we were seated next to a huge circular fish aquarium.  For the next hour or so I watched this one fish swim around and around the tank in circles, going as fast as his fins would take him.  It probably thought it had swum a great distance, but it really was just swimming in circles.  I'm sure it was totally oblivious that it wasn't going anywhere.  I thought of how people get caught up in life, just like that fish…rushing, pushing, but not going anywhere, just going in circles.  I thought of what I read years ago, "Christians often confuse business and activities with a personal relationship with God.  They think that if they are busy and on the run, that's what God wants."  But Psalm 46:10 says, "Be still and know that I am God."  Often times we cannot hear the voice of God due to the craziness of life and its demands.  I am preaching to myself on this one.  Almost everything I do is for ministry.  Sometimes, I remind myself of busy Martha in Luke 10, always going and doing rather than being a "Mary".  In Luke 10:41-42, Jesus scolded, or reminded Martha, "You are busy and troubled about many things, but one thing is needful, and Mary hath chosen the good part, (time with Jesus) which will not be taken from her."  Don't we all desperately need that?  There are times I feel like that fish, swimming frantically, around and around, and going nowhere spiritually.  In the beginning of this New Year, I admit I need to slow down and spend more quiet time in His presence.  That's what really matters.  How about you?  Have a great week!

Gloria

Greetings from "Snow" Dakota!  We had a brown Christmas this year which doesn't happen very often, but it was nice not having to fight snow, ice and sleet.  Larry and his snowball! Then, December 28th winter arrived!  I told Larry, "I know why it snowed.  It's because I took down my tree and decorations!"  We woke up to a winter wonderland after receiving the aftermath of the big Denver storm.  Like kids, Larry and I couldn't wait to get outside.  It was about 40 degrees and I suggested taking some Making my snowball!photos.  I offered to take his picture first.  After I took a nice one of him and was preparing to snap another one, I saw a mischievous grin form on his face.  Larry had started to make a snowball and I just knew it was for me…not a gift…but, by the gleam in his eye I knew I was going to be the target.  Sure enough!  I said, "Okay, time to get even!"  As I was molding my masterpiece snowball Larry took my picture.  As you can see, a short snowball fight was inevitable.  Isn't life fun?  That "snow time" just made our day and gave us another spark to keep that first love alive.

On December 29th the snow turned into rain, and then to freezing rain.  I could see the limbs on the trees doubling in diameter from the ice collecting on the branches.  Oooh, I do not like ice!

The ice on the trees...slightly reminiscent of last year....

Larry and I will be flying out of Minneapolis, MN on January 9th to Orlando, Florida, where we will pick up our coach.  We look forward to another great year of soul-winning.  Philippians 3:13 says, "But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before me."  We agree with Paul to reach forward to what lies ahead.  We have so many wonderful opportunities for Christ with many rallies, seminars, camp meetings, and conventions for 2007.  We are anxious to see what God is going to do in the lives of people.  We will, however, look back and rejoice over the hundreds who made decisions for Christ.  That is the encouragement that keeps us pushing on.

I would like to encourage you to live in the NOW as that's all you have.  Don't dwell on the pain of the past.  Have a burial service and bury all thoughts of unkindness and bitterness, your dislikes and resentments, your sense of failure and disappointments in others or yourself, and your gloom and despondency…let's leave them all buried and go forth to a new and risen life.  God will bless you in ways you never even thought attainable.

Remember, God holds 2007 in His hands, so snuggle up close to Him and hold tight to His arm.  He will guide you one day at a time!

Happy New Year!

Gloria

POEM OF THE WEEK

If in the past year you've experienced heart break, rejection, or offense, read this and heed to it.

Forget It

If you ain't been treated right

Forget it.

Don't go looking for a fight,

Forget it.

There's no need to bear a grudge,

'Twill your happiness besmudge,

Anyway, you ain't the judge,

Forget it!

So you've been misunderstood?

Forget it.

You did the best you could?

Forget it.

There's no need to pout and whine,

Sit around all day and pine.

Cheer up, neighbor, sing and shine.

Forget it.

So somebody slandered you?

Forget it.

Just make sure it wasn't true

Then forget it.

Needless grief will mar your life

If you let it.

No use nagging at your wife.

Forget it!

There's no need to be depressed

Though you've gone through many a test

And you feel that you're oppressed

And by many cares possessed.

Tell the Lord, He knows what's best.

If all your wrongs confessed

And you'll follow His behest

Then your soul will be so blessed

And you'll find such perfect rest

Like a birdie in it's nest,

There's no need to be depressed…

Forget it!

            HOUSEHOLD HINT OF THE WEEK

Icy outside? When it's icy outside and you have to take a person in a wheelchair somewhere, it's always a problem to get them from the car in the wheelchair without slipping.  Take a rubber-backed rug along, and spread on the ice for them to step on from car to chair.

Greetings...what an exciting Christmas we had! I hardly know where to begin. On December 15th, our daughter, LaShawn, who lives in Nashville, Tennessee, flew into Minneapolis and drove home to Sisseton, along with her boyfriend, Liam Birt. Liam is originally from Toronto, Canada, and now resides in Nashville, Tennessee. They have been dating for about three years. It was so much fun having them with us for four days. Sunday night, while visiting in the living room, Liam asked our blessing and permission to marry LaShawn. We were ecstatic to say the least and of course, granted his request. So...we will be having a wedding coming up in 2007...

December 27, 2006

Greetings...what an exciting Christmas we had! I hardly know where to begin. On December 15th, our daughter, LaShawn, who lives in Nashville, Tennessee, flew LaShawn and Liaminto Minneapolis and drove home to Sisseton, along with her boyfriend, Liam Birt. So...we will be having a wedding coming up in 2007. They are currently working on scheduling a wedding date. We are so happy for both of them. Liam is a special man and has won the hearts of all our family.

LaDawn with Dante' and MyannaWell, that news sent the remaining Christmas celebrations into motion. We were anxiously awaiting the arrival of the rest of our family. LaDawn, Dante' and Myanna were scheduled to come home on the 23rd. This year, we were disappointed that our son, Donovan, who also lives in Nashville, wouldn't be able to make it home. I tried really hard not to let that bother me realizing that with schedules, work and distance, family get-togethers don't always happen the way Dad and Mom want them to. I had psyched myself to stay upbeat, but on the afternoon of December 23rd, while we were waiting for LaDawn and the kids to drive in, a deep pain arose in my heart as I so desired our whole family to be together.

Shortly before arriving, LaDawn called and reported she was about two miles away. My emotions fluttered with anticipation to see LaDawn and our two grandchildren. We watched for her car to pull into our driveway and when it did, LaShawn, Larry and I ran out to the car to greet them with hugs. We then scurried I was ecstatic to have Donovan home for Christmas!back into the house. Once all of the exhilaration from their arrival died down, LaDawn asked if we could help her carry in some gifts from the back seat of the car right away so, we hastened back outside. When Larry opened the back door of her car, Donovan jumped out from his hiding place under a blanket. Larry squealed and hollered, and I didn't know what was going on at this point. When I peered in and saw Donovan, I just stood there stunned for a few seconds literally in disbelief. I then wrapped my arms around his neck, hugged him and just held him. Needless to say, tears of joy were trickling down my cheeks. Larry hollered out with a big grin on his face, "This is the best Christmas gift I could ever get-to have my whole family home for Christmas!" At that point we were all ambulant We were on kitchen duty most of the weekend!!! That meant sampling goodies too!with excitement.

We spent the next three days talking, laughing,We all enjoyed the times of laughter and fun! eating, snacking, reminiscing of days gone by, swapping sibling stories, and playing games. It was such a special time, words just cannot fully express! The vacation time together went only too fast but all the memories will last a lifetime.

The entire family home for Christmas---a wonderful Christmas gift for us!

On December 25th, LaDawn and Dante' made their way back to Minneapolis but not before I could measure them on the infamous Lundstrom bathroom closet door. It records their height since they were toddlers. It contains our children's measurements and our grandchildren's. The door may look ugly to others, but to us, it represents many milestones. After our measuring extravaganza, we discovered that both Dante' and Myanna had grown over 3 ½ inches this past year.

On December 26th, LaShawn and Donovan took Myanna to Minneapolis to drop her off. They will eventually go on to Nashville. It was sure difficult to say goodbye. We anticipated those few action-packed days all year and now they are a part of our histMyanna's new doll she got for Christmasory.

Today the house is quiet.. There are no giggles and no kids running around the house. What remains are remnants of Christmas wrappings, a few leftovers from Christmas dinner, a smattering of Christmas goodies...and oh yes, an aching heart. I already miss the children and grandchildren as I savor the precious times we shared. From this moment, we will begin looking forward to next Christmas.

Larry and I received so many beautiful Christmas cards, letters and photos. It was fun to catch up on the lives and events of so many of our friends and family. Isn't it wonderful that at this time of year, people take time to connect or reconnect? We all need that.

Now that Christmas is over, people will soon be taking down the tree, the twinkling lights, and Christmas decorations packing them away for another year. With all of the packing away, let's be careful not to pack away the Spirit of Christmas which should be evident in our lives every day of the year. Let's be careful not to pack away the Spirit of giving, forgiveness and love. Ephesians 4 :32 (NIV) says, "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ, God forgave you." Most importantly, let's not pack away the Babe in the manger...Jesus, our Lord and Savior. Keep Him alive and let Him shine through us unto others we will come in contact with in 2007.

We will talk more next year!

Gloria

POEM OF THE WEEK

The Day After Christmas

'Twas the day after Christmas, and all through the house,

Every creature was hurting, even the mouse.

The toys were all broken, their batteries dead,

Santa passed out with some ice on his head.

Wrapping and ribbons just covered the floor, while

Upstairs the family continued to snore.

And I in my t-shirt, new Reeboks and jeans,

Went into the kitchen and started to clean.

When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,

I sprang from the sink to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash,

Tore open the curtains and threw up the sash.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a little white truck, with an oversized mirror.

The driver was smiling, so lively and grand;

The patch on his jacket said, "U. S. Postman."

With a handful of bills, he grinned like a fox

Then quickly he stuffed them into our mailbox.

Bill after bill after bill they still came.

Whistling and shouting he called them by name:

"Now Dillards, now Target, now Penney's and Sears

Here's Macy's, and Kohl's and Mervyn's-all here!

To the tip or your limit, every store, every mall,

Now charge away, charge away, charge away all!"

He sprang to his truck and he drove down the road,

Driving much faster with just half a load.

Then I heard him exclaim with great holiday cheer,

"Enjoy what you got-you'll be paying all year!"

            HOUSEHOLD HINT OF THE WEEK

Each year at Christmas, many buy Christmas wreathes and after Christmas they discard them. Don't! After the holidays, take them down, hang them in a dark room and on a nice day, take them to the garage, lay them on paper and remove the ribbons. Cover the cones or other decorations with some plastic and spray the wreath with green enamel household paint. You will be able to use that wreath for several years.
