The wedding! Yes, the wedding...it was so beautiful. What a joyous time we had. We looked forward to it for so long and it came and went by only too quickly. We tried to savor each moment and event as it happened.

Larry and I flew from Minneapolis to Nashville on Tuesday, Dec 6th at 3:30pm and our daughter LaDawn and her children, Dante and Myanna, flew out at 6:30pm the same evening. LaShawn and Liam met us at the Nashville airport. Our son Donovan picked up LaDawn and the kids later. From the moment the airplane landed...the excitement and the action began. Friday was spent with LaShawn and her friend, Trish, finalizing wedding arrangements. On Friday night, Liam and LaShawn catered a BBQ dinner for both of their families. It was the first time we met Liam's family - and what a sweet family they are. On Saturday, we all went down to the Hermitage Hotel, where the wedding was to be held, for the wedding rehearsal. Following the rehearsal was a Groom's dinner at a beautiful Italian restaurant.

The clock seemed to wait for no one...and before we knew it, we were on our way back to the hotel on Sunday morning for the wedding.

Before the wedding I was with LaShawn, the bridesmaids, and her personal attendants, Trish and Anita, in a hotel room. When LaShawn was putting on her wedding dress...it hit me, "My little girl (they will always be little girls to me) is REALLY getting married." I stood mesmerized and in awe of the beautiful bride that stood before me.

In a few short minutes, the ceremony began. Our son Donovan walked me up first and then Liam's father was ushered down to the sound of the bagpipes being played. Liam's family is from Irish decent. The bridesmaids and Myanna walked down to meet the groomsmen.

The ceremony began. Larry had the honor of conducting the wedding message, vows and unity candle. I had the sheer delight of giving comments to the Bride and Groom and to officially welcome Liam into our family and hearts. Gloria and Greg Long

Greg Long, a friend of LaShawn and our family, sang the Lord's Prayer. That was so beautiful and special. Then...BOOM...they were pronounced husband and wife! The cake cutting and reception followed. Liam and LaShawnEverything was just so beautiful and memorable. We are so happy to have a son-in-law and we dearly love him.

We had hoped to have a larger variety of photos...but we were all in the wedding so we couldn't take them! And the photographer said it would take 4-6 weeks before they could get the proofs and photos done.

What a joyous occasion it was...now we're in the midst of the biggest occasion EVER...Christmas! Without the birth of the Christ child, there would not be Christmas. I like what J.D. Packer said, "The Christmas Our familymessage is that there is hope for a ruined humanity- hope of pardon, hope of peace with God, hope of glory- because at the Father's will Jesus Christ became poor, and was born in a stable so that thirty years later He might hang on the cross."

Christmas truly is a night to be remembered because God came to earth in the person, Jesus Christ. His humble birth was the beginning of the mighty work the Father accomplished for mankind-the plan and gift of salvation. How great is that! The gift is free, it is ours if we just ask for it and accept it. All we have to do is confess our sins and, in return, He gives us eternal life if we abide in Him.

This Christmas, amidst all the hustle and bustle of the holidays and all the events, remember...there is no Christmas without Christ!

Merry Christmas to you and your family and a Happy New Year!

Gloria

P.S. The next update will be January 2nd, 2008. Hopefully we will have some photos to share from our family Christmas!

I opened the door to go outside and was greeted by a 3-foot snowdrift that was right up to the door jamb. I had to shovel my way out...it's definitely winter-time in the Midwest!

Larry just arrived home from an exciting six day Christmas In Branson tour. The tour consisted of 44 adventurous passengers. I was supposed to be the 45th passenger but had a "health hiccup" two days before we were scheduled Preparing for the trip!to leave so Larry insisted I stay home and rest up as our daughter's wedding is December 9th, and we didn't want to jeopardize this event we have been anxiously awaiting. Larry and I have hosted tours for over 42 years and this is the first one I missed...so I guess my running record is still okay! HA! I sure hated being left behind however.

Larry and our friends boarded a beautiful charter coach last Wednesday The whole group!morning and headed off. Guests joined us from Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Arizona. For many of them, this was a reunion tour as over 35 of them have gone with us before. After you have gone once, family bonds form and many desire to make it a tradition or annual event.

coffee break! The first stop was at the Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, Missouri, and they then journeyed on to Silver Dollar City in Branson. The next three days were filled with nonstop action and excitement consisting of attending Christmas shows including Baldknobbers, Pierce Arrow, Celebrate America, Daniel O'Donnell, and the tour climaxed with Dino's Christmas Extravaganza, America's premier pianist and showman. Sunday morning, the group metMaking friends! in the hotel for a special church service with an hour of music, testimonies and a message by Larry.  Sunday afternoon, the group motored to Carthage, MO, and visited the world-known Precious Moments Chapel.

Needless to say, the group had a marvelous experience and times of fellowship and fun. The hours traveling back were spent playing games, doing devotions, sharing from the heart and singing. It's a family affair!

It is always a bittersweet time as the tour members disembark from the coach. Many of the guests asked "When and where are we going for the next fellowship tour?"  Three of the couples who went were family so it was a great family event for them to share as well!

Right now, Larry and I are packing and getting ready to board the flight that will take us to Nashville for our daughter, LaShawn, and Liam's wedding. With all the snow piled up here, I asked LaShawn what the forecast was for her wedding day and she chirped, "64 degrees!" I almost got a shouting spell when I heard that as it was below zero here last night. What a joy it will be to have nice moderate weather and not have to fight ice, snow and frigid temps. We are so excited for the wedding! (Can you tell?)

Due to our busy schedule...the wedding and family gatherings in Nashville along with everyone's busy December schedule... we will not have an update the week of December 13th. Lord willing, the week of December 20th, we will post some photos of LaShawn and Liam's wedding so be looking for that special "On the Road" e-mail.

God bless you and have a wonderful December remembering the true meaning of Christmas!  By the way, thank you for those e-mails that we have received referring to keeping Christ in Christmas. We appreciate hearing from you!

HOUSEHOLD HINT OF THE WEEK

Bring out the China...and keep it looking new!

Before you wash, scrape leftover food from your china with a rubber spatula (to prevent scraping) and rinse the dishes soon after the meal is done.

When you are ready to start washing, line the bottom of your sink with a rubber mat or soft dish towel. This will help to prevent dings and scratches from bumping around in the sink. Also, make sure to wash one china dish at a time so they are not hitting against each other.

Wash your china using only mild dish detergents and a soft dish cloth or sponge, not an abrasive pad. China should be washed in warm water. Washing china in hot water creates too great a temperature difference and can cause your dishes to crack or break. Slide china into the water on its side to more evenly distribute the heat through the dish. Washing china with a gold or precious metal trim in hot water is especially taboo; you will wash and flake away the edging.

Also, avoid rubbing dish detergents directly onto the metals.

To prevent coffee and tea from staining fine china cups, wash the cups soon after use in a solution that is one part hydrogen peroxide, three parts water, with just a drop of clear household ammonia. Rinse the dishes with warm, clear water.

If your china cups are already plagued by unsightly stains, you have a few cleaning options. Sprinkle a soft cloth with baking soda or salt and gently rub the stains away. A damp sponge sprinkled with cream of tartar should do the trick as well.

Gray marks on china left by cutting and scraping silverware can be rubbed away with a soft cloth dabbed with a little toothpaste.

Rub gently with the cloth to remove the gray marks.

Greetings from frigid South Dakota! Brrr...what a cold day. The mercury dropped to 11 below mercury last night! Through the years I've joked, "The older I get, the thinner my skin gets"...now I'm convinced that is true. I now know why people at a certain age head South when the cold weather arrives. They truly are smart- HA!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving. We drove to Minneapolis to see our daughter LaDawn, and grandchildren, Dante and Myanna. Thanksgiving Day we were all invited over to Lowell and Connie Lundstrom's home, along with Thanksgiving Day spent with Lowell and Connie!several cousins and other family members and friends. Of course, Connie had a delicious turkey and ham dinner with all the trimmings...and all the calories! That reminds me of a cartoon I saw a few days ago...Grandma is standing in the kitchen with her apron on preparing dishes for the big Thanksgiving meal and she says, "I love Thanksgiving, all the relatives come over-- we have four generations getting indigestion together." How true. Someone else said, "Thanksgiving is the home version of the 'all-you-can-eat buffet'." With Christmas coming up quickly, I'm sure it will be another repeat of that "all-you-can-eat buffet".

The "cousins" enjoying being together. The Friday after Thanksgiving, the Christmas fun- or should I call it frenzy- shopping began. In Minneapolis, a few of the stores opened at 1 am Friday morning. Our daughter LaDawn had to be at work at 4 am, so she had to get up at 2:30 am to get ready to go. Needless to say that was an early morning start!

According to the news clips on TV and radio, there are thousands of shoppers who love the rush and the excitement of that "Black Friday" shopping. Many years ago I entertained the thought. I agreed it would be a wild experience and decided to go. We were in St. Cloud, Minnesota at the time. The alarm went off, I looked outside, saw it was still dark and blowing snow... and crawled back into bed. That thought hasn't returned since then- I guess I'm just not for that kind of entertainment.

On Saturday after Thanksgiving we drove back to South Dakota. Since then we've been in a rush preparing for the Christmas in Branson tour that we are hosting. Forty-two friends will be joining us on the tour. A great number of them have been on our Fun and Fellowship Tours before. You truly become great friends after being together 6 days, and many make it a yearly tradition to go with us. It's a great time.

We always enjoy the yearly tradition of helping pick out the Christmas tree! The season now is in full swing as everyone is preparing for Christmas. All of our calendars will be filled with parties, family gatherings, Christmas programs, shopping, etc. Each of us will come in contact with many, many people--saved and unsaved. It is our season, as Christians, to shine and let the world know where we stand. One simple way is by using two words - "Merry Christmas". Dozens of business and establishments forbid their employees to say these words, and inform them to greet customers by saying, "Happy Holidays" or "Season's Greetings". We all know the true meaning of Christmas- the birth of the Christ child. With those who are fighting to remove Christ out of Christmas, remove the manger scene and the tree, we need to take every advantage we have to keep Christ in Christmas. I would encourage you this season that when you meet others greet them, "Merry Christmas", and if they greet you with "Happy Holidays" quickly and kindly respond, "Oh, it's Merry Christmas- the season of celebrating Christ's birth...isn't that wonderful?" Be a light in this dimmed world- it needs it. Let's not lose Christmas.

CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK

Is my time up???

A 45-year-old woman had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital. While on the operating table she had a near death experience.

Seeing God she asked, "Is my time up?"

God said, "No, you have another 43 years, 2 months, and 8 days to live."

Upon recovery, the woman decided to stay in the hospital, have a facelift, lipo-suction, breast implants and a tummy tuck. She even had someone come in and change her hair color and brighten her teeth! Since she had so much more time to live, she figured she may as well make the most of it. After her last operation, she was released from the hospital. While crossing the street on her way home, she was killed by an ambulance.

Arriving in front of God she demanded, "I thought you said I had another 43 years? Why didn't you pull me from out of the path of the ambulance?"

God replied, "I didn't recognize you."

Just doing some office work!

Greetings from Sisseton! It is great to be home, but oh my, what a whirlwind of events we have all the while trying to keep the home office going. For everyone it is a busy time of year.

Me and MomThe highlight of this past week was celebrating my mother's 92nd birthday. What a gift it has been to have her a part of my life for all of my 63 years. Monday night, about 25 family members gathered at "Mom's" for her birthday. We had planned on having a potluck meal but she loves pizza so we had a pizza party instead. Larry commented to me the next morning, "Gloria, your mom is the happiest when the family comes home. I watched the expression on her face when she heard the siblings, cousins and mates laughing and interacting. Her greatest joy is having the family together." Another observation he made was, "Your mom is so loved by everyone in theThe Brooks family family!" (There are now nearly 110 of us in the immediate family scattered from coast to coast.) My mom has a unique gift of loving each of us personally and equally. Also, she prays every day for each one individually. We all know her deep love for God and we all agree, "When Grandma Brooks prays, all heaven is at attention!" Her great faith in God has been instilled in each one of us and has left a great impact on our lives.

Six siblingsAfter our meal, Larry pulled out the ol' family slide projector along with slides that Mom and he had taken over 40 plus years ago of all of us kids. You should have heard the laughter filling the house when those old photos hit the screen. Of course, each sibling took their opportunity to tease one another about their hairstyles, clothes, expressions, etc. It was a very rich time spent together...there is just nothing like family!

This Thanksgiving, we are all thanking God for being so good to our family and allowing Mom to be with us another year. God has answered so many prayers this year and has literally raised one of our family members off a deathbed from cancer for which we are very thankful and wholeheartedly grateful!

Sometimes, when we are in the thick of the battle, we have to stop and think in order to be thankful. I like what Robert Louis Stevenson said, "The person who has stopped being thankful has fallen asleep in life."

Just think of all the prayers God has answered in our lives. How many answers has he given you??? A thousand? Ten thousand? Take the time to thank Him for it!

It is our prayer that you will have or are having a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration!

Gloria

Greetings from South Dakota! Last Thursday we were in Phoenix, Arizona where there were temperatures in the 90s! As we were sitting outside eating lunch with a friend who was going to take us to the airport, Larry and I, simultaneously looked at each other and whimpered, "Do we really want to leave this beautiful weather and head back to the Midwest?" Even if we had a choice, we still would've left. You see, we had three good reasons to fly to Minneapolis...our daughter LaDawn, our grandson Dante, and our granddaughter Myanna. Those three were enough incentive to get us on the move back to the Midwest.

Those three were enough incentive to get us on the move back to the Midwest.

Several hours later, after a layover in Dallas, we That's a lot of luggage!arrived at the Minneapolis International Airport. We shuffled through the ever long halls from one terminal to another. Larry chided, "Well you like to walk...this will definitely fit your quota for the day." It did, especially when we were loaded down with laptop computers and carry-on suitcases. We claimed our luggage - four HUGE suitcases- at the baggage claim and headed off to the curb. What a wake-up call when that 32 degree air hit our face! But what a joy to see that little white car of LaDawn's pull up to the curb. There's nothing sweeter than to be greeted by loved ones at the airport.

LaDawn and the kids

We were able to spend two days with LaDawn and the grandchildren in the Cities. We don't have that pleasure very often, so we really enjoyed every moment that we got to spend together. Of course, the grandkids were happy to have us there to fuss over them.

Larry, Myanna & Dante

On Sunday we traveled onto Sisseton, South Dakota. It sure was good to see the lights of home. It has been a long year on the road. We are indeed weary in body, but thrilled for the hundreds of decisions that were made for Christ.

What a joy to be in our own home, in my own easy chair, and in my own bed- that doesn't have wheels under it- HA! Monday morning we woke up and had our morning coffee date. As I was sipping my coffee I looked across the small living room and saw a thick layer of dust on everything. That's what 2 ½ months without dusting will produce- HA! I could've easily written my name in it, but that didn't sound too entertaining to say the least. In a scurry, I did a quick dust and vacuum job so it would at least feel livable.

About 4 o'clock on Monday the doorbell rang, it was a delivery from the Flower Shop. She handed me a beautiful fall flower arrangement. I wondered, "Who sent that?" Anxiously, I opened the little card and it read, "I love you Mom and Dad...welcome home. - LaDawn" That made my day!

We'll be working at our home office this week. Boxes of mail are waiting to be attended to.

Next week is Thanksgiving. It seems like this year has sped by with lightening speed. We all have so much to be thankful for. I thank God for the thousand of miles that we safely traveled, for the hundreds who made decisions for Christ, for the miraculous provisions He has supplied, the peace He has given to us when all was in shambles, and for friends and family that God has healed...we are truly blessed!

In reality, we have to be thinkful to be thankful. We are often so busy and caught up in the cares and problems of life that we forget to hold onto the promises of God. The Bible says, "In everything give thanks...",1 Thessalonians 5:18. That's not easy...but as we chose to thank Him in every situation, God helps us through every situation. He says, "...My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness...", 2 Corinthians 12:9.

As you celebrate Thanksgiving next week, remember to share with each other the blessings of this past year. That's what Thanksgiving is all about!

T'was The Night of Thanksgiving

Twas the night of Thanksgiving, but I just couldn't sleep
I tried counting backwards, I tried counting sheep
The leftovers beckoned - the Dark meat and white
But I fought the temptation with all of my might.

Tossing and turning with anticipation
The thought of a snack became infatuation.
So I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door
and Gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore.

I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes,
Pickles and carrots, beans and tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling so plump and so round,
Til all of a sudden, my belt came unbound.

May your stuffing be tasty. May your turkey be plump.
May your potatoes ' n gravy have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious. May your pies take the prize.
May your Thanksgiving dinner stay off of your thighs!

What a whirlwind week! We were in North Platte, Nebraska the weekend before last and from there we drove to Gothenburg, NE for a wonderful evening of ministry at the Gothenburg United Methodist Church in which five or six churches participated. I love it when churches unite to worship the Lord and reach out to each other and reach the lost. I call it "practicing Heaven."

Rev. Randy Dilts and other pastors who attended the Gothenburg rally

Rev. Randy DiltsMany responded to the altar call and made decisions for Christ. That's energy to Larry and me! When someone comes to Christ it's like a blood transfusion to us; it just gives us new lifeKelly and Becky McCoy and determination. We love seeing couples like Kelly and Becky McCoy who recomitted their lives to Christ at the Gothenburg rally.  We thank God for pastor friends like Rev. Randy and Deb Dilts that have a burning desire to see their community reached with the Gospel.  Rev. Randy Dilts commented,

"A wonderful evening of ministry occurred on October 30th, at Gothenburg First United Methodist Church!  Rev. Larry Viter from Faith Chapel, and Rev. Mark Borchardt from Victory Assembly assisted me as counselors and supporters of the event.  A number of first time commitments were made as well as a number of rededications.  Several folks said it was so enjoyable that they wished more would have been there!  That creates fertile ground for a return visit!!!  It makes it all the more enjoyable when we know that Larry and Gloria remain true to their call to reach the lost.  We KNOW that a salvation call will be made in an appropriate, Scriptural manner.  Larry and Gloria come to build up churches, not to injure them in any way.  We had Baptists, Lutherans, Evangelical Free and members of a Covenant church attend the rally, along with folks from the three supporting churches.  There was no discord because of a solid Biblical call to come and meet Jesus Christ!  Thanks for coming, it was good to see Larry and Gloria.  This event marks 20 YEARS of having them come to all the churches we have been appointed to."

Several friends drove in from the area for the rally.  We were especially thrilled to have Marvin and Mary Arehardt, their son David, daughter Susan and her husband Melvin Falk.  Susan shared this with us,

"We had a wonderful evening with everyone at the Gothenburg service.  The scripture verse that kept resounding in my mind was "I was glad when they Gloria with the Arehardt familysaid unto me. "Let us go into the house of the Lord." Psalm 122:1. The Holy Spirit was evident as you shared music and the message from God's Word. What an encouragement to see people go forward for the first time to receive Christ.

Being there brought back so many memories for us. Mel remembered the rally that he was in charge of in Franklin many years ago. He was brought down with some serious appearing "illness" at the beginning of the week. It worsened through the week with him not even being able to go upstairs to bed. He spent the nights in a Lazy Boy in the living room. The night of the rally, I wasn't sure he would even be able to go, but he did. As the evening went on, Mel began to improve and by the end of the counseling time, was completely healed!"

They have been such an encouragement to us over the past 25 years. They would invite us, along with a bus load of our kids and friends, to unwind on their farm in Nebraska and they'd fix us lunch.  Aren't friends wonderful?

From Gothenburg, we headed off on a 1200 mile journey to Pheonix, AZ where we will leave our motorhome for the next 3 frigid Midwest weather months. There is nothing worse than having waterlines freeze...we've had it happen once...and once is enough. Larry told me a few years ago, "A bird has a brain the size of a pea, and they fly south for the winter...we need to be equally smart and go to the warmer climates to minister." He continues with a smile on his face, "I'm sure people in those warm climates need Jesus too!"

We'll fly back to Minneapolis, MN November 8th and be back in our Sisseton, SD office by November 12th.

LeRoy BlackBefore we left North Platte, NE Larry insisted on going and seeing the train yards. LeRoy Black was so kind to take him out and see them as he is employed by Bailey Yards. It's the biggest train yard in the U.S. and the second largest train yard in the world. It has over 400 tracks by which approximately 175 tracks are for sorting and they travel to destinations all over the U.S. There are freight cars, box cars, tank cars, refrigeration cars, flat cars, auto rack cars, plus many more! Bailey employs about 3,500 people. Needless to say, Larry was mezmerized by the endless web of tracks that headed every direction.

Just like life...there are thousands of spiritual or denominational tracks...everyone declaring that their track is the right track to Heaven or..."to bliss" as they say. But, Jesus says in John 14:6, "I am the Way the Truth and the Life, no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me." You can't depend on the goodness car, the baptismal car, the confirmation car, the catechism car, church attendance car, tithing car, or the just believe car to get you to the right place. Jesus said that no man can come to the Father but through Him. We all have to aknowledge that we've sinned, confess our sins and believe in Jesus Christ. When you get connected to him by repentance and conversion and grow and mature in Him you can be assured you're on the right track going the right direction and ending up at the right destination, which is Heaven.

Prayerfully, you are on the right track. If you're not sure you can pray right now and ask Jesus to come into your heart. He will meet you and He will give you the ticket to eternal life. That, my friend, is exciting! Have a great week!

A porter, loaded down with suitcases, followed a couple to the airline check-in counter. As they approached the line, the husband glances at the pile of luggage and said to his wife, "Why didn't bring the piano, too?"

"Are you trying to be funny?" She replied.

"No, I really wish you had," he sighed. "I left the tickets on it."

Greetings from Nebraska...the Cornhusker State! We have been blessed with Indian Summer, an extension of beautiful weather. It was 75 degrees yesterday. I would have loved to have placed the gorgeous day, weather and all of its elements in a time capsule and releasing it during one of those cold winter days in South Dakota.

Last weekend we drive to North Platte, Nebraska, for a weekend of ministry. What a sweet time it was! Again, we were greeted by a loving congregation and a kind and compassionate pastoral couple, Rev. and Mrs. Dennis Leitner. Everyone was so gracious and they came to church with anticipation of what God was going to do. If we just lift up Christ, He does the rest! Larry and I stand on the side watching God draw people to Himself. Awesome! All ages responded to the altar call with many recommitting their lives to Christ along with others who gave their lives to Christ for the first time.

Dennis & Linda LeitnerLast weekend we drive to North Platte, Nebraska, for a weekend of ministry.

Pastor Leitner shared the following regarding the rally:

"It was truly delightful to have Larry and Gloria in our morning service at Calvary Assembly of God. It is so Altar call at North Platte, NErefreshing to hear the Gospel message emphasizing the Lord's call to the Lost. Our whole church body was blessed and ministered to by the anointed songs, testimonies and the Word. Many responded to the altar calls...both for salvation and rededication. Thank you, Larry and Gloria, for your ministry and friendship to Calvary."

In the congregation that morning, there must have been nearly 100 people who have followed our ministry through the years so we felt right at home. Clenda KrizekOne of those people is Clenda Krizek, the church administrator of Calvary. She is electric with the love of Jesus-and she definitely gives off a sweet aroma of Jesus. She had this to say regarding our time of ministry there,

"What a wonderful service we had with Larry and Gloria. Their simple, but very impacting way of presenting the Gospel really ministered to me. I am so thankful for the response from our people to the altar call. We do serve an awesome God. When Gloria shared her testimony, it really touched me because of the prayers of God's people. Their music ministry was wonderful as well. Larry and Gloria are just like family. They have been such a blessing to us."Mmm...brownies!

Sunday night, the church held an event which they call, "Weenollah" (Halloween spelled backwards). It was a family night of costumes, games, prizes, sloppy joes, and much more. What a fun time of fellowship! Of course, we were mesmerized by all of the lovable toddlers in their adorable little costumes with their faces embellished with paint and food. Too cute! There's nothing like kids and watching their excitement...it's contagious! Of course, Larry liked all the treats too.

Last week en route to North Platte clear from the Canadian border, our pastor friends in Winner, SD, invited us to stop overnight. Just hours before we arrived, their daughter went into labor and consequently, they raced off to North Dakota to be with her. Because they had to leave before we arrived, they called and told us they had left keys for us making their home available to us to relax in, do laundry, and to also hook our motorhome up to the church for electricity. We pulled in, and Larry took care of the first task of hooking up to the electricity at the church. The wind was blowing ferociously outside and I was anxious to get some long overdue dirty laundry washed so I asked Larry for the key to the house. He tossed me a key ring with over a dozen keys on it. I looked at the keys, of which, most of them looked identical so I questioned Larry, "Which one is the key to the house?" He replied, "I don't know. You will just have to try each one until you find the right one." In my eagerness to get inside that was not the answer I was wanting to hear. I wanted an easy, "This one." But, he didn't know so I sauntered up the sidewalk with keys in hand, arms loaded with laundry and the wind gusting all around me. I stood there against the gale and tried one key after another. By this time I was getting a little frustrated as I began to insert the tenth key into the lock, "Come on now. I am tired of this guessing game." Then, ever so smoothly, the key slipped, turned and I was in. What a relief it was to be in out of the wind!

Sometimes I face situations and trials in life where I am begging God for direction and it is similar to this key experience. God gives us keys to get through the trial, but I weary of the battle, the winds of discouragement; I just want a simple key to victory. However, it doesn't always work that way. Someone once said, "Many times we pray and ask God to remove the storms from our lives, but oftentimes God will allow the storms to rage and He will calm the man in the midst of the storm." Our key to victory is available and it is right there. Jeremiah 33 says, "Call on me and I will answer thee and show thee great and mighty things." Jesus is the Key, but it requires time in the throne room to connect with Him. Our tendency is to be impatient wanting the answer now, in our time and how I want it. Robert Schuller said, "Within every adversity lies a slumbering possibility." Yet, I love what Jesus says in Mark 9:23, "If thou canst believe, all things are possible."

He is the Key! Are you facing a trial today? Call on Him. He is waiting for you!

Have a great week!

Police story

It was the end of the day when I parked my police van in front of the station. As I gathered my equipment, my K-9 partner, Jake, was barking. I saw a little boy staring at me, "Is that a dog you've got back there?" "Yeah. It sure is." I replied. Puzzled, the boy looked at me and then towards the back of the van. Finally he said, "What did he do?"

TEACHER: "Can anyone give an example of 'coincidence'?"

JOHNNY: "Sir, my mother and my father got married on the same day, same time."

THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH

October is Pastor Appreciation Month. Please be sure to make a special effort to let your pastor, wife and staff know how much you appreciate them. It would be great if you could give them a "green" handshake (in other words a little gift of money or gift certificates for restaurants or fuel.) They do so much for us and make great sacrifices to serve their congregations.

Greetings! We are just leaving the great state of North Dakota after an awesome time of ministry in Minot last weekend. We have been coming to Minot, ND since the early 70's and over the years have made many friends...of which many still remain, but we have so enjoyed making new friends as well. Minot First Assembly of God is currently in a pastoral transition so Pastor Jack Glass and his wife, Coletta, dear friends of ours, are interning there for the next three months. We have ministered with Pastor Glass in several places so it was like coming back home.

Greetings! We are just leaving the great state of North Dakota after anJack and Coletta Glass awesome time of ministry in Minot last weekend. Pastor Glass had this to say regarding our ministry in Minot,

"What a joyful experience is was having you with us again, Larry and Gloria. Praise God for the fifteen people who came forward. Keep trucking!"

Minot altar callWe were welcomed by an enthusiastic congregation who were excited and anticipating God to do great things...and He did! In both morning services, several responded to the altar call for the first time, and many prodigals came home! How thrilling!

One lady in her 50's who made a first time decision for Christ told me, "I first heard you in 1973 here in Minot. I felt God then, but never responded to give Him my life, but today, I wept through the whole service and when Larry gave the altar call, I stepped forward to make Jesus Lord of my life." WOW! Her testimony confirmed that once you feel the presence of God, you never forget that feeling.

Les Mau, First Assembly of God's business administrator shared the followingLarry with Les Mau about the services,

"It was such a blessing to have Larry and Gloria with us for our Sunday morning services. We had a large number of new people attend, many who have been ministered to in the past by the Lundstroms. They came again to be touched by God through these two wonderful servants of the Lord. The music was awesome, the laughter was contagious, the message was relevant and the Holy Spirit was moving! Many people responded to receive Christ for the first time or to recommit their lives to Him. To God be the Glory! Thanks, Larry and Gloria."

Les was a real blessing to us. What a gift of hospitality and servanthood he has! The church is blessed to have him on staff along with the others, one of them being their bookkeeper, Lynne Heizelman.

Lynne Heizelman"It was great to see Larry and Gloria Lundstrom again. Our families go all the way back to the 1970's in South Dakota. The Sunday morning service was wonderful here. I still remember the words to the medley of Lundstrom songs. Undoubtedly, the best part of the service was the altar call. A classmate of mine from high school was one of the many that responded. Thank you, Larry and Gloria, for your dedication to reaching the Lost."

There was such a sweet touch of God on the entire day of ministry. On Sunday evening, Larry and I were blessed to be able to sit back and be ministered unto by Pastor Glass. The message was so rich, we left filled and challenged. Thanks, Pastor Jack.

From Minot, we drove to Rugby, a small community that is best known for theGloria by the Stone Cairn "Stone Cairn" that marks the geographical center of North America. The location was established in 1931 by a US Geological Survey. Quite a feeling overwhelmed me as I stood by the Stone Cairn with the gusty fall wind swirling around me and realized I was literally standing in the center of North America. I am sure it was a challenge for the survey team to determine the exact location amidst the changing seasons and extreme weather North Dakota experiences. I know I wouldn't want to be standing there between November and April due to the effects of the Midwest winter- inches of blowing snow, blizzard winds, subzero temps-you get the idea.

All the pastors from Rolette, NDFrom Rugby, we drove over to Rolette, which is nestled next to the Canadian border. We set up in the high school gym for an evening soulwinning rally hosted by Pastor Gene and Jeanine Wilson and Pastor Joel and Emily Davis. We had a wonderful altar call where many responded. The Wilson's and the Davis's are young couples who carry a burden for the rural areas and they love people. Rolette altar call

This testimony from Melissa was shared with us and touched our hearts:

"Dear Larry & Gloria,

It was a great pleasure to hear and see you both again. It had been a very long time. My friend and I had a really good time and we both needed to be there that evening. Everything that you both said was "WOW"

After the great event, I had the pleasure of visiting with Gloria and it was so nice. I really needed that, and I was so happy to know that you were there to listen to me.

I am looking forward to reading the books and listening to the many cassette tapes and also the cd's. I will forever remember this special night. Please visit us again."

Last Sunday morning, I had a rather humorous event take place. We had finished the 8:30 AM service and I was visiting with people, counseling and making my way to the front of the church to make sure everything was in order for our second service. A young, spirited woman in her early 30's walked right up to me, leaned in to me, looked at the left side of my head and then the right side and finally exclaimed as if she had found a pot of gold, "It's you!" I chuckled, "I hope so! I know it was me when I got up this morning! HA!" She giggled, "No, no, no! You see, I found this earring lying on the bathroom floor and I had sifted through nearly 300 people checking every woman to see who was missing an earring." She dangled it in front of me and proclaimed, "It's yours. You are missing one." Once again, she held up my $3.00 earring special as if it was a great treasure and joyfully presented it to me. Had she not found it, I would have gone through the entire second service with only one earring in which would have been quite noticeable. I was so appreciative for her gift of persistence to find the owner of the earring.

This episode reminded me of the lost coin story in Luke 15:8-10. "Or suppose a woman has ten silver coins

and loses one. Does she not light a lamp, sweep the house and search carefully until she finds it? And when she finds it, she calls her friends and neighbors together and says, 'Rejoice with me; I have found my lost coin.' In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

Think of the persistence this woman exhibited to find that lost coin. Or the persistence my friend had to find the owner of the lost earring. It is that same persistence that we all need in order to go and find lost ones without Christ so we can witness and love them into the Kingdom. God has allowed lost coins-to be within our sight and reach----not just to see them but to lead them to Christ. God help all of us to be faithful in the Great Commission.

Have a great week!Gloria and Colene

P.S. It was nice to see Colene Ninneman last week in Stanley, North Dakota. She worked with our ministry years ago. We appreciated her talents and it is always good to reconnect!

For a wonderful addition to a hot chocolate drink, try cinnamon sticks. Even better, dip your cinnamon sticks in melted chocolate and let them dry before using them to stir your drink. You can also wrap up a few to go with a drink mix you'd like to give as a gift.

Greetings from North Dakota! We are currently near the Canadian/North Dakota border where there is lots of prairieland and wide open spaces. It is actually refreshing to be out of the hustle and bustle of big cities along with the crazy traffic, especially when we are driving a 45-foot motorhome and pulling a suburban behind it. Needless to say, it's a lot of "rig" to dodge traffic with. Larry drives...and I pray! HA! Yes, I am also the backseat and co-driver, always chirping something like, "Watch out! Be careful! Slow down!" You get the idea. Poor Larry. I guess it's a good thing he is a little hard of hearing in one ear so I don't shake him up.

Speaking of hearing-I was visiting last week with some friends in Williston, ND. They informed me that their daughter is learning sign language (which by the way, I am envious of as I have always wished I would have learned it in order to incorporate it into ministry). Anyway, I spoke up, "I still should learn sign language because Larry, and from what I understand, a lot of other husbands, have what is called 'selective hearing'. They hear only what they want to hear and ignore the rest. It would come in handy when Larry chooses to use his selective hearing! HA!" I thought to myself it would also give me a good excuse to use my dramatic Norwegian hand-flinging gestures to communicate. We, Norwegians, have jokingly been accused of not being able to talk without using our hands and honestly, it's true.

Last Sunday, we were invited by Pastor Jeremy and Mandy Harris to minister Fellowship at the Harvest Festivalat Lake Assembly of God in Powers Lake, North Dakota. This couple and their church worked hard to make the Harvest Festival really special. The church was beautifully decorated and they served a Dan, foreign exchange student from Germanydelicious roast beef dinner with all the trimmings after the service. Sunday morning, people filled the pews and we had a precious altar call. Among the many who responded was Danny, a young man who is a foreign exchange student from Germany. God really touched his life and he just beamed after he prayed the salvation prayer. Imagine the impact he can make on his friends and family when he goes back to Germany.

I don't know if you remember the story of the three young teenagers who "happened" to walk into a revival service out East. Two of the teenagers turned around and walked out but one young man stayed and gave his heart to Christ. He entered into ministry and has won literally millions to Christ. The one young man that stayed and responded to the altar call was Billy Graham. We never know the impact of one person receiving Christ, do we.

Pastor Jeremy Harris, his wife Mandy and their son CalebPastor Jeremy and Mandy are an exceptional young couple with zeal and enthusiasm to reach the Lost. They pastor two churches in this rural area, Powers Lake and Stanley. They have two wonderful congregations who love them dearly and we can see why! We so enjoyed our time of fellowship with them.  Pastor Jeremy commented, "Larry and Gloria truly came to Stanley and Powers Lake with a genuine spirit to minister to the people. Their genuine spirit was not only a blessing to our congregation, but was also a blessing to my family.Powers Lake, ND altar call God's kingdom was truly expanded through their ministry. Thank you so very much for your willingness to come to rural North Dakota."

What a wonderful surprise! On Tuesday, Larry and I reached the 42 year milestone in our marriage. We hadn't really planned on celebrating as we worked all day and held a rally in Stanley, North Dakota, in the evening. (We do plan to take a day off later this week.) BUT, at the end of a wonderful service, the church surprised us with a beautiful anniversaryThe cake was good to the last bite! cake. We enjoyed the tasty dessert, along with coffee and some wonderful fellowship. We did celebrate...not only our anniversary but we celebrated those who made decisions for Christ. There is nothing more thrilling than seeing people's lives changed.

This week Larry and I begin our 43rd year of marriage and ministry together. We are excited! I told Larry, "When we got married 42 years ago, I couldn't comprehend being married this long." Larry simply responded, "I could. I looked forward to spending every day with you, my best friend, until my last breath." How sweet of him! He's stuck with this Norwegian!

Has it been all roses? No. We have had our share of tests and trials, but we have allowed each of these trials to draw us closer, not apart. Someone once said, "You marry out of passion, but what keeps you together through the storms of life is compassion." How true! We don't have a perfect marriage, but we have a Godly, wonderful marriage which we accredit to our love for God, our call to ministry, our determination to never, never, give up and our commitment to keep dating. That truly makes for a happy marriage! When we are weary in well-doing, we stand on Nehemiah 8:10, "The joy of the Lord is our strength." Also, Psalm 188:14, "The Lord is my strength and song." I am thankful for the songs he puts within our hearts. By the way, we heard a medical statistic the other day. "People who sing a lot have a lesser chance of acquiring Alzheimers." We both looked at each other, chuckled and exclaimed, "Sing, Baby, sing!" If that statistic is true, I'll keep singing as long as I have breath.

Well, today, I have a song in my heart because I know whom I have believed in and am persuaded He is able to keep that (my life, marriage, health, finances, family) which I have committed unto Him against that day. (2 Timothy 1:12)

Have a great week!

The Ideal Marriage...

Adam and Eve had an ideal marriage. He didn't have to hear about all the men she could have married, and she didn't have to hear about the way his mother cooked!

THOUGHT OF THE WEEK

October is Pastor Appreciation Month. Please be sure to make a special effort to let your pastor, wife and staff know how much you appreciate them. It would be great if you could give them a "green" handshake (in other words a little gift of money or gift certificates for restaurants or fuel.) They do so much for us and make great sacrifices to serve their congregations.

Some Bird

When some churches want a new minister, they want one with-

the strength of an eagle,

the gentleness of a dove,

the grace of a swan,

the eye of a hawk,

the friendliness of a sparrow,

the night hours of an owl,

the industry of a woodpecker,

the attractiveness of a peacock,

the tough skin of a gander,

and when they get that bird,

they want him to live on the food of a canary.

How well said!

RECIPE OF THE WEEK

Creamy Corn Casserole

3 Tbs. butter or margarine, divided

1 cup finely chopped celery

1/4 cup finely chopped onion

1/4 cup finely chopped red pepper

1 can condensed Cream of Chicken soup

3 cups fresh, frozen, or canned corn, drained

1 (8 oz.) can sliced water chestnuts, drained

½ cup soft bread crumbs

Melt 2 tablespoons butter in medium skillet. Add celery, onion, and red pepper and saute until vegetables are tender, about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in soup, corn and water chestnuts. Spoon into a greased 2-quart casserole dish. Toss bread crumbs with remaining 1 tablespoon melted butter. Sprinkle on top of casserole and bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes. Yields about 8 servings.

HOUSEHOLD HINT OF THE WEEK

When you need to test the doneness of a cake or bread, and you don't have a cake-testing tool, use and uncooked piece of spaghetti. It's long enough to test the doneness of your deepest baked goods.

Greetings from Williston, North Dakota! There is definitely a chilly nip in the air today. I had to turn the heat up a bit to stay warm in our motorhome. Now it's warm and toasty...a far cry from the old days when Larry and I started ministering in 1965. We traveled in an old beater of a bus...the actual name of it was "Flxible". The name was fitting as you had to be flexible to live in it. It had no frills such as air conditioning, a bathroom, a fridge, or electricity. The little heater heated the front area of about 16-20 inches in front of the drivers seat. It was so cold in there that we'd tuck the little children in snow suits to sleep in. They were so bundled up they looked like little Eskimos in their little beds! They often wanted a glass of water close to their bed to drink during the night, and many, many times it was so cold that the water would crystalize by morning. Am I complaining...actually no.

They were so bundled up they looked like little Eskimos in their little beds! They often wanted a glass of water close to their bed to drink during the night, and many, many times it was so cold that the water would crystalize by morning.

Am I complaining...actually no. I'm rejoicing and thankful that we lived through those earliest days of ministry. Thank God He always took care of us.

It's been another great week of ministry. After the Women's Retreat in Billings, Montana we headed down the road to Wibaux. Wibaux, MT is a small, rural town right on the border of Montana and North Dakota- near Beach, ND. I thought if I didn't tell you where it was...you may never find it on the map- HA!

We arrived in Wibaux about 6:30 p.m., just before dark, having driven through some road construction in Montana. When we got to the church parking lot we were graciously greeted by Pastor Warren Maxted's wife, Bev. Larry went out to open the bay doors on the passenger side to start loading in. Then he went to the driver's side to open those too. I heard Larry address me, "Honey..." with a sound of concern in his voice. Again he said, "Honey...you better come out and Some of the tar and oil on the Suburbanlook at this." Hearing that discouraging tone in his voice really got me worried. I ran out to him and my heart sank at what I saw. The last 15 feet of the motorhome and the entire suburban- was caked with black/ brown tar and oil. It looked like we had blown an engine! Frantically, Larry checked the engine compartment and everything was okay- Praise the Lord. We wiped a spot, and sure enough, it was tar and oil. We were confused as to how it could've gotten there. All the construction we came through was on the West bound lanes on interstate. We called the state highway department and voiced our complaint and confusion and they confirmed there was no work done in the East bound lanes. As we reflected on it more, we remembered seeing several men standing in the median with their tar and oil wands who had been spraying in the other lanes. What we think -and has been pretty much confirmed, but with no proof- is that evidently one of those workers, was probably disgruntled. Either he simply did not like our motorhome, or maybe he was jealous and thought we were retired with too much free time on our hands. What everything points to right now is that when we came by, he turned the tar and oil wand on the motorhome and suburban. It literally looked like someone had used a paint sprayer and painted it black and brown...it was so thick in some spots that it looked like it was baked on.

In a frenzy, Larry grabbed a can of tar remover- thankfully he had in with all his stuff- and he and I and Pastor Maxted's wife, Bev (bless her!) scrubbed and rubbed as much as we could get off before total darkness squelched our project. Afterwards, we wished we would've taken photos but we were in such a panic and it was getting dark quickly. We were just sick about it!!! Thursday morning, Larry and I hit the project again, and worked about 11 hours between the two of us. Now in the daylight, everywhere we looked was splattered and speckeled with tar and oil- 5 feet up the side for the total length of the 45 foot motorhome and the left side, hood and front of the Suburban. We worked 2 full days and got off most of the surface oil and tar that is visible, but there is still much underneath the wheel wells and bag compartments, etc to get off.

In the midst of this discouraging mess, I kept fretting, "Larry what will take all this off? What can wash it off" Just when I said that, the old gospel song came to mind, "What can wash away my sins...nothing but the blood of Jesus. What can make me whole again...nothing but the blood of Jesus." I was reminded that unless we have the proper and right tar remover, this stuff simply would not budge. With the right remover, it began to wipe off.

It's the same with our spiritual lives. Sometimes as we are journeying through this life we make mistakes, we fail, or can I say... tar up our lives. Spiritually speaking, there is also only ONE sin remover...and that is the blood of Jesus. Romans 10:13 says, "For whosoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." That scripture offers sinners a free clean-up job. If we call on the Lord, repent of our sins He will forgive us, clean us up, and we can start our lives all over- clean before Christ. In fact, He cleans us up so good, it's as if nothing ever happened. That's God's gift of forgiveness...and it's totally free.

Rev. Warren and Bev MaxtedAfter the Thursday cleaning frenzy we had to take a break and set up for a service at the Wibaux Assembly of God Church with Pastor Warren and Bev Maxted. It's a modest church, but Pastor Warren and Bev have big hearts full of passion and zeal to reach the Lost. We had a small crowd...but it wasn't a small matter to God. He anointed the music and sermon and Larry challenged them to reach out to the Lost.  From Wibaux we drove out to Williston, North Dakota- known best for it's oil fields. They are back in the oil boom again after a long drought.

Sunday morning we ministered in Williston, ND at Rev. Kyle and Cheryl Andersonthe Assembly of God Church with Pastor Kyle and Cheryl Anderson. They are another sweet, spirited Pastor and wife with a wonderful staff whose statement of faith is, "A passion for God, a passion for God's Word, a passion for God's people." When Larry gave the altar call, God's passion and compassion burned brightly as they flooded the altar to make decisions for Christ. We were thrilled to see many of them making first time decisions.  Rev. Anderson says, "We have had the privilege of hosting Larry and Gloria Lundstrom ministries several times in our pastorates--twice in the past 18 months. As always, Larry and Gloria communicate the Gospel effectively Altar call at Williston Assembly of God in Williston, NDand concisely to the audience, and without fail, lift up Jesus Christ. In our most recent service, there were 9 rededications to the Lord, and 3 first-time decisions. Larry and Gloria come with servant's hearts, and are a pleasure to work with. I have never known them to be demanding of anything. The truly demonstrate a humble and grateful spirit. I have, and continue to highly recommend them to any pastor desiring to schedule a true evangelist with a music emphasis. Your congregation will be blessed!"

As I said, the Williston Assembly of God is blessed to have a wonderful staff.Lyle and Hilda Thorpe One example is Associate Pastor Lyle and Hilda Thorpe (who by the way, used to be chaplain for the Lowell Lundstrom Ministries in Sisseton, SD). They are up in years but definitely young at heart and what a passion they have for the Lost and hurting...Lyle shares, "It was a joy and a blessing to be with and minister alongside Larry & Gloria in last Sunday's service at Williston Assembly of God! Both Larry & Gloria ministered under the anointing of the Holy Spirit and there were several who made first time commitments, and others who came to rededicate and re-affirm their vows to Jesus Christ! Only eternity will reveal what took place in individual lives! God bless you richly as you continue to preach the uncompromising Gospel of Jesus Christ! You are loved!"

Youth pastor Chris Johnson and his familyAnd we cannot forget...the church is also blessed with a great Youth minister, Chris Johnson, who had this to say, "Greetings from Williston Assembly of God, Williston, ND. It was refreshing to experience the Presence of God through two choice servants of Jesus Christ. Thank you Larry and Gloria!"

They are doing a great job...and look at this sweet family!

Well, I must go, but again, it was nice chatting with you and we'll talk to you next week- be blessed!

Gloria

CHUCKLE OF THE WEEK

New fangled technology

A lady came to the hospital to visit a friend. She had not been in a hosp for several years and felt very ignorant about all the new technology. A technician followed her onto the elevator, wheeling a large, intimidating looking machine with tubes, wires and dials. "Boy, would I hate to be hooked up to that thing," she said.

"So would I," replied the technician.

"It's a floor cleaning machine."

Early diagnosis

Doctors can be frustrating. You wait a month and a half for an appt, and he says, "I wish you'd come to see me sooner."

HOUSEHOLD HINT OF THE WEEK

Before making meringue, wipe the bowl and beaters with a cloth dipped in vinegar- it will remove any fat, so the whites beat up as high and fast as possible.
