What a beautiful drive through the prairie lands and badlands en route to the breathtaking Black Hills of South Dakota!

Destination: Camp Judson, which is nestled next to the historic, small tourist town of Keystone. The retreat center is located just four miles from the world famous Mount Rushmore.

Reason: We got an invitation to speak at the Senior Adult SD A/G Ministries State Retreat. Hmmm...seems like just yesterday...okay, actually 50 years ago...the Lundstroms were invited to the Black Hills area to conduct teen camps and family camps. Back then we would receive invitations for women's meetings, family rallies and now the invitation was for a senior's retreat. I can hardly believe the years have flown by so quickly! Larry's line is "Life is like a roll of toilet paper...the closer you get to the end...the faster it rolls!"

As you ponder that thought, let me backtrack a minute. During our route over the 450 miles from Sisseton (NE corner of SD) to the Black Hills (SW corner of SD), we were blessed to see the beautiful fields full of corn and soybeans. The golden hayfields looked like a playground of giant gold cylinders. Then, as we neared the Missouri River, we were delighted to enjoy miles and miles of sunflower fields. If you have never visited the prairie lands of South Dakota, you must visit our great state. The sights of dancing deer and antelope, roaming buffalo, and thousands of pheasants and wild turkeys entertained us on the trip. I exclaimed, "This was truly a wonderful 'vacation drive' being able to enjoy God's beautiful creation and breathtaking scenery." The only downer of the trip was by the time we had gotten to the world renown Wall Drug, the mercury in the thermometer peaked at 103 degrees. Before arriving there, we read a billboard that said, "Wall Drug...Free Ice Water, Homemade Donuts, Pies and Ice Cream." Needless to say, the sign got Larry's attention and the suburban came to a much-welcome screeching halt. We got a 5 cent cup of coffee and a piece of homemade blackberry pie with some unforgettable homemade ice cream. We then took off again as HAPPY travelers!

When we arrived in Keystone, we were blessed to have our friends, Duane and Laura, provide a hideaway for a few days at the beautiful Rushmore Express Inn for us to study and prepare for the upcoming retreat. Thanks, again, for the haven of rest! You so blessed us!

On Wednesday night, we began the Seniors Retreat. Larry and I chose as our theme, "You're Not Old...You Are Gold!" We encouraged the seniors that they have so much to offer. The younger generation and our families need our prayers, our Godly guidance, encouragement and seasoned advice. They need to hear the stories of our faith and of God's provision through the rough times.

David's prayer in Psalms 71, verse 18, is a great prayer for seniors, "Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come."

Just as gold radiates beauty, we, as grandparents, need to continually show forth God's righteousness to the generations that are following us.

It was a privilege to be invited by Rev. Nels and Angie Easterby to minister at the retreat. They are action-packed, vision-minded and have an Nels & Angie Easterbyoverwhelming love and passion for the seniors. Their energy for ministry will never be forgotten. They poured their hearts and strength out to each one that attended. They shared the following regarding the retreat:

"WOW! Thank you for your tremendous ministry at the SD Senior Retreat at Camp Judson this week. What a great time we had, God certainly was there and met us in a very special way! Thank you for a well rounded menu of ministry for our seniors, we are still basking in the gems we received."

It was also special reconnecting with many friends that we have made and known throughout the years who have supported and encouraged us. Even though many of them are in their "golden years" they are still active in many various types of ministry.

Steve & Rachel Schaible

It was an honor and privilege to have Steve and Rachel Schaible, the District Superintendent and his wife of the Assemblies of God of South Dakota, with us at our Senior's Retreat at Camp Judson. We love and appreciate them.

The following are a few statements regarding the time of ministry:

"We were challenged in many areas, to pray, to forgive and to witness.  It was so much fun to be a part of the retreat"

"The Lundstrom's had a wonderful message for seniors of 'getting busy' and enjoying the journey!"

"I am encouraged to deepen my prayer life."

"The retreat was refreshing.  There was a good balance of down-to-earth teaching, music, and ministry."

"I was personally challenged to make new commitments to the Lord!"

"I loved the music, the ministry, the teaching and the food."

"Each session was special, Spiritual encouragement and fellowship was great!"

Ron & LaVonne Masters

It was great to see Ron and LaVonne Masters from Rapid City, SD.

Andy & Carrol Hubbeling

We were able to see Andy and Carol Hubbeling, who are also from Rapid City.

I met Carol when I was a teenager - WOW!

Brad Kingsriter"My wife and I really appreciated your ministry at the S.D. Senior's Retreat in the Black Hills. Even though my wife and I are in our late 30's we enjoyed ourselves immensely. We brought 18 senior's from our church, and they all had a wonderful time. The ministry time was excellent, and the fellowship time refreshing. The messages you shared for the senior's ministered to my wife and I as well.

Thank you for following God, and allowing Him to use you!"

Rev. Brad Kingsriter

Aberdeen, SD

We even had a group from Sisseton join us for the retreat! It was a joy to have our friends, Cleon & Marlys Brooks, Bob & Carol Beasley, and June Evenson, from our hometown there with us.

The three days were action-packed. We were blessed just as much, or more, being there with this wonderful group.

Late on September 5th, we headed off again, 450 miles back to our starting point, arriving in Sisseton early Saturday morning. Saturday we tried to catch up on mail, do laundry and re-pack to board the tour bus on Tuesday morning with our friends who are joining us for our Fun and Fellowship tour to the National Quartet Convention in Louisville, KY. We will tell you more about that in the next update!

May you have a wonderful month. Enjoy the change of seasons..it's so special!

RECIPE

Easy Fruit Cobbler

Pat Jensvold Mesa, AZ

16 0z. package of frozen fruit

1 package Jello

1 package cake mix

1 stick of melted butter

3/4 cup water

Layer the fruit in bottom of 9 X 13 baking dish. Sprinkle with powdered jello. Cover with box of cake mix powder. Drizzle with melted butter and water. Bake about one hour at 350 degrees.

Suggestions:

Mix fruits such as peaches and blue or black berries, rhubarb and strawberries, mixed berries or whatever you like. I use sugar free jello and the flavor depends on the fruits you choose. If using tart fruit such as rhubarb you may want to add a little sugar. I use yellow, white or pink cake mixes. This is a good pot-luck dessert dish to take.

You just know it's not going to be a good day when the doorbell rang, Larry answered it-and a chipper salesman pipes up, "I'm here selling headstones for the cemetary...are you interested?" There was a couple seconds pause...I hollered down..."NO!" There was complete silence, sheepishly and a bit embarrassed at this voice coming from afar, Larry consoled him, "Can you come back in November? I just got home off tour last night and I'm covered deep with office work." Meanwhile feeling a bit under the weather and looking like I had been run over by a dump-truck, I didn't need to hear that he was going to return so I hollered down again, "NO! NO!" At that moment Larry broke out in hilarious laughter, I heard him say, "As you can tell, this is not a good day to talk about head stones."

Well, anyway the episode gave us a good laugh. In reality laughter is good, laughter is healing. Mayo clinic encourages it's patients to watch old funny movies and read joke books. They inform them that laughter is health to the organs of the body. God's word tells us "The joy of the Lord is our strength and A merry heart doeth good like a medicine." ( Nehemiah 8:9-11 and Prov. 17:22)

Well, Praise the Lord, we've had a lot of joy and laughter in the last couple of weeks which has produced more joy and laughter and strength.

Rev. Scott & Nancy JansWe were happy to be invited back to minister with Pastor Scott and Nancy Jans in Fairbanks, IA at the Lord of the Harvest Lutheran church. There were smiles and joy during the whole service as we sang and ministered...especially at the altar call when they float up to the altar to make decisions for Christ and reaffirmations of their faith. Scott and Nancy's hearts burn with great fervor to see the lost come to Christ.

From Iowa we traveled back to Minnesota where we held last Sunday mornings service at...GET THIS!!! Twin Lakes Christian Center with Pastor Percy Kallevig who is a twin and his twin brother, Perry was visiting! Pastor Percy lives in Elk River, MN and his twin brother, Perry pastors in Elk Grove, CA. Now is that coincidental? You must admit it's interesting! Perry & Percy KallevigWe've known both Percy and Perry since they were about 4 yrs old and their parents were pastoring in North Dakota. They are two great guys and both are wonderful pastors.

This was our third visit back with Pastor Percy. It's always an exciting and fun time as Percy is one of those full steam ahead compassionate pastors who has a servants heart, is always giving, and has a huge smile on his face. Needless to say God blessed him with a wonderful wife, Debbie.

Pastor Percy shared the following regarding our time with him:

"Thank you, Larry and Gloria, for your ministry.  We had a husband and wife come forward to publicly declare their faith in Jesus Christ.  I thank the Lord for the work of the evangelist!"

Sunday morning Dean and Maggie Bitner, close friends of Pastor Percy stepped forward to receive Christ for the first time. Larry and I have witnessed thousands of decisions through the years, but this one was just extra special! Look at the photo thatDean & Maggie Bitner Larry took of Dean and Maggie it shows what happened when they prayed. Look at the joy that glows forth from them. Dean said, "This was the day. This was the appointed time for Maggie and I. We loved the service, the music and the message. When Larry gave the invitation, we knew it was for us and it was the right time. Now when we die we know we will go to heaven."

Hanna & Kayla Basinski

Hanna handed us an envelope with $.50 in it and said, "I want to give this money out of my allowance for your ministry." How sweet!

Orville & Laverne Peterson

It was wonderful to see long, long time friends who have been so faithful to us and this ministry through the years.

On the fun side, we had the opportunity to attend the Minnesota State Fair in St. Paul with our daughter, LaDawn, and grandchildren, Dante and Myanna. Dante plays the Dante in the drum linetenor drum for Rosemont High School. They marched and performed that day. Last Monday their band was requested to play for over 3000 of Minnesota's school teachers and they received an overwhelming response. Dante said their appreciation made their whole summer practice worth it.

Of course, we hit all the snack stands of cheese curds, corn on the cob, fresh blackberry malt, pork chop on a stick, mini-doughnuts, cookies, etc, etc. So that was my yearly splurge. Fun, fun, fun!

Matt & Sherry McPherson

Oh yes!  Also, it was so fun running into our special friends, Matt and Sherry McPherson from Sparta, WI.

Well, we pray that you will have a great week and a safe and fun Labor Day weekend. Talk to you in September.

After a church service on Sunday morning, a young boy suddenly announced to his mother, "Mom, I've decided to become a minister when I grow up."

"That's okay with us, but what made you decide that?"

"Well," said the little boy, "I have to go to church on Sunday anyway, and I figure it will be more fun to stand up and yell than to sit and listen."

RECIPE

Apple Dip

1-8oz pkg cream cheese

3/4 c brown sugar

1/4 c white sugar

1 tsp vanilla

Combine ingredients in a mixing bowl and stir until smooth. Then it's time to dip and enjoy!

After our appointments, we headed back to Waterloo, IA. The Iowa cornfields are absolutely breathtaking. God is so good! I pleaded with Larry to stop so I could get this picture of how tall the corn is. Larry is 6' 3" so that gives you an idea of the actual height of the corn. Just seeing these luscious corn fields all over definitely whet our appetite for a good meal of corn-on-the-cob! We had another two weeks filled to the max. We wove back and forth between Iowa, South Dakota and Minnesota.

August 13, 2008

It's 7:30 AM and here I sit in the lobby of the dentist office in Des Moines, IA.  I'm not a 7:30 AM "sitting in any lobby, any day of the week" gal....except for Sundays of course.  We are so grateful to Dr. Jim that he could work us into his and our busy schedules.  At this moment, Larry is getting a tooth extracted.  I asked him if he wanted to keep his tooth and put it under his pillow for the tooth fairy to come and collect.  He just gave me that look and grinned.  I threatened to take away his beloved candy stash from him.  Anyway, he came out smiling...one tooth less.  HA!  At 9:00 AM , it was my turn.  I needed two crowns that I have been trying to get done for the past two years.  What a good feeling it was to get caught up on our dental work finally!

Just seeing these luscious corn fields all over definitely whet our appetite for a good meal of corn-on-the-cob!Rev. Gundar Lamberts

We had another two weeks filled to the max.  We wove back and forth between Iowa, South Dakota and Minnesota.  We returned to minister in Harlan, IA, on August 3rd at the Harlan Baptist Church with Pastor Gundar Lamberts.  What a sweet-spirited pastor!  We had a great morning service with several decisions for Christ.

Pastor Lamberts shared the following about the rally:

Harlan, IA altar call

"Praise God for the rally at First Baptist Church of Harlan.  We had six first time commitments to Christ and one rededication, along with many others that were touched by the power of the Holy Spirit.  There is no doubt that God's anointing is on Larry and Gloria.    I highly recommend their ministry."

Our partner friends, Roger and Bev Sorensen, of Harlan, were instrumental in bringingRoger & Bev Sorensen our ministry back to the area.  They said, "We really enjoy your ministry.  It is always a thrill to see so many people come to Christ.  It was so great to have you come back to minister in Harlan as every time you come, people are saved.!"  Thank you!  Thank you, Roger and Bev, also for your great hospitality and the delicious dinner at your home.

Rev. Dennis & Joan NilesFrom Harlan, we traveled over to Palmer, IA, to the Faith Lutheran Church pastored by our long-time friends, Pastor Dennis and Joan Niles.  Joan prepared us a home-cooked meal of BBQ ribs, mashed potatoes,  fresh corn-on-the-cob and don't forget all the trimmings.  Oh were we hungry for corn after passing by all the Iowa cornfields!  Our granddaughter, Myanna, said, "Oh, Grandma!  I love these home-cooked meals.  You are lucky to get all that good food!"  I agreed with her!  There is nothing like home-cooking.  What a treat, and an exciting evening of music and ministry!

"The relaxed style of Larry and Gloria make it easy for people to respond to the gospel.  Their ministry is definitly a blessing to the church...the saints were encouraged, the lost were reached, and those who were waiveringPalmer, IA altar call received new strength.  Again, Joan and I appreciate the ministry of the evangelist and Larry and Gloria establish a clear standard in that gift area.  We pray God will give them wonderful open doors and hungry hearts."

John & Connie Elkin

As it is a large country church, it drew many of our friends from the surrounding communities.  It was wonderful to see our partner friends, Rev. John & Connie Elkin, and Joan Foster Hall from Fort Dodge, IA.  Joan was like a mom to us during our early years of ministry Joan Foster Hall and Gloriaon the road.  She told us, "I had forgotten how good your ministry was.  I'm so glad I came.  It was great."

Myanna and Macy

We took Myanna back to Albert Lea, MN, to meet her Mommy last Friday night.  What a void we feel after having her with us for over two months.  She had a good time swimming with her new friend, Macy Sorensen.

Now to Sunday...we ministered at Celebration First Assembly of God in Waterloo, IA, with Pastor Don and Alice Cox.  They have been so special to us through the years.  WeRev. Don & Alice Cox have known them since....well...since Larry and I were newlyweds.  Each time we come, they take time to mentor us.  What a spiritual uplift it is!  Don's wife, Alice, now has to be on kidney dialysis.  Please keep her in your prayers.

Pastor Cox shared the following about our time together:

"Larry and Gloria Lundstrom minister together with a great anointing on their music and their message.  There is always a large altar response.  You will never be sorry to have them minister at your church.  We have had them for meetings several times and each time we have been tremendously blessed."

Waterloo, IA altar call One of the most outstanding young youth ministers that we have ever met is Pastor Cox's grandson, Dustin, who is on staff at Celebration.  What a joy it was working with him!

"God has given Larry and Gloria Lundstrom a unique ministry that is relevant and effective in reaching all ages.  Many ministries are geared to a certain age group, but the Lundstroms comeDustin Cox with a ministry that the whole family enjoys.  In a time when many ministries are hollow, powerless and lack an urgency to reach the Lost, it is so refreshing to hear their simple message, see their transparency and sense their excitement as they bring people to Christ."

Dustin Cox

Youth Director

Another gem that we have been blessed to work with is Pastor Earl Warstler.  He is the Associate Pastor at Earl WarstlerCelebration.  He shared this:

"I have been acquainted with the Lundstrom's for nearly 50 years.  I love to call them the 'Happy Lundstrom's'.  Their ministry in music is not entertainment but is a demonstration of the power of the Holy Spirit.  They truly have a passion for souls."

As we were speaking of corn earlier, I saw an interview on a TV station from Des Moines a couple of nights ago where they interviewed a man who enters his prime cornstalk that he grows every year.  He has won the prize fourteen times and has only lostNow that's some tall corn! twice.  His cornstalk measured over 14 ½ feet tall.  There are only a handful of people that enter this contest.  What impressed me were the comments the other participants said about the winner.  The comments went something like this, "This man almost always wins the prize, but we are happy for him.  He is such an unselfish person.  He tells us which seed company he orders from, which corn seed he buys, how he plants and pampers it and encourages all of us to give it a try.  Our corn isn't quite as tall as his yet, but with his guidance, ours are getting closer to prizewinners too."  What a spiritual application we can glean from this.

When, we, as Christians, get saved (which is the seed), we are not to keep the message to ourselves and gloat in it, but graciously and unselfishly, we are to share it with others.  We are to offer them the information (the Bible and gift of salvation) and help guide them grow in the Lord.  The Lord instructs us to plant spiritual seeds, invest in the unsaved, pray and love them into the Kingdom. "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you."  Matthew 28:19

It has been great visiting with you once again.  Take the opportunity to share the seed with someone who needs Christ!  God's blessings on you!

Gloria

Late one night, a burglar broke into a house he thought was empty.  He tiptoed through the living room but suddenly he froze in his tracks when he heard a loud voice say:

"Jesus is watching you!" Silence returned to the house, so the burglar crept forward again.  "Jesus is watching you," the voice boomed again.

The burglar stopped dead again.  He was frightened.  Frantically, he looked all around.  In a dark corner, he spotted a bird cage and in the cage was a parrot.  He asked the parrot, "Was that you who said Jesus is watching me?"

"Yes," said the parrot.  The burglar breathed a sigh of relief, and asked the parrot, "What's your name?"

"Clarence," said the bird.  "That's a dumb name for a parrot," sneered the burglar.  "What idiot name you Clarence?"  The parrot replied, "The same idiot who named the Rottweiller Jesus."

RECIPE

This scrumptious recipe was given to us by Pastor Earl Warstler from Celebration First Assembly of God from Waterloo, IA.

Victorian House Corn

1 20 oz bag of frozen corn

4 Tbsp butter

8 oz cream cheese

5 Tbsp water

3 Tbsp sugar

Seasoning to taste

Combine all ingredients in crock pot.  Cook on high for one hour.  Turn to low and cook for four hours.  Stir frequently to keep cheese from scorching.

HOUSEHOLD HINT

Spicy carrots - Try ginger, cloves or nutmeg sprinkled on buttered sliced carrots for a great new taste.

Have you ever heard the old phrase, "Up a Crick without a paddle"? In simple words, it means you are in...deep trouble, and there is no way out. I'm sure we've all been there dozens of times in our lifetime. I was reminded of this statement again this past week. Larry had the opportunity to go fishing for 5 days way up in Ontario, Canada. He went fishing with his friends, Danny and Wendy Meis and Pastor Alan Skroch. Alan had purchased a fantastic fishing boat off of an estate sale and pulled it several hundred miles up to Canadian waters. It was doing fine...not great...but fine. One day, they went up to Canadian waters, about 8 miles away, and the boat motor stopped. Long story short...no cell phone, and hours away from the comfort of the shore and the cabin, and the realization that they have to get back there somehow. Unbelievably...Ripley's believe it or not...they had one oar.

Long story short...no cell phone, and hours away from the comfort of the shore and the cabin, andA paddle in a pinch! Whatever works! the realization that they have to get back there somehow. Unbelievably...Ripley's believe it or not...they had one oar. Yes, I said ONE oar. Someone had forgotten to put the second oar in the boat. Need I tell you they were in trouble? You'll never get anywhere with one oar, you'll just go in circles. Thank God for those men with creative minds! Alan took his huge fishing net, and crisscrossed the net with bungicords. That was supposed to be the second oar (chuckle). Thus began the five hour trek back to land. Well, thankfully they made it back okay, but they will all tell you they definitely had sore arm muscles. Of course, you know me, I chuckled because it wasn't happening to me. That experience was an unexpected, added adventure for them.

In spite of the trouble...a great catch was made! This true story so reminded me of life in general. How many times are we just sailing through life and it seems the motor of our life stalls, or something happens to stop us. I call those "bumps" in life. When Plan #1 falls apart, we rush into Plan #2. Often times it appears that we are going in circles, not making any headway. It's like having only one oar. In a panic we cry out to God, thankfully he throws us an "oar" of faith or perseverance to help us to keep paddling on. In the natural there are moments that it doesn't seem like we'll make it...but if we hold onto God's promises in His word...we eventually come through. Maybe not the way we planned, and maybe not without scars or disappointments, but we make it!

The Psalmist David continually cried out for help. In Psalm 40 verse 1, David said, "I waited patiently for the Lord; and He inclined unto me and heard my cry." I am so thankful that God hears our prayers. He cares about you and me and He helps us to paddle back to safety.

Danny & Wendy Meis with their family

We want to thank Tom, Danny, Wendy and Allen for making it possible for Larry to enjoy a few days fishing.  We both deeply appreciated it!  Boy...was the fish every tasty!!!

They are a vivacious couple who just moved to Fergus Falls to accept the pastorate there. I know they'll do great.     They shared the following regarding our time of ministry at Abundant Life Assembly of God:

"Thank you for your recent ministry here in Fergus Falls.  It is exciting to see that there are ministries that emphasize souls and how important they are to the kingdom of God.  We appreciated your servant spirit and your constant uplifting of Jesus as Savior and Lord.  Your message was humorous and to the point!"

Duane and Annette Bye

Just before the Sunday morning service, Duane and Annette Bye approached me, "Gloria, my husband, Duane, gave his heart to Christ at Wahpeton, ND in May 1995 when you ministered there. Our lives have been totally changed. Thank you, thank you!"

A minister waited in line to have his car filled with gas just before a long holiday weekend. The attendant worked quickly, but there were many cars ahead of him. Finally, the attendant motioned him toward a vacant pump.
'Reverend,' said the young man, 'I'm so sorry about the delay. It seems as if everyone waits until the last minute to get ready for a long trip.'
The minister chuckled, 'I know what you mean. It's the same in my business.'

Sunday after church, a Mom asked her very young daughter what the lesson was about.

The daughter answered, 'Don't be scared, you'll get your quilt.'
Needless to say, the Mom was perplexed. Later in the day, the pastor stopped by for tea and the Mom asked him what that morning's Sunday school lesson was about.

He said 'Be not afraid, thy comforter is coming.'

Can it really be mid-July already? It seems like everything goes so fast I can hardly catch my breath. We were privileged to be able to attend my family reunion on the Brooks' side. As many of you know, I am a middle child. I have five brothers older and five brothers younger. One brother has gone on to be with the Lord which leaves nine wonderful brothers, mates, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. There are a total of 103 living in my immediate family and only 23 of them were unable to make it to the reunion this year.

My dear mother was in a state of ecstasy to have so many of All the Brooks and their mates (Bill and Marita had to leave early)our family together in one place. I continually remind my nine brothers that I truly am their "favorite" sister. Of course they chuckle and say, "Yea...because you are our only sister." I am so thankful that we have a wonderful relationship amongst all of us siblings. Mom has always stressed peace in our family and to honor and respect one another.

Last Sunday morning, we honored our mother. My brother, Wes, reminded us as to A couple look-a-likes at the reunion: Tanya and Hailiehow Mom handled our sibling squabbles. If we got in a disagreement or fight, she would pull us both by the nape of the neck, put us face to face, and quietly, but firmly command, "Say, I'm sorry." Ewww! That was so frustrating! That was the last thing we wanted to say, but she made us do it anyway. We ground out the words, "I'm sorry" to each other. She would then command, "Now give him/her a kiss on the cheek." This was a punishment worse than getting a spanking. Very unwillingly, as she held us firmly in place by our shirt collar, we reluctantly gave each other the fateful kiss. We then gave each other a look that emphasized, "No sale!", but as soon as our eyes met, we would break out in laughter! In just moments, we were friends again until the next squabble arose. HA! Ohhh...the lessons we learned.

Four Generations

Anyway, it was an exhilarating two days filled with stories, laughter, cheers and tears for those of the Brooks' family that have gone on to heaven. I am so thankful that Mom always made sure that we had a family reunion every two years along with the various family events in-between. Families are forever so we should treasure and protect our relationships!

Look at all those children!

"Behold, children are a heritage of the Lord." As you look at this photo with all of the children, can you imagine how much fun it was for Larry to corral them all together for this photo to be taken? And to think...there were an additional 23 that were unable to make it....where would Larry have put them? Someone jokingly hollered out in the midst of that moment, "No one can have anymore children; they won't fit in the picture!" Of course, reality is, with all of the young couples, there will be many, many more children. Families are so fun!

The Sunday before the reunion, July 6th, we ministered at Evangel Assembly of God in Eau Claire, WI, with Pastor and Mrs. Steven Brandt. God touched many lives.

"It was such a joy to have Larry and Gloria Lundstrum with us on Sunday, July 6th. They are Rev. & Mrs. Steven Brandtalways encouraging, challenging, and uplifting to the Body of Christ.

We had several who were ministered to in a beautiful way, as well as decisions and recommitments that were made to Christ. That's what it's all about, and that's what Larry and Gloria are all about.

If you are looking for a great couple with great hearts, who are concerned about ministry give them a call, and you will be glad that you did."

Pastor Steven Brandt

Before the service on Sunday morning, we packed out of the Hampton Inn. In the midst of trying to load suitcases, hanging clothes, and all the other items we could fit into our arms, Larry momentarily placed his bible on top of the Suburban while he opened up the doors. You guessed it! We got to the church and immediately hurried inside. When the service was about to start, Larry turned to me and said, "Do you have my bible?" I looked around, "No, I don't have it. Don't you?" He panicked, "I must have left it in the Suburban." He ran out to the parking lot and checked the Suburban, but he returned with no bible in hand. I said, "Larry, you had your bible in your hand when you left the hotel. I know I saw it when you went out to the Suburban." He twitched his face as apprehension came and groaned, "Oh no...I think I placed it on the roof of the Suburban to open the door. I am sure we just took off and only the Lord knows where it's at now." I felt so badly about him losing his "Sword" with all of his notes and reflections in it. I tried to encourage him, "Honey, hopefully, if there is anything left of it, wherever it fell off or if anyone finds it, let's pray that person has the heart to send it back." Years ago, I had written in his bible, "If lost, please return to (our address). We would deeply appreciate it." We gave the problem of the lost bible to the Lord and Larry borrowed my bible for the service.

Two days later, Larry received a phone call from Mike Taylor who lives in Eau Claire, WI. He proceeded to tell Larry who he was and that he knew of the Lundstroms. He said he had found a bible on a bridge lying next to a dead deer. I heard Larry chuckle at that on the phone. Mike assured us he would send it to us. I would have loved to have had a picture of where the bible had ended up. That would have been hilarious!

What a sense of humor God has...and He knows the desires of our heart. He tells us to ask and you shall receive. We prayed and He used Mike Taylor to answer our prayer. Aren't you glad that God is concerned about ALL things...big or small. I sure am!

We will talk again in a couple weeks. Enjoy His blessings!Ken & Joyce Hovland

P.S. During these summer months as we have been traveling in and out of our home, we have had opportunities to visit with some friends who have come to the area. It was nice to see our friends and partners, Ken and Joyce Hovland, from San Diego, CA. They are originally from the Sisseton area. They share the same anniversary date as we do!

Is My Time Up?

A 45 year old woman had a heart attack and was taken to the hospital. While on the operating table she had a near death experience.

Seeing God she asked, "Is my time up?"

God said, "No, you have another 43 years, 2 months and 8 days live."

Upon recovery, the woman decided to stay in the hospital and have a face-lift, liposuction, and a tummy tuck. She even had someone come in and change her hair color and brighten her teeth! Since she had so much more time to live, she figured she might as well make the most of it. After her last operation, she was released from the hospital. While crossing the street on her way home, she was killed by an ambulance.

Arriving in front of God, she demanded, "I thought you said I had another 43 years? Why didn't you pull me from out of the path of the ambulance?"

God replied, "I didn't recognize you."

Hi! I can hardly comprehend that this weekend marks the 4th of July already! It seems like June just whizzed by. When I think of Independence Day, I am reminded and am so grateful that we can still wake up in a free America. That is something that we can never take for granted because it seems as though we are losing freedoms one by one with the elections coming soon in November, we really need to seek God, pray for America and its leaders, and take a stand for righteousness.

Again, it has been an eventful two weeks. On June 21st, we drove to Glenwood, MN, to minister at the Minnewaska Assembly of God.

It was wonderful being back with Pastor Mark Geselle and his family. Each of them is so very special, and it is always a joy to spend time with them.

The altar call at Minnewaska Assembly of God

On Sunday morning, several partners and friends of our ministry who were vacationing on one of Minnesota's beautiful 10,000 lakes took time out of their busy schedules and joined us for the Sunday morning service. We had a precious altar call.

What a surprise it was to see Scott and Nancy Ward from Missoula, Montana, attend. They have served as the wScott and Nancy Ward, Missoula, MTorship leaders at Christian Life Center for nearly twelve years. Back in the mid-80's, Scott and Nancy, both single at the time, traveled with us in ministry on the road. Scott ran sound, sang and drove bus. Nancy sang and did whatever needed to be done. They went on to be married after they left Lundstrom Ministries. We are so proud of them and their ministry. I chuckled at what Nancy said, "Wow...you guys are ageless!" Whatever that means! HA! She continued, "You guys have been so faithful to stay out there all of these years touching lives. We had a lot of great memories being with your ministry."Arvid & Jan Liebe and Family

Relatives through marriage, Arvid and Jan Liebe, of Milbank, SD, and several of their family were also vacationing in the area and took time to attend the service. Arvid is the brother to my precious sister-in-law, Marvelyn, who passed away a couple of months ago. I feel it is not only great but important to stay in touch with the family even after the death of a loved one.

It is always a delight to have young families at our services...as was the case of Tim and Diane Riley and their daughter from Glenwood. Tim is involved in law enforcement in Glenwood. We desperately need Godly men and women who can make grTim & Diane Riley and their daughtereat impact in our communities. Tim was also a great help with helping set up and tear down at the park. This couple had the following comments regarding the service:

Larry and Gloria,

It was such a pleasure having the Lundstrom's and their adorable granddaughter visit Glenwood. Sitting by beautiful lake Minnewaska watching the sunset and listening to foot tapping music about Christ and all he has to offer us was truly amazing.  The beauty the Lord has given us was magnified that evening with beautiful voices, humor, truths, scripture and the watercolored sky as the sun set. God's creations are perfect!

Thank you for sharing.

 Your Friends in Christ,

Tim and Diane Riley

Myanna and Emily...cute friends

On Sunday night, we held a service at the park by the lake...it was a beautiful and unforgettable summer evening as the sun set across the lake.

Our granddaughter, Myanna, is now back with us on the road for a few weeks. She was so happy to have her friend, Emily Larson, from Alexandria with her. They had a great time together.

Pastor Mark shared the following about our time of ministry with them:

"Once again we had a great time with Larry and Gloria ministering in Glenwood. In our morning service, the Lord touched lives as five people responded to the altar call. As Larry and Gloria sang and shared in our 'Praise in the Park' concert, people were ministered to and challenged in their Pastor Mark Geselle and his precious familywalk with the Lord. It was a beautiful evening and a wonderful day that the Lord blessed us with.  We so appreciate Larry and Gloria and their heart to reach the lost and be a blessing to the Body of Christ. On a personal note, our family is always blessed by the time we get to spend with Larry and Gloria. Thanks again for coming to Glenwood!"

Larry, Jack Trosen, and Pastor Jeff HeislerLast weekend, we were invited to minister at the Wadena Evangelical Church in Wadena, MN, with Pastor Jeff Heisler. I remember being in Wadena a few weeks after Larry and I were married in November 1965. Wow..my memory still works! Yea for me! We have returned several times through the years.

Jack and Grayce Trosen, who worked with the Lundstrom Ministries in Sisseton, SD, for several years were instrumental in bringing us into Wadena. Jack was Crusade and Scheduling Coordinator for the Lowell Lundstrom Ministries when we all traveled together. On Saturday, June 28th, which was Larry's 65th birthday, Jack and Grayce had us over for a mouth-watering, home-cooked, delicious roast beef dinner with all of the Jack & Grayce Trosentrimmings including a yummy birthday cake. That was so kind of them! Jack said the following about our time of ministry in Wadena:

"It was so great being with Larry and Gloria once again! First, it was a delight to hear some of the ol' Lundstrom songs. They do such a great job. Secondly, it was so wonderful to see the enthusiasm that Larry and Gloria have in sharing the Gospel message and seeing people saved. Also, with our past history, we enjoyed greatly having the opportunity to 'catch up' after all these years. But, most of all, it was absolutely rewarding to see all of those that responded to the Gospel. We are so excited about all of those that made commitments to Christ. Thanks for coming, Larry and Gloria!"

Jack Trosen

The altar call at Wadena, MNPastor Jeff has a burning desire to reach the lost for Christ. Many churches and pastors express that they want to reach the lost...but often it doesn't seem to get much further than the expression. Pastor Jeff set a goal for 2008 to reach 24 people for Christ: his heart is to reach the unchurched and unsaved, not transplants from another church As of last Sunday, before we came, he had 18 people make commitments, and he was believing God for another 6 by the end of the year in order to reach his goal. Then, Jeff said, "It is only June 29th and we have almost reached our goal. There is still a half a year left. We need to believe for a lot more!". God is definitely pouring out His blessings and giving Pastor Jeff the desire of his heart. As you can see by the altar response in the photo, God drew many who were searching and hungry for Him.

Pastor Jeff does something extra-special that I have never seen before. Each time someone makes a commitment to Christ, he buys a special candle and places it withing a glass globe. The glass globe has their name etched on it along with the date they received Christ. He places them on the altar and lights them every Sunday morning. He has 18 candles burning representing the 18 who have given their lives to Christ this year thus far. What a moving sight! It is a great testimony and also a great motivation to bring in the lost so they might be saved. At the end of this year, he will present each convert this beautiful candle as a symbol and reminder of their commitment to Christ. He will be placing many more on the altar as a result of Sunday's altar call.

I love the verse in Matthew 5:14-15 (NIV) that states, "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house."

We were so honored to have William Guelker form Staples, MN, with us. Bill is now 83 years old and has been a partner of our ministry for many years. He is a former Agricultural teacher. After the service, Bill said, "I have been a partner with your ministry for years now, and I am always happy to see the testimonies in the newsletter of people coming to Christ." He smiled as he said, "Wasn't that a big wonderful altar call this morning?" I responded, "Yes, Bill...and because of your prayers and support, you have a reward in each one who came to Christ." Bill acknowledged, "Yes, I will, won't I." Matthew 10:41 (NIV) states, "Anyone who receives a prophet because his is a prophet will receive a prophet's reward..." Larry and I can't save anyone; it is the Holy Spirit who draws. It is through the prayers and support of our friends and partners that enable the results and responses we see at the altar.

We pray that you will have a wonderful 4th of July weekend. We ask that you would take time to thank God for a free America where we can still attend church, read the Bible and openly talk about Jesus. Thank God, also, for setting you free and giving you life eternal. That's a real celebration!

Gloria

Only in America... .can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance.

Only in America... are there handicap parking places in front of a skating rink.

Only in America... do drugstores make the sick walk all the way to the back of the store to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front.

Only in America... do people order double cheese burgers, large fries, and a diet Coke.

Only in America... do banks leave both doors to the vault open and then chain the pens to the counters.

Only in America... do we leave cars worth thousands of dollars in the driveway and put our useless junk in the garage.

Only in America... do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place.

Only in America... do we buy hot dogs in packages of ten and buns in packages of eight.

Only in America... do we use the word 'politics' to describe the process so well: Poli' in Latin meaning 'many' and 'tics' meaning 'bloodsucking creatures'.

Greetings from the Heartland! June has been another action-packed month. Larry reaches an exciting milestone on June 28th...my sweetheart hubby turns 65 years old. Yeah for Medicare and AARP- ha! I can hardly believe it. It seems like just yesterday we were teens making eyes at each other. Larry and I were married when we were 21 and 22 years of age. Our first year of marriage went by slowly and was filled with many challenges...each year since has raced by like speeding bullets. I remember thinking that anyone 25 years old was...old, 35 years of age was... older, 45 years old was... ancient, and 55 years and up was... over the hill - HA! So where does that put us now!! Please be kind with your thoughts!

I'm proud of my "trench-mate"; he gave his heart to Christ when he was almost 13 years old. He made a decision to serve Christ for the rest of his life. As his wife, I can truly tell you that he's completely sold out for souls in ministry. If you were to ask our children what their dad loves most of all, next to God and them, without a hesitation they would say, "Soul-winning. Whoever dad meets, The old Lundstrom teamno matter what walk of life, age or race, he will take out 3 coins and share the simple plan of salvation - and 9 out of 10 times will lead that person to Christ." I love his heart that is sold out for Christ. Larry has been on the road for 47 years (he was on the road four years before we got married in 1965), and his love and zeal for ministry is as fresh and fiery today as when he left for ministry on the road in 1961 with his brother Lowell and Lowell's wife Connie.

I'm so thankful that God brought Larry and me together so we could take part in winning thousands to Christ. We cherish our calling.

If you've appreciated Larry's dedication to ministry or friendship through the years, would you be so kind as to take a couple minutes and email Larry at llmin@venturecomm.net to wish him a happy 65th birthday?

His birthday isn't until the 28th, but please send the email today, and I will get them printed out to give all of them to him on his birthday.

I know that would mean so much to him. Your words will cheer him

on through another year of soul-winning.

Rev. Dave & Rose BennettOn June 8th, we had the honor and privilege to minister at New Life Assembly of God in Ellendale, North Dakota. The church meets in the Trinity Bible college chapel. We had a wonderful service. Our hosts were Pastor Dave Bennett, his wife Rose, and Dr. Lavonne Larson.  Pastor Dave is an Evangelism teacher at the college, along with holding many other positions. After the service he told us, "Larry and Gloria, when you gave the altar call, I bowed my head and thought, 'Wow Lord, that was a great message on soul-winning, we needed to hear that.'" Then added, "When I looked up and saw all the people who responded to the altar call...I almost fell out of my chair! It was really great." Among all those who made decisions for Christ, was aAltar call at Ellendale, ND couple that David and Rose have been praying for and loving on for several months. Praise the Lord!

Allow me to reminisce a bit. I attended Trinity Bible College when it was Hub City Bible Institute in Aberdeen, South Dakota way back in 1962-63. Yes...I know that's a long time ago...but rejoice with me that I can still remember back that far! During that time, I was part of a girls trio that traveled and sang, representing the bible school. It was at Hub City Bible Institute that I received my training for ministry. You'd Hub City Triohave to agree "they musta' done me well", as I'm still out here on the road in ministry after 42 ½ years. We had great teachers who were excited about preparing us for ministry. I am ever-indebted to them.

One of my roommates, way back then, was Lavonne Larson, from Hettinger, North Dakota. She is now Dr. Lavonne Larson, and has been on staff at the college for nearly 30 years - WOW, our hats go off to her! Her heart beat is for missions and she's lead a lot of missions trips through the years with the students. It was great seeing her again.  She had these comments about our time Gloria and Lavonnethere,

"Thank you so much for your recent ministry here at New Life Assembly of God in Ellendale, ND.  It was great to see you again and your service was such an encouragement to all of us.  Several from the congregation have commented to me regarding the blessing you were and how the Lord directed you to say meaningful things that were so uplifting and helpful.  Wishing you the God's best in your travels and summer ministry."

-Dr. Lavonne F. Larson,

Professor, Trinity Bible College

The last couple of weeks we've been neck-deep in office catch up. We're desperately trying to take a box or file at a time and filter through papers, etc. that go way back to 1982, when we started Larry Lundstrom Ministries. Talk about archives...no, talk about stuff...I mean outdated stuff! When you are on the road 10 ½ -11 months out of the year and have been for over 42 years...you guessed it - stuff piles up.

Last Saturday, we drove to Sioux Falls, SD to minister on Father's Day with another great pastor, Dan and Phyllis Kuno. They are doing a great job at Calvary Assembly Some visitors at the Father's Day serviceof God. Their love for God and souls reverberate through them. They have a wonderful congregation and are making a difference in the Kingdom.

Be as it was Father's Day, we focused on the "Family". Larry gave a stirring, heart-searching sermon. With the Family under attack we are doing all we can do to encourage and build the relationships in a family (husband-wife, father-daughter, mother-son, etc.).  Here is what Pastor Kuno shared about our time there,

"I wholeheartedly recommend the ministry of Rev. Dan & Phyllis KunoEvangelists Larry and Gloria Lundstrom. Their ministry here at Calvary Assembly of God Church was a tremendous blessing to our people as they shared both in music and the Word of God with conviction and boldness, yet with a spirit of humility.

I sensed a wonderful integrity about them that not only showed while they were ministering to the congregation, but also in private conversations as well. They have a genuine love for souls, and a desire to see people won into the Kingdom of God.

It is often difficult to find ministries of this caliber today. Their ministry was very effective with the four conversions we experienced on Father's Day."

In Christ,
Pastor Dan Kuno

Don & Vicky Hagen

It was a joy to see Don and Vicky Hagen, dear friends of ours, who used to live in Sisseton, our hometown. When our children where teenagers, Don and Vicky invited them over to their home to hang-out with their children. Our girls so respect and love them. Don and Vicky made a great impact on their lives. We are grateful to them.

Ken & Marlene Hanson with their family

Among other visitors last Sunday, was Ken and Marlene Hanson from Gayville, SD. They told us that their wish for Father's Day was that their daughter and son-in-law from Fairbault, Minnesota could join them for the day and attend Larry and Gloria's services. It was a great family affair for them.

Isaac Smith

Pastor Kuno's worship leader, Isaac Smith, was a blessing to us. He helped us load in and set up. He definitely has a servants' heart and we enjoyed getting to know him and feel his heart beat for evangelism and worship.

"Thanks so much for your ministry to our church and community this past Father's Day. It was a perfect day of encouragement and blessing for our congregation. The visitors really enjoyed the service and our members were edified and left after service with new zeal. It was great to spend time together and the people of Calvary Assembly are grateful. Thanks for the music and word of God!"

We were also able to see Rev. and Mrs. Jameson at the service at Calvary A/G in Sioux Falls.  We have known them for many years, as they had pastored at Calvary years back.

It was great to see Randy and Juli Huber, friends and partners of this ministry. They attend Calvary A/G. Larry and I have always appreciated their heart beat for the lost, their ministry ofRandy & Juli Huber with family helps, and that they are always in the middle of what God is doing - what a great blessing. Randy and Juli's daughter, and her husband drove back from the Milwaukee area on Father's Day. They attend my brother, Pastor Jerry Brook's church in Oak Creek, WI. I had to chuckle because she said to me,

"We sure hated to miss Father's Day service at your brother's church in Oak Creek. We drove all the way back here to Sioux Falls, and here was Pastor Brook's sister, Gloria, ministering with her husband at Calvary - kind of a "family thing" huh? We really enjoyed the service."

Isn't the family of God great? You are family to us. All of you that follow us as we journal about our travels on the road are a blessing to us. We count on your prayers to keep us going. Thanks for your friendship. Have a great June!

Gloria

The Dog days of Summer...

CHUCKLE

On her 41st birthday, a woman received an extravagantly expensive wrinkle-removing cream from her teenage daughter.

"And what did she give you last year?" A friend inquired of the mom.

Without hesitation, she replied, "The wrinkles!"

A Psalm of Summer

Now it came to pass that Spring turned to Summer again. God's people raised their voices and said: "Recreation is my shepherd, I shall not stay home; he maketh me to lie down in a sleeping bag; he leadeth me down the interstate each weekend. He restoreth my suntan; he leadeth me to state parks for comfort's sake. Even though I stray on the Lord's Day, I will fear no reprimand, for thou art with me; my rod and reel they comfort me. I anointest my skin with oil, my gas tank runneth dry; surely my trailer shall follow me all the weekends of this summer, and I shall return to the House of the Lord this fall! But then it is hunting season and that's another Psalm.

RECIPE

Brunch Eggs

½ package stuffing mix

½ cup hot water

½ cup diced ham or bacon

Place stuffing mix in a 7x11 pan. Pour hot water over mix. Sprinkle with ham or bacon. Break eggs onto mixture and top with seasoned salt and grated cheese. Bake at 425 for 12 minutes.

HOUSEHOLD HINT

Even a plant that doesn't need repotting should have its soil replenished yearly. To do so, remove the top 2-4 inches of soil with a fork; avoid harming fragile feeder roots. Refill with fresh soil mixed with slow-release fertilizer, and, if desired, top with grit.

Hello from Sisseton! I am nestled up in my chair as I write this "On the Road" update. I guess, this time, I could rename it the "In My Chair" update. HA! The weather that we are experiencing is playing mind games with me (at this stage in my life, it doesn't take all that much!). As I sat down in my chair I had to throw a blanket over me to keep warm. The temperatures were in the 80's and yesterday they tumbled down into the low 50's. As the old saying goes, "If you don't like the weather, stick around a few hours, it will change...but I'm not sure you will like that either." So true! Even the birds are slightly confused.

They are not sure if they should continue to nest or take off to fly south for the winter.

For several weeks, we are basing out of our home in Sisseton driving out for weekend services. We feel the necessity to take care of some business in our home office and ministry office to catch up on many delayed projects: wade through forgotten files, give attention to items that have needed it, along with whatever other demands arise. I guess you would call it "Major Spring Cleaning"!

Rev. Cliff & Mary Sheldon

We had the privilege of returning to minister at Christian Life Assembly of God in Watertown, SD, with Pastor Cliff & Mary Sheldon. They are such a precious couple and are doing a tremendous job. They shared the following about the service:

"Thank you once again for coming and ministering so effectively. We appreciate your coming along side of us and advancing the Kingdom of God in the hearts of people."

Pastor Cliff Sheldon

Christian Life A/G

Watertown, SD

We also had the honor of ministering in our home church, Family Life Assembly of Pastor Vern & Mary DonnellGod, in Sisseton. It is always a joy to connect with our friends and family. This time our ministry took place at the same time as graduation and Memorial Day weekend. With this in mind, Larry built his sermon around the question, "What is your belief system?". He addressed the graduates and since it was Memorial Day weekend, he also honored those that had "graduated" from this world into their heavenly home.

Altar call at Family Life A/G, Sisseton, SD

We are thrilled to have such a wonderful pastor and his wife at our home church.  He "feeds" us well when we come home!

The Friday before, two of my brothers, along with my mom and I went to the cemetery. We put wreaths on the graves of my dad, grandparents, sister, brother and sister-in-law. As we moved from one grave to the next, we talked and shared about the impact my sister's tombstoneeach one had made on our lives. Then, we noticed many graves with markers that bore the names of believers that had faithfully prayed for Larry and I as young people. They were seniors when we were teenagers. They challenged us through their examples of living godly lives as well as their faith-filled prayers to believe for miracles and answers to prayer. We cherish each one who had a part in our lives...pastors, staff, children's pastors, Sunday school teachers and youth leaders. We were always reminded of Ecclesiastes 12:1, "Remember thy Creator in the days of thy youth." We were taught and encouraged to make a commitment of our lives to Christ while we were young and that God would always be there to direct our steps and pathways of our life. It is because of the prayers of many of these saints and role models that Larry and I are in ministry today. We are grateful to all of those who took time to invest in our lives.

Larry & Donovan

A few days ago, Larry and I had an unexpected surprise. Our son, Donovan, daughter, LaShawn and husband, Liam, informed us that they would be in the Minneapolis area for two days on business. They asked if we were free and if we could come to see them. Are you kidding?! This mother began packing her suitcase, rearranged her work schedule and took off. We hadn't seen them since Christmas.

Birthday girls - LaDawn and I

LaDawn and the children joined us and we were able to spend an afternoon and evening all together. The children had a belated birthday dinner for LaDawn and I.

LaDawn's family

There is just nothing like family. We talked, laughed and enjoyed every minute we were together.

Sitting here...I can see Larry through the window. He is taking a break from his desk

duties to let his brain rest. He is now trying to attack the lawn. He is replanting grass

seed that didn't take last year. He will definitely get his exercise today.

Last week was special for us. Our grandson, 15 ½, got his driver's permit, and of course, he is thrilled to have "the paper". Congratulations, Dante'! LaDawn...you are venturing into a new stage...happy praying to you!

Now...for a chuckle....

The same week that Dante' obtained his permit, I was visiting my mother and just before I left the house she asked if I could break away for a few minutes the next day to take her to get her driver's license renewed. Without hesitation, I agreed to take her. That night at about midnight, I bolted up in bed and exclaimed, "What? What on earth did I agree to? Mom is 92 ½ and is getting a driver's license???" (Not that she isn't capable to be driving, but we do not think it is wise or safe at her age with the traffic she would encounter) Still flabbergasted, I wondered what I had agreed to. The next morning, I called her, "Mom, why do you want a driver's license?" Jokingly I asked, "Do you plan on driving the Senior Citizen Transit Bus?" To which she chuckled, "Oh Missy...don't worry. I'm not getting a driver's license. I am getting an ID card for traveling identification." Whew...was I ever relieved!

She is so full of life and outgoing, but she has a day here and there where her balance is questionable due to her various medications and "young" age. When I came to pick her up I said, "Mom, please take a walking cane to cross the street over to the building." I could tell she wasn't too thrilled with the idea. I continued on, "Mom, you are doing so great. With the unevenness of the ground and sidewalk, we just Mom and Idon't want you to fall. I would feel so terrible and responsible if you ever got hurt." She sweetly complied as she took the cane that my dad once used and away we went. Just as we were about to enter the building, she stopped, looked up at me and firmly commanded, "Missy, you take the cane...I don't want them to think I'm using the cane." I broke out in laughter, "Oh, thanks, Mom. You are 92 ½ and I'm 64 years old and you want them to think it's mine." She just laughed.

And in case you are wondering, in compliance with her wishes, I carried the cane. Now no one can ever say that I didn't mind my own mother! HA!

Well, it is time to say good-bye once again. I pray that you will have a great day and a great week. May you feel God's blessing and His presence in your life.

Gloria

Greetings again from Sisseton! It seems like we are running here and there...I almost meet myself coming and going - ha! I can hardly believe it's late-May and Mother's Day has long passed...but is not forgotten. Our children, LaShawn and her husband Liam, LaDawn and our son Donovan, sent me a beautiful bouquet of flowers. They know I love flowers. Larry also gave me a red rose corsage and they all gave me beautiful Mother's Day cards with heart-touching verses. Often I don't feel I'm worthy of all those "flowery" kind words...but I'll gladly accept them! Often times, while parenting, we feel inadequate in how we're raising our children. We ponder and wonder if we did the right things in the right way. So, I need those verses of love and appreciation to keep me going.

The week of May 4th we ministered in Eagle Bend, Minnesota at Eagle Bend Assembly of God with Pastor Robert Kaumans. What an inspiring pastor! These were his comments regarding our time of ministry in Eagle Bend:

Rev. Robert Kaumans"Wow! Our church is still beaming with excitement and joy at seeing nearly half in attendance on Sunday respond to the altar call, many committing their lives to Christ for the first time.  Thanks Larry and Gloria for your anointed and outstanding Gospel ministry!

As a Pastor, I appreciate so much how Larry and Gloria present the Gospel in such a simple, clear, and relevant way.  Our whole congregation uses this as an opportunity to invite unsaved friends and neighbors to come to church for something special; and it never fails that souls come to Christ when the Lundstroms are here. What an amazing evangelistic opportunity for any church. Praise the Lord!

During the Lundstrom's last visit in our church, in addition to the many children and teens who were saved, there were 8 adults who made first time decisions for Christ. Now, a year later, 6 of those 8 are active members in our church, along with their whole families. Now that is Gospel fruit that will change a whole church!"

Altar call at Eagle Bend A/G

- Rev. Robert Kaumans

Each time we minister at Eagle Bend the altars are filled with people making commitments for Christ, and for many of them it's a first time decision. It's these altar calls and changes that God makes in lives that inspire and challenge us to remember "it's worth the effort" through the traveling with its fatigue... just to see lives changed for all eternity. Thank God for the 42 ½ years that Larry and I have been privileged to travel together and share the simple Gospel message.

Gloria speaking on Mother's Day

On Mother's Day, we were in Moorhead, Minnesota at the River Valley church with Pastor Greggory Thee. During the service, I spoke to the families and mothers, encouraging them to love, give and forgive, and to remember that we are families forever. I ended the service by calling all the mothers forward and then had their children come up to join them and I prayed for each of the families. Those hugs and tears were a touching sight and made for a very emotional time of ministry. Pastor Gregg and Debbie Thee are another great ministry couple who are interested and challenged to build lives - not buildings. They have a deep passion for the Lost.

It's always fun to see friends that we haven't seen in a long time come out and attend our services. It was so special have Russ and Becky Burchill, their son Russ Jr and family, and daughter Sheila, her husband Alan and their children come. We've known them for years and they hold a dear spot in our hearts. She shared the following about the day, Our friends The Burchills

"Hi, Larry and Gloria. It was so good to see you! Samuel is still talking about that funny Grandpa Larry.

I enjoyed your Mother's Day service. It was fun to hear some of the 'oldies, but goodies'.   What I really took away from the service, though, was what you said about mistakes that mothers make, and how we need to 'let it go'. We can't control everything. We can't shield our children from every potential harm.   We can't change the past, but we can make the future better.  As the mother of a 3-year-old and a newborn, that is advice that I can really use.  As I grow older, I see more and more the struggles that parents face, and that we're all just imperfect human beings.

We hope to see you again soon! God bless!

Love, Sheila Cooke and Family

As I'm writing this, the patio door is open, the sun is shining, the birds are singing - oh how I love spring! The weather has been so cold that the trees are just now beginning to bud open and it's nearing the end of May.

Just the other day, the bushes around our home looked like a jungle, budding out of control - I cannot believe they grow so fast. Our friend couldn't make it to help us trim them - so Larry and I took the challenge...we bought a hedge trimmer and with little (or I should say no) knowledge on how to trim, we began to hack away at the bushes. It was a guessing game as to how much to trim. Of course, Larry and I had a lot of laughs. One thing we know for sure - pruning is not our calling! The bushes looked like they got a haircut from a first-time barber student..that's okay, they'll grow out again.

Just as those bushes were out of control, often times our spiritual lives get that way due to lack of spiritual food, discipline, prayer, and Bible study. If we don't make the right spiritual decisions, our lives too begin to grow out of control, spiritually. We tend to get overextended in earthly, material things, thus our lives like those bushes, need to be trimmed and pruned in order to grow healthy in the way they should. In Psalms chapter 51, David cries out to God after he made a massive wrong decision and sinned with Bathsheba, causing life-long consequences. Praise God he cried out for a pardon and asked to be pruned and forgiven of the sins he committed so he could again feel God's presence and have God's blessing on his life. I love verse 10 where he prays, "Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a loyal spirit within me. Do not banish me from your presence, and don't take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation..."

Prayerfully it's your and my prayer that whatever is not of God we will allow to be trimmed or pruned off so we can be a vessel of God and be used for His glory.

Gloria

Greetings from Sisseton! My, was it ever good to see my home after being gone for four months. We ministered in Hawaii, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas.  On our way through Nebraska we were able to stop and see our long-time, dear friends, MarvinUs with Marvin and Mary Arehart and Mary Arehart.

On April 24th we arrived in Wagner, South Dakota. We pulled in just before sunset. The birds were singing, the sun was shining and it was a beautiful 73 degrees outside. Spring had sprung in the great state of South Dakota! We had traveled about 350 miles that day and I was suffering from "seat-itis". I desperately needed to get up and walk, so I pleaded, "Honey, let's go. There's a park over there by that pond; let's go for a quick evening walk." It was one of those breathtaking evenings and we enjoyed a moment while the ducks and geese were playing in the pond. I looked to the south and noticed the sky was getting dark...in a hurry. In a little bit of a panic, I said, "Larry we better hurry over to the church so you can get the motor home plugged in before that storm hits." We rushed back over to motor home, parked at the Wagner Community church. The dark cloud and wall of rain was approaching more quickly than we had expected. Larry was in a hurry, trying to get everything plugged in, when "WHOOSH" a wall of rain coupled with 35 mile-per-hour gusts of wind hit leaving us with zero visibility. One second I could see Larry in the mirror, and the next second I couldn't see him at all! At first I panicked wondering if a gust of wind or tornado took him - but then I remembered it would have to be a HUGE gust of wind to lift 240 pounds...plus what he had just eaten at dinner...to airlift him - HA! I hollered out the window and he didn't answer. Just then, he threw the door open and jumped in the motor home. I was relieved to see that he was okay, but after one look at him I went into a fit of laughter! He looked like he had just been retrieved from falling overboard into a lake. Water was running off him like out of a faucet. It was so funny because it was him and not me - HA!

In snow...up to our necks - HA!Little did we know that was just the beginning. For the next nearly 40 hours, the temp dropped from 73 to 27 degrees and it turned into an old-fashioned, nasty snow blizzard.. We nestled in the motor home all day Friday and waited for the storm to pass. Unfortunately, we had to cancel our Friday night service as there was no travel advised, because of the blowing and drifting snow creating zero visibility. On Saturday, April 26t,h the sun came out and the snow started to melt allowing us to have our Fun and Laughter Marriage Seminar at the Wagner Community church. We had a great evening of sharing with couples about what makes us "tick or ticked" and ended with a session on forgiveness. God did a wonderful work of healing in the lives of the couples who were able to attend.

What a privilege and joy it was to be back with Pastor Glenn and Selby Hofer. They are so sweet. Their hearts beat for the lost and hurting. Several months ago when Pastor Hofer called us and invited Altar call at Wagner Community Churchus to minister, he said, "I believe in your ministry. Every time you and Gloria have come to minister many have come to Christ for the first time, and gotten plugged right into our church as members. We love your soul-winning emphasis." Sunday morning was no exception. Again, when the altar call was given many responded to make decisions for Christ. Praise God!

Rev. Glenn and Selby Hofer

"We were truly blessed to have Larry & Gloria with us at Wagner Community Church last week-end. We want to say thank you to them for their ministry to our church family. Hearts were touched as they shared at the Marriage Enrichment Seminar on Saturday evening, and on Sunday morning and evening we were blessed by their music and as Larry shared from the Word. There were seven 1st time commitments, and four who re-dedicated their lives.  We pray God's blessing on this special couple as they continue to share the good news of the gospel."

 - Pastor Glenn & Selby Hofer

Scott from Wagner Community ChurchIt was a personal encouragement to see Scott, who gave his heart to Christ a couple years ago in our service, and his wife who came to Christ one year ago in a service, actively involved in the church. Every Sunday, Scott does a one-man illustrated sermon or drama as to whatever Pastor is going to preach about. It's great! It thrills Larry and I to see people get saved, walk right into the church, and get actively involved. Scott owns Boom's Family Restaurant in Wagner, SD.

We had a precious service on Sunday night. Larry preached on "The Worth of a Family." We completed the service praying for families and God's blessing on them..

Lewellyn and Wanda Larson

Immediately following the Sunday night service, we sped off to Kiron, IA where we attended the funeral of our dear friend and partner, Lewellyn Larson. When he passed away he was one hour away from turning 81 years old (going on 65!). Lewellyn and his precious wife, Wanda, have joined us on almost every Fun and Fellowship tour we've taken in the past. Everyone loved Lewellyn, his sense of humor, and love that was evident for people.

When I was 8 years old, my pastor, Rev. B.C. Heinze, told me something I'll never forget, "Gloria, the longer you live...the more loved ones you have on the other side." How true. Times like this encourage us to love those we have right now as life is uncertain and fragile.

Last Thursday, May 1st was Mayday. I sneaked out of the house, drove down to the Dairy Queen where I ordered a small Heath Blizzard, put it in a gift bag and raced back to the house. I knocked on the front door and Larry came down to answer it - there I My Larry with his Maybasketstood holding up the gift bag. I announced, "Happy Mayday!" as I set the gift bag by his feet. He picked it up, peeked in, saw the blizzard (he hadn't had one in months due to his "food cop" -me), he grinned that look of "oh yea!" I interrupted his thought by motioning to him and exclaiming, "Hey it's Mayday- you have to chase me and give me a kiss! Come on, let's go!" I turned around and began to walk quickly down the sidewalk and driveway... there was Larry trailing me in stocking feet and gaining ground like a speeding bullet. He grabbed me, swung me around, hugged me and plopped a big kiss on my lips. We both laughed and laughed. Just then a car drove by. Having witnessed the chase and the embrace and I'm sure they thought, "Aren't they too old for all of that?" NEVER...

The 13th chapter of 1 Corinthians is called the Love Chapter. Read it and be refreshed. In essence, for me, it says that if I, Gloria Lundstrom, travel, speak, sing, write articles and books and I don't love my husband I am nothing more than what verse one says - a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. My true love for God will show forth in my love for my husband, children and grandchildren - and as it reaches out to all those around me. Verse 13 says, "But now abide faith hope and love - these three; but the greatest of these is love."

Let's love while we can - someone and everyone needs it.

Gloria

Things My Mother Taught Me

I learned many valuable things from my mother. Here are a few of them:

~Quit doing that with your face; it could stick that way.

~Don't run with those scissors; you could put your eye out.

~Look both ways before crossing the street.

~Eat your vegetables; they're good for you.

~Finish your food; there are millions of people starving overseas.

(A tip: it is not a good thing to reply, "Name one.")

~Don't cry wolf; people won't believe you when it's real.

~Shut the door; you weren't born in the barn.

~And don't slam it.

More importantly, I learned many things by observing her life. Here are some of them:

~People are important.

~People going through trials need encouragement.

~Letting people know you're praying for them and thinking of them is deeply meaningful to them.
