Ahh... let me catch my breath - the last month has felt like the infamous Indy 500 race - so much going on at a neck-breaking pace! Larry and I decided to make a quick trip to Nashville, Tennessee to be with our daughters LaDawn, LaShawn and granddaughter, Myanna for a few days. LaShawn had to have eye surgery and we wanted to be there for her and to be able to drive her back and forth for doctor appointments, etc. LaDawn had a business trip to South Carolina for a couple days, so we were able to be with our granddaughter, Myanna, while her mom was gone. We get to see them so seldom - that it has been so wonderful to be able to help them a bit and enjoy them. We took these two weeks to minister to our own family, and it has been so good.

Ahh... let me catch my breath - the last month has felt like the infamous Indy 500 race - so much going on at a neck-breaking pace!

It was a twelve hundred mile trip by car to Nashville. When we left Sisseton the crops looked wonderful. We drove about 60 miles south and every mile for the next thousand miles the sites of the corn and bean fields, that had literally been scorched by 100 plus temperatures, broke our hearts. The state of Missouri is total disaster. The rivers are down, water is scarce and nothing is green. When we got beyond Louisville, Kentucky and closer to Nashville we were pleased to have the 100 degree temperatures drop to the mid 90s. Nashville has been blessed with some rain in the last few weeks and so we were so fortunate to see the absolutely gorgeous green grass that looked like carpet on the rolling hills, the beautiful flowering bushes, and all the flowers and plants that are breathtaking.

Larry was going to book a couple services on our way to Nashville, coming down and going back, and me being the tough Norwegian that I am, stated, "Larry I always say 'sure honey let's do it'...but this time, I need a mental and physical getaway." I requested, "I - and you - need a break and we...or at least I need to get my battery recharged." He could hear the hint of desperation and tone of my voice and agreed to leave all the equipment at home and take a two week leave. We've not only been able to enjoy and help our granddaughter and daughters, but have had the privilege to visit a great church for two weeks and be ministered to as we sat and were fed spiritually. What an enriching time...and so timely.

This experience reminds me of our car! Hold on...let me explain. We have this nice 2003 car, and it rides beautifully. While preparing to leave on this trip, Larry was packing the suitcase in the trunk, and he chirps, "You know what? It's a long trip; I'm going to throw the portable battery charger in the trunk, just in case we have any problems on the road." He also threw in a few tools. Well, the first 900 miles went smoothly. Then, we came out from the motel and the car wouldn't start. It was 103 degrees out. I groaned, "Oh no..." Larry smiles, showing the dimple in his cheek, "No problem, I threw the portable battery charger in the trunk." Within 5 minutes he had the charger out, hooked it to the battery, got the car started, put the charger back in the trunk and we were on our way. Relieved I laughed, "Wow, you'd think we'd lived on the road a day or two. As always, you are prepared just in case we have a problem, to get us up and going again."

Needless to say, that was not the only time. It happened time and time again for the next two days, until we could get the battery changed.

Due to life...endless challenges, up and downs, our spiritual batteries often lose charge. Thank goodness Larry had a little portable auto charger to get us up and going again while we were traveling. God has also provided us with his portable spiritual charger...the Bible, that we can carry with us wherever we go, whenever we feel down or don't know whether we can get started and make it through the day, we can plug into God's Word and soak in it - which is life to our spirits and it gives us strength, wisdom and knowledge to forge on. "But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint"(Isaiah 40:31). I am so thankful for God's faithfulness, mercy, forgiveness and His love that keeps me going.

Well...anyway, that's my story, and as they say, "I'm sticking to it!"

Larry and my batteries have been charging now for 10 days and we are packing, ready to drive back to South Dakota, repack and head off to Elk River, MN the following weekend for services. We have an exciting full month of ministry in September and we are anxious to go and share the wonderful gospel message.

We appreciate you and your continued prayers for us - have a great week!

God Sent Us A Savior

If our greatest need had been information,
God would have sent us an educator.

If our greatest need had been technology,
God would have sent us a scientist.

If our greatest need had been money,
God would have sent us and economist.

If our greatest need had been pleasure,
God would have sent us an entertainer.

But our greatest need was forgiveness,
So God sent us a Savior.

BBQ Chicken and Spicy Peach Glaze

1 cup peach preserves, or jam

1 large clove garlic, minced (1 teaspoon)

2 tablespoons olive oil

1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon dry mustard

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

1 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

4 chicken breasts, (about 5 pounds), split

4 ripe peaches, cut in half and pitted

Directions

Preheat grill to medium hot. In a medium mixing bowl, combine preserves, garlic, olive oil, soy sauce, dry mustard, cayenne pepper, salt, and black pepper, and mix well to combine.

Sprinkle chicken breasts with additional salt and pepper, and place, skin side down, on the grill. Cook the chicken about 10 minutes on each side before brushing the upturned side with glaze. Continue cooking chicken for another 10 to 12 minutes, turning it every 3 to 5 minutes and brushing each upturned side with glaze every time, until the chicken is cooked through. Move chicken to the oven or a cooler part of grill if it gets too dark before it is cooked through.

Place peach halves on the grill, cut side down, and grill 2 minutes. Turn, and brush the tops with glaze. Grill 3 to 4 minutes more, until the peaches are soft and the cavities fill with juices. Transfer the cooked chicken and peaches to a serving platter.

Hope your August is off to a great start! We are reflecting over the events in the last couple of weeks and wanted to share more testimonies and photos from our latest rallies:

Sunday, July 22nd in Valley City, ND:

"It was great to have you with us in Valley City for a weekend of evangelistic emphasis. It was great to see many come out from different backgrounds and to see young and old alike respond to the Gospel invitation. Next time you are with us we plan to put forth an even greater effort to team up with believers of every background to reach out to our area."

Us with Deb & Doug

Pastor Doug Jones is one of our board members and he and Debbie pastor in Medford, MN. It's always a joy to minister at their church.

"We had prayed and invited, and prayed and invited some more - in preparation for your rally here with us recently at Elevation North! We were in total expectancy of what God would do on Sunday morning! And because of your faithfulness to share the message of salvation straight from God's Word, hearts and lives were changed for eternity. In our small, but growing church family - plus the visitors who came, two came forward to accept Christ for the first time ever, and another four individuals rededicated their lives to the Lord! That's what you call "priceless"! And your encouragement through your music and message touched hearts and brought hope for each of us who, like you, live in this real world with all of its challenges and opportunities! Thank you for coming to Elevation North and blessing us all with your anointed, powerful, pertinent message for this time we are living in. Our prayers will continue to encircle both of you as youkeep on -reaching out to the lost, offering them the pure and simple, yet powerful call to become God's child! You are welcome ANYTIME!"

Attitude is Everything

There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head.

"Well," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today?" So she did and she had a wonderful day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head. "Hmmm," she said, "I think I'll part my hair down the middle today."   So she did and she had a grand day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head. "Well, today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail," she said. So she did and she had a fun, fun day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head. "Yea!" she exclaimed, "I don't have to fix my hair today!"

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Live simply,
Love generously,
Care deeply,
Speak kindly,
Leave the rest to God!

Adventure land...yes, that's how I would describe the past 12 days. Only, it had one ride, the rollercoaster! One moment there was joy, and the next, tears of loss. Larry's brother Lowell Lundstrom passed away on July 20th from complications of Parkinson's. Yes, we knew he was weak and struggling, and was also heartbroken and lonely since his wife and sweetheart, Connie, passed away in December. Whichever way you look at it, it was still a shock when we got that early morning phone call.

Tuesday, July 31st was his farewell and celebration in Sisseton, SD. We stood by his coffin to say our final goodbyes as the funeral director gently closed the lid on the pine box coffin Lowell requested. It was that moment when reality hit home...we will never see him again on his earth! That moment is where our hope in Christ was again defined. The grave is not the end! Lowell is rejoicing in heaven with his wife Connie and enjoying the presence of God.

How many times have you and I been at the gravesite of a friend or family member? This is where the passage in John 14 comes alive, "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.  My Father's house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."

Thank God for the hope beyond the grave! It's exciting to know that Lowell had passed own the soul winning baton in Celebration Church in Lakeville, MN to his daughter Londa two years ago. She carries the same anointing as her father did for soul winning.

Lowell's kids: Lance, Lisa, Londa & LJ

LaShawn, LaDawn, Donovan, Dante and Myanna were home for uncle Lowell's funeral. What joy and comfort they were to us and Lowell's family.

With the funeral and everything that entails, I didn't have time to share the reports of our rallies in South Dakota and Minnesota. The following are some photos and testimonies that highlight the stories, and next week we'll have a couple more:

Sunday, July 15th in Watertown, SD:

Ministering at Christian Life Assembly of God with Rev. Cliff Sheldon and his congregation was a joy - as always!

Amanda Harris from Watertown, SD

"It was wonderful to have Larry and Gloria in Watertown again. They are a couple whose marriage visibly has one heartbeat -souls. There is always an anointing on them that draws people to Jesus!"

Amanda Harris

Savanna from Watertown, SD

"The Lundstroms were a joy to have in our church. They really know how to minister to the young and the old. Many people were touched when they performed."

Savanna Schneider

Shari Jacobson from Watertown, SD

"When you are at a service with Larry & Gloria, it is immediately evident how much they love the Lord and how that love flows through their music and message to those around them. They have a deep desire that all come to that saving knowledge of Jesus as Lord and Savior. They are a beautiful instrument in the Lord's hands."

Shari Jacobson

Mary Sheldon

"Once again we truly enjoyed the ministry of the Lundstroms. They are an authentic couple moving in their gifts to be used by God for the work of the Kingdom of God. Jesus has been faithful to them in their many years together and it shows to everyone around them."

Mary Sheldon

Tuesday, July 17th in Cokato, MN:

Larry and I were privileged to be a part of a Senior's Luncheon through the First Baptist Church as well as minister at an evening service. There were over 240 that attended and several made decisions for Christ.

Seniors Luncheon in Cokato, MN

We want to say a special thanks to our friends, Orville and Laverne Peterson, who helped to bring us in for the Luncheon and evening service in Cokato.

The Peterson family with Orville & Laverne

We want to say thank you to all of you for your concern, love and prayers for our family as we start the transition into life on this earth without Lowell. As always, your support keeps us lifted up and encouraged. Thank you.

It's hard to believe that it's August already. Enjoy these last few weeks of summer and we'll chat again in a couple weeks!

Six-year-old Angie and her four-year-old brother Joel were sitting together during church services. Joel giggled, sang, and talked out loud. Finally, his big sister had enough.

'You're not supposed to talk out loud in church.'

'Why? Who's going to stop me?' Joel asked.

Angie pointed to the back of the church and said, 'See those two men standing by the door? They're hushers.'

It is with deep sadness that we share with you that Larry's brother and my brother-in-law, Lowell Lundstrom, passed away last Friday, July 20th. However, it is also with great joy and celebration that we know he is in heaven with his sweetheart and wife, Connie, who passed away just last December. Lowell had suffered with Parkinson's for years, had been through heart bypass surgery and had several small strokes. He fought until his last breath staying as active as he could. He never lost his sense of humor and his deep concern to keep everyone focusing on reaching the Lost. There is now no more pain...for Lowell or Connie. I would have loved to have been there to see the sparkle in their eyes for the beautiful reunion as Connie greeted him home...together once again! Lowell missed Connie so much as she truly was his other half.

Five days before he passed away, we talked to him on the phone, "Lowell! What are you up to today? " Without hesitation he said, "Waiting for tomorrow." I chided, "Keep breathing, Lowell, it will come." How wonderful that God gave him his "tomorrow" that he so longed for to go home to heaven.

Larry and I traveled 21 years with Lowell and Connie, criss-crossing the US and Canada singing, preaching, holding city-wide crusades, doing radio broadcasts, hosting weekly tv shows, and creating tv specials are just a few of the avenues we had to minister through.

 Three Brothers...Lowell, Larry, Leon
Lowell, Connie, Larry and I were called together to reach the lost! Later on, Leon (Larry and Lowell's brother) and his wife joined us as well. Multiplied thousands made decisions for Christ from 1961-1982 (at which time we ventured out on our own ministry). Through those years together, all of our children sang and played instruments and it was truly a family affair.

Lowell and Connie are gone---but the impact of their lives will continue to live on through all of those that made decisions for Christ. The ministry baton of Celebration Church has now been passed on to Londa, Pastor of Celebration Church, and Lisa, Academy Director and Staff Writer, along with the excellent staff that serves with them.

Every phone call we had with Lowell, he would encourage us, "Larry and Gloria, we are proud of you. Keep out there preaching and reaching the lost." When we received the call that Lowell had passed away, we felt, more than ever, challenged that we need to stay on the road carrying on the evangelism calling of the Lundstrom's sharing the simple Gospel message that people may come to know Christ!

Thanks, Lowell and Connie, for the memories. Now you can rest and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

P.S.  One of the favorite songs that Lowell wrote expresses so well what he felt and desired in his last days:

He Really Cares About You

Life is full of heartaches and broken dreams;
To live is not always as easy as it seems.
But God is so faithful so very true,
And He really cares about you.
CHORUS:
Don't doubt it, or deny it
Look and see what God has done;
To prove that He loved us,
He gave us His Son
Praise God for the answer, you know it's true,
That He really cares about you.

Hearts that have been broken can be renewed;
Christ knows how you're feeling, for His was broken too;
Just pray and believe Him
That's what to do.

Nov. 28, 1939-July 20, 2012

Remembering and Honoring the Life & Ministry of Lowell Lundstrom

Reverend Lowell Lundstrom, age 72 of Savage, Minnesota, founder of Lowell Lundstrom Ministries and Celebration Church, went home to heaven on July 20, 2012 after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson's.

Lowell was with family members when he died at his home in Savage, Minnesota. His homegoing comes seven months after the death of his beloved wife of 55 years, Connie, who was his lifelong partner in spreading God's word and love.

Lowell was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on November 28, 1939. He moved with his parents and brothers to Peever, South Dakota and grew up working on the family farm in the 40s. Lowell started a rock and roll band when he was 14 years old, and that same year met his new guitar player and future wife, Connie Brown.

Lowell's ministry began on April 7, 1957 when he gave his heart to Jesus while attending a service at Connie's church in Sisseton, South Dakota. The first words he said when he got up from the altar were: "Wait 'til everybody hears about this!" Lowell and Connie were married on June 14, 1957 and dedicated the rest of their lives to sharing the great Gospel of Jesus Christ. Lowell often said his heart was summed up in the following order: his God, his girl, and his guitar.

Lowell and Connie attended Lakewood Park Bible School (now known as Trinity Bible College). In 1961, he graduated from North Central Bible College, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Lowell became an ordained minister and was honored to be a respected leader in the Assemblies of God throughout his life. Lowell, Connie, and their children Londa, Lisa, L.J., and Lance, along with brothers Larry and Leon and their families crisscrossed the United States and Canada by bus, holding interdenominational crusades and evangelistic outreaches. The impact of this ministry is felt not only nationally but also internationally.

Lowell and his family ministry led an estimated one million people to Jesus Christ through preaching, music, literature, crusades, and radio and television programs during a ministry that spanned over five decades. Lowell was a world class communicator. Lowell was a prolific musician and writer. He wrote more than 600 gospel songs, produced 60 music albums and wrote 15 books. In 2005, he was inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame. Lowell and Connie wrote and recorded 30-minute weekly radio broadcasts "Message for America" for 20 years which aired on as many as 170 radio stations. He and his daughter, Lisa, co-hosted "Lowell Live" a radio call-in talk show. The family aired many nationwide one-hour TV programs and were known for their primetime Christmas television specials. For 12 years, "The Lundstroms" weekly TV program reached millions in the United States and Canada. He also served as president and chancellor of Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, North Dakota for 10 years.

In 1996, the Lundstroms founded Celebration Church in Minneapolis, an interdenominational church with a focus on evangelism and outreach. In recent years, Lowell passed the mantle of leadership for Lowell Lundstrom Ministries and Celebration Church to his daughter, Reverend Londa Lundstrom Ramsey, an ordained minister with the International Ministerial Fellowship.

Lowell was proud of his roots in rural South Dakota. Although he often appeared before massive crowds at his rallies and crusades, Lowell never missed an opportunity to lead one person to Jesus. Lowell's passion for the lost was his driving force in life. He communicated the Gospel with a combination of humor, sincerity, and practical Biblical truth. If there was one more person to be won for Christ, Lowell Lundstrom was committed to reach them. He often said, "You can't retire while hell's on fire!"

There is a book currently being written on Lowell Lundstrom's life and ministry entitled: "Wait 'til everybody hears about this!"

Lowell is preceded in death by his wife, Connie Joyce Lundstrom, who went home to heaven on December 13, 2011. Lowell is survived by his four children: Reverend Londa Lundstrom Ramsey (Reverend Brent Ramsey), Lisa Lundstrom, Lowell Lundstrom Jr. (Kim Lundstrom), and Lance Lundstrom (Paola Macassi). Lowell was blessed with five beloved grandchildren and two step-grandchildren: Chase, Conor, Grace, Reagan, Lowell "Zeke", Haley, and Zach.

Visitation hours are from 4-8pm on Thursday, July 26 at Celebration Church, 16655 Kenyon Ave, Lakeville, Minnesota 55044 with prayer and remembrance at 6:30pm. Homegoing Service is at 1pm on Friday, July 27 at Hosanna Lutheran Church, 9600 163rd Street West Lakeville, MN 55044. An additional service will take place at 2pm on Tuesday, July 31 at the Sisseton Fine Arts Center, 516 8th Avenue West, Sisseton, South Dakota 57262. Interment: Peever Cemetery, Peever, South Dakota. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be forwarded by the family to various causes including Lowell Lundstrom Ministries.

"Who are you..." an immediate puzzled response, "Who are you"? We stared each other down like two cats meeting in an alley, "Gloria Brooks-Lundstrom". I almost chuckled at the look of disbelief and shock painted across his face, "I haven't seen you since high school graduation in 1962." I gave him that certain stare, "Ya, and you are who?" He told me and I gave him the same response...shock! This uncomfortable, embarrassing moment happened over and over and over. You see, it was my 50thclass reunion. There were 77 in my graduating class and over 40 of us attended.

Who is Who?

"Who are you..." an immediate puzzled response, "Who are you"? We stared each other down like two cats meeting in an alley, "Gloria Brooks-Lundstrom". I almost chuckled at the look of disbelief and shock painted across his face, "I haven't seen you since high school graduation in 1962." I gave him that certain stare, "Ya, and you are who?" He told me and I gave him the same response...shock!

This uncomfortable, embarrassing moment happened over and over and over. You see, it was my 50thclass reunion. There were 77 in my graduating class and over 40 of us attended. To my surprise there were no name tags...as was at the 40th class reunion that I attended...I guess those in charge 50th reunion!thought this would be a good mixer to force each one of us to use the three-step method...maybe I should say four step method. One: look, two: guess, three: ask, and four: gasp! Rather than a mixer it was a messer to our minds. Whatever...it worked! Ha! It's amazing what 50 years of absence will hold: college graduation, marriage, new career, new home, grandchildren, advances in career, new toys (boats, motorcycles, classic cars, etc.), great grandchildren, new ventures in traveling...for some it was divorce, death of a mate and retirement. Of course, between all of this, broken bones, arthritis, heart problems, diabetes, cancer, etc. Yes, now some were limping, white hair, no hair, expanding waists, sagging muscles, menopause, false teeth...you name it, it is all a part of the game of life.

Our class

It was so fun to catch up with my former classmates and hear them tell us their past fifty years, their present life and what their future plans are.

Gloria with James Pickthorn

Here I am with James Pickthorn who was the M.C. at the class reunion. We sat next to each other in 7thgrade, he has an insurance business right next door to our ministry office and here we are side by side at the 50th class reunion.

At this time we've lost seventeen classmates...which tells you at the next class reunion (55th or 60th), we'll definitely be decreased in number.

Larry and I came back to the house and I sat for a long time and tried to assimilate all I had heard and seen in the short three hours. Wow!

I began thinking about each of us, as far as our past, our present and what our futures would hold. Which made me think about the spiritual picture...the class reunion was great, but what about the future - a heavenly reunion. How many of us will be reunited then? The Bible addresses the past: "Because all people have sinned, they have fallen short of God's glory (Romans 3:23)," the present: "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9)," and the future: "No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined the things that God has prepared for those who love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9)". With all this in mind, it's my prayer that we will all meet again in Heaven - wow, what a class reunion that will be.

Thomastown, Minnesota - ever heard of it? I hadn't until we were there. It's about twenty miles out of Wadena, MN. Nestled in central Minnesota among thousands of breathtaking pine trees is a beautiful country church, Thomastown Covenant Church. It is so picturesque it looks like it came from a scenic magazine. The stained glass windows, the meticulously kept cemetery and the beautiful sunset as we arrived was a gift of God created for us to behold.

But that was nothing compared to the wonderful people who quickly filled the church. There was a camp meeting feeling in the air. We were honored toJack & Grayce Trosen work with Pastor David Harlow and Jack Trosen, who was instrumental in bringing us in. Jack was the coordinator with Lundstrom Ministries for several years.

"What a privilege to work with you again. Many of the Thomastown people have been familiar with the Lundstrom Ministry over the many years you have faithfully carried on the work the Lord has called you to. It was great to see how the Lord continues to use you and the special gifts He has given from ministry in song to sharing the Word of Truth. There were several first time commitments and several rededications, all of which we so very much thank the Lord. It was also very special for Grayce and me to be able to sit down and recall old times of ministry together over the past many years. Praise God for His faithfulness. We look forward to our time with you again at Paynesville, MN in September. May God's strength and blessing continue to rest upon you both."

Jack and Grayce Trosen

Thomastown Covenant Church

After the service, a woman walked up to me sobbing...my first thought was that she was desperate and hurting and needed prayer. I compassionately put my arm around her to console her and she blurted out, "I am so happy; I cannot stop crying...I gave my heart to God in 1973 at a Lundstrom crusade and I have prayed earnestly every day for my husband since then. We both were very young at the time. Then tonight, when Larry preached the simple salvation message and presented the altar call, giving people an opportunity to come into a relationship with God...he shot out of the pew and went forward to pray the sinner's prayer. God answered my prayers...finally." I teared up, hugged her and said, "I would've traveled all these years over again, just to see this joy on your face because your prayers were answered."

Friends, if you have unsaved loved ones: keep praying - never, never, never give up.

1 pkg. pistachio instant pudding

1 (10 oz.) can crushed pineapple (drained)

1 (4 ½ oz.) container Cool Whip

Tips for a clean fridge

Wait to clean the refrigerator until the day before you go grocery shopping. The refrigerator will be almost empty, making it easy to spot out of date items, and wash down shelves. Line the bottom of your produce drawers with paper towels to absorb water and protect the bottom of the drawers from dirt. Store a box of baking soda in the refrigerator to remove odors for up to six months.

What is a simple pleasure in life? To me it is having a new refrigerator after being without one in the house for two months. I had to run back and forth to the motor home in the driveway, so this is simple pleasure: having a refrigerator in the kitchen. - Gloria

Happy Fourth of July!

I was reminded of an article that I wrote many years ago that is in my Heartprints book that I'd like to share with you:

Firecracker Christians

The Fourth of July is one of our children's favorite holidays, and they make the most of it. For a few hours during the day, LaShawn, LaDawn and Lee Donovan laugh excitedly as they play with bright sparklers. At sundown, they ooh and aah over the brilliant fireworks display at the park. But by morning, the only signs of the holiday celebration are burned wrappers and smoke marks on the sidewalks.

For too many Christians, serving God is like a Fourth of July fireworks celebration: a once-a-year event. Once a year they'll do something great for God. Then they put their talents back into storage, and the doldrums settle in again.

One of the devil's tricks is to tell someone, "You can't serve God. You haven't got the ability, much less the resources. You'll offend someone if you witness for Jesus. You'll make a fool out of yourself."

I fought that battle against discouragement for many years. No matter how hard I tried to do my best for the Lord - whether by singing, speaking or writing - the devil nagged me. "Who do you think you are?" he'd say. "What makes you think you can write? You don't know the first thing about writing. Critics will laugh when they read your article."

After I wrote my first article, which appeared in the Lundstrom's monthly Message Magazine, I fell for the devil's trick. I decided not to write anymore. After all, if people were offended by what I wrote, how could I possibly help them with their spiritual needs? Helping people is the whole purpose of my ministry.

A few months later, I prayed, "Dear God, here I am. Give me any opportunity to minister for You, and I'll do my best to accomplish Your Will. Please help me." The Lord reminded me, "Gloria, where would this ministry be if Lowell (my brother-in-law) had given up 30 years ago. What if, after he had preached his first sermon, the Word had offended someone and he had thrown the Bible to the floor and said, 'That's it. I'm not going to preach the Gospel anymore'? Gloria, thousands of people have been saved through this ministry. Marriage have been restored, families reunited and people set free from addictions. Think of the people who have become pastors, evangelists and missionaries because they heard the Gospel at a Lundstrom rally and accepted Jesus Christ. Gloria, can't you see that the devil is robbing you of your joy when you serve Me?"

That thought made me react immediately. "Hey, devil, you aren't going to take my joy in ministry away from me anymore! I'm going to do what God wants me to do, no matter what."

Paul wrote, "I can do all things through Christ, Who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). He could, and we can too. We cannot accomplish God's will by ourselves, but we can with His help! While waiting in a dental office one afternoon, I noticed a colorful poster on the wall. This was the caption: "People who say they can't do it are usually interrupted by someone doing it!" Jesus wants us set free to do the Father's Will and experience joy in His service.

If you have tried to do something for the Lord and failed, could it be that your motives were wrong? What you need to do is realize that you belong to God. You are His heir. God will give you all the resources you need to accomplish His purpose. Make up your mind whether you plan to serve yourself or to serve God. Once you dedicate yourself to God, He will show you what you can do for Him with His help. God will take the fear of failure out of your life and fill you with a winning outlook.

As you go forward in God's service, you will accomplish great and lasting things. Unlike brilliant fireworks, which display their glory in a moment and are gone, your life's work will glorify God forever. As the bible says, "Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever" (Daniel 12:3).

May your day be full of family, laughter and many blessings as our nation celebrates freedom, liberty and justice today. God bless America!

Happy 69th Birthday to my husband and best friend... Larry!

We were sitting here over our morning D&D (date and devotion time) and was sharing with him how wonderful it's been and how blessed I have been to have spent every one of his birthdays together since we were married - which totals 46. If I remember right, the first birthday gift I gave him was a white shirt to wear to church. Gifts were always necessity gifts.

One year ago, Larry had surgery due to his spinal cord being 90% compressed. Our future looked bleak and uncertain - but if you have followed us through the website and newsletter... he has been kickin' hard as ever, keeping up with services across the U.S. and his missions trip to Africa earlier this year. The biggest problem I have now is to "slow him down" and not lift more than he should. I can rejoice and truly say that he is as driven for the Lord in the ministry as always (I just have to take extra vitamins and hang on as tightly as I can as he flies along -ha!). I am thankful that as his wife of 46 ½ years I can truly say that his burden for the lost has never dwindled or wavered. He talks, walks and breathes it - I know - because I am with him 24/7, almost every hour of the day. Many of our friends and family describe our relationship as "joined at the hip" - ha! What a joy and delight to be married to my best friend and to be able to minister with him, right by his side, all these years.

Last weekend we ministered in Alexandria, Minnesota at Living Waters Assembly of God. It was a sweet morning of ministry to families and encouraging the hurting and searching. We were honored to have so many personal friends we've met through the years join us for the morning service, plus a group of RV MAPS volunteers. In case you're wondering what this is, they are retired Seniors who dedicate their time, finances and labor to build on churches all over the U.S. and the world the people may come to Christ. We have a deep respect for them.

Service at Alexandria, MN

We enjoyed working with Associate Pastor Rich , and also Paul Anderson, who runs sound for the church, and Keyes Burgess. What an on-fire, young man who is called to ministry.

"This was my first time being in one of Larry and Gloria's services. I was blessed to be a part of the worship, as both a sound man and as a counselor.

I am also ordained and work with a truckers ministry, so I am familiar with ministering on the road and the hurdles that come with it.

I was touched by their anointed ministry. Mark chapter 16:15 says "Go into all the nations proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ to all, and heal the sick in my name". This is exactly what happened today during their service and worship. The Gospel was clearly proclaimed and the sick and hurting hearts were made whole in Jesus Christ."

"Thank you so much for coming to Living Waters Church last Sunday and blessing us with your presence and your Godly wisdom. There was a couple that came to church for the first time who have been struggling in their marriage, and he came forward for salvation. I am so excited! We will continue to mentor them - what a privilege!

We were very blessed to hear your testimony through song and anointed message that the Holy Spirit imparted on you to share with us. It takes committed people like you two to go and minister the message of hope. Everyone needs it. Thanks again - blessings from Minnesota!"

It's always such a thrill to see the lives of people changed! We have really enjoyed ministering in the tri-state (MN, ND, SD) area this summer.

Happy Birthday Larry!

Also, if you would like to send a quick birthday wish to Larry, go ahead and send it to our email at llmin@venturecomm.net. He would be tickled!  We were able to do an early celebration last week in the cities with our daughter, LaShawn and grandson, Dante.

Have a great weekend!

You've heard the statement, "It has to get worse before it gets better." Well, we are there - it's worse! No, it's not our health it's a house repair project from a leaky refrigerator (that happened one year ago) that damaged our living room floor, family room ceiling, hallway, carpet, etc. The real good news is that we've had awesome services in the past two weeks.

Until then...mess, mess, mess.

The real good news is that we've had awesome services in the past two weeks. June 9 and 10 we ministered at Victory in Life church in Elbow Lake, MN. Elbow Lake is nestled among some of Minnesota's beautiful 10,000 lakes. On Saturday, I spoke at a Women's Luncheon and shared about the gift of forgiveness and the importance of forgiving to be able to really live!

On Sunday morning we sang and ministered and again, God did what He does, the Holy Spirit drew people of all ages to Him. Many of those who responded to the altar call were looking for hope after facing crisis, addictions, fear, loss of loved ones, etc. Many of them also responded because they had no assurance on life beyond the grave. The tears of joy and relief on their faces, again, made the trip worth it.

Pastor Mike Cieniawski was so wonderful to work with; he has such a passion for the hurting and lost. He commented:

"We were so excited to have you come. We've been planning this for over a year. Our heartbeat is to reach people for Christ. We are so excited about all those who made commitments for Christ. We want to become partners with you to reach the lost. As a church we are going to support your ministry financially each month and our women's group also committed to support you monthly so Gloria can continue to minister to other women like she did here and to help set them free through forgiveness."

Last Sunday, we were so happy to be able to minister in our home state at De Smet, SD. Many of you know that De Smet is a "little town on the prairie", made famous by author Laura Ingalls Wilder. The Ingalls family was lured by the prospect of free land from the Homestead Act of 1862. The Ingalls family traveled over a thousand miles in a covered wagon to claim land (I can't even imagine the journey, I get tired and weary of just riding in a motorhome). Millions have read Laura's Little House book and tourists from literally all over the world flock to this little prairie land to visit, enjoy and relive the Ingalls lives through a pagent, museum, etc.

The church we sang and preached in is the church Pa Ingalls helped build in 1882. The historic church survived the winds of change. It has met the test of droughts and depression for nearly 100 years to leave its own mark on the lives of the faithful in De Smet.
I'm quite sure that Pa Ingalls would have been pleased and would have loved to have been there last Sunday morning to see all those at the altar making decisions for Christ. As Larry presented that altar call, the sun was beaming through the stained-glass windows, I thought to myself, "Yes, this historic church building represents many things and events that have taken place- but nothing is more thrilling than seeing lives changed at the altar."

Pastor Marty Reynhout

"Thank you so much for your ministry to us in De Smet last Sunday. I was overwhelmed by the response to your clear gospel presentation. I honestly expected only a small handful of people to come forward, but thirty came instead! God was clearly at work in our midst, and I thank you for allowing Him to work through you in such a wonderful way. May He continue to bless your ministry."

Jack and his wife Alisha"Thank you so much for sharing your ministry with us. It's difficult to put words to the impact your visit to our church had. The service was humorous and the music was engaging, but the best part of your visit was how you made a very simple presentation and then stepped aside to let the Holy Spirit do His work. Larry's simple message cut straight to the heart of so many that were in attendance because it was a message of truth brought by a God-gifted evangelist. Thank you for stirring and challenging DeSmit Christian Alliance Church."

"When Larry and Gloria Lundstrom came to our church, I enjoyed the music, light hearted humor and message. However, as I looked around the sanctuary I was fairly certain that few, if any, would respond to the altar call. Thank the Lord I was greatly mistaken! We had over 25 people respond and either receive Jesus for the first time or rededicate their life to Him. In a congregation of about 80 attendees, this was a big harvest! What a great day...this is what it is all about!"

Happy Father's Day!

As Father's Day is getting closer I am reminded of what a blessing a Father truly is. They are the leaders of our families, homes and ultimately influence the state of our nation.Let us always remember to lift them up and cover them in prayer, as well as determine to show them their importance in our lives, the lives of others and how much they are loved by us.It's not an easy "job", but the rewards are eternal!

We wanted to share this touching video called, "Lead Me".  It's a poignant reminder of the calling of a Father:

May God pour out many blessings of strength, faith, compassion, love and favor on our fathers - Happy Father's Day!

Penguins...Little Known Fact

Did you ever wonder why there are no dead penguins on the ice in Antarctica?Where do they go?

Wonder no more!
It is a known fact that the penguin is a very ritualistic bird which lives an extremely ordered and complex life. The penguin is very committed to its family and will mate for life, as well as maintain a form of compassionate contact with its offspring throughout its life.

If a penguin is found dead on the ice surface, other members of the family and social circle have been known to dig holes in the ice, using their vestigial wings and beaks, until the hole is deep enough for the dead bird to be rolled into, and buried.

The male penguins then gather in a circle around the fresh grave and sing:

"Freeze a jolly good fellow."
"Freeze a jolly good fellow."

Then, they kick him in the ice hole.

You really didn't believe that I know anything about penguins, did you?

Happy 100th birthday Dad!

My emotions were teetering between tears and laughter as I tied a birthday balloon to the headstone of my deceased father Clair Brooks. Like a little kid I gleefully chirped, "Happy 100th birthday Dad."

I miss him - he passed away at 87 years of age when I had just turned 55 years old...I was officially a senior. Dad always joked, "When you turn 55, we both can go get our McDonald's senior coffee and take advantage of all the 'freebies' for seniors." And then...he up and left me! It wasn't fair...that wasn't the plan.

Dad and I

As I stood there with a balloon swaying freely in the soft breeze, I let my mind race back to a number of childhood memories. I was "Daddy's Girl"... his only girl as I had 10 brothers - 5 older and 5 younger. I cherished being loved, spoiled and protected by him. Dad was born June 6, 1912 in Howard, SD in a family of 13 children. Dad was not prefect...but he was perfectly full of energy, mischief and spunk! For a man who only had an 8th grade education, he definitely was a man ahead of his years. He had extraordinary wisdom, common sense, knowledge and motivation. He could fix, invent or repair anything. As a young teenager it was his dream to have an auto repair shop and a car dealership. In fact, when he was about 16, he built his own car from parts he gathered around the country. His dream came true when he started his own business. The word "Dad" and "work" were synonymous. He believed that everything that breathed should work and make their own way through life. Clair BrooksWhen each of my brothers were about 5 or 6, he started them with sweeping floors at his business. He worked with us kids since we were little on washing cars, teaching mechanics, parts department, paint shop, motorcycle and car sales, wrecker service and salvage yard. I'm sure Dad felt a huge obligation and burden to keep his 10 sons and me out of mischief. With that in mind, he also had a ¼ of a city block that was a huge garden. I've never seen or pulled so many weeds! Well, dad's dream came true. We kids never got bored as he made sure we had more than plenty to do. Of course, I was assigned to babysitting, cleaning, cooking, diapers, dishes, gardening, canning, ironing (yuck) and baking.
Dad also loved fun! He just loved to have fun. He became a kid, just like us. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, sledding, ice skating, hiking, swimming, cookouts, camping, travel...and he loved to eat. He always was a great story teller. It was up to us to decide which ones where truth or made up - ha! When we weren't working, he did anything he could do with us kids that gave him an excuse to be a kid.

One of my most treasured memories is when our family was invited to a church in 1952 and an invitation to receive Christ in our hearts was given. We all stepped forward and prayed. Dad was so at peace. I was mesmerized as I watched him read the bible every spare moment he had, morning, noon and night. He devoured the Word, and I loved to hear him pray.

He was also a great witness to others. Almost every night he took a couple of us younger kids on evening walks and often we'd stop in a home of someone who was hurting or without Christ and he would boldly share the Gospel story, and he would tell them that "Jesus is the answer" to all their problems. As a little girl, this really made an impact on my life. I also loved to watch him in church as he sang the congregational songs (out of tune - ha!) and he drank in every word that was preached. Dad also taught me by example about tithing. On his dresser he kept an old box of tithe envelopes and the last thing he did before he went to bed was to put the tithe money in that little envelope to take to church the next morning. Guess who does the identical thing? Me. I make out my tithe and giving checks just like he did.

Dad and I

This morning as I stood there by his headstone I couldn't help but get a bit tearful thinking about how I miss my dad's "Bear Hugs". After coming home from a long tour on the road, he would greet me, wrap his arms around me and squeeze real tight. I miss it.

Yes, I had mixed emotions and a few tears, but I'm reassured that Dad does not miss me like I miss him - because he is "home" in heaven with all his loved ones who have gone on before. I can't wait to get my bear hug when we are reunited.

Happy 100th birthday Dad, from June 6, 1912 to now, June 6, 2012.

"What a joy to be a counselor at  your rally at our Nazarene Church here in Oakes and to see the great response to the altar call. Larry's sermon and illustrations made the message so easy to understand. Thanks for coming."

Last Sunday we sang and preached at the Battle Lake Alliance church in Minnesota with Pastor Jeff Lawson. He's another great, motivated pastor.  We were thrilled to see several make decisions for Christ.

" It was refreshing to hear the Old Gospel message put to song in a fresh and relevant way. Come back any time! "

celebrating a son dedicating his life to Christ!

After the altar call, a father of a teenager approached us and tearfully said, "My wife and I have been praying for our teenage son. This morning when Larry gave the invitation for
those to come to Christ, he stood right up. My wife and I just sat there and cried tears of joy. I was a Muslim and my wife led me to the Lord years ago. This new life is so wonderful and now our son made a decision as well. We are overjoyed!"

Extreme Workout

I may be a spry Senior, but I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctors permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But, by the time I got my leotards on, the class was over!
