A week ago on Mother's Day we ministered in Wahpeton, ND at Harvest Outreach Church with Pastor Dominick and Loralie Warne. What a precious family. I had so much fun ministering to the moms, encouraging them: don't give up, don't run away, just pull closer to Christ.
At the end we had all the mothers come up front, create a circle and had all the children or mates come up and pray as a family a prayer of forgiveness and commitment and that the family would be one for all eternity.

"Gloria and Larry, Thank you so much for returning to Harvest Outreach Church. Your love for people and to minister to the lost is passionate! We love to see people living for Jesus with vibrancy! Rev. Dominick & Loralie WarneYour message to Mom's was really a message to the family and it included a point to ponder for everyone. Thank you for being real and transparent. We heard several comments that your message "hit home", "it was timely", and it "was a powerful seed planted" to those needing to make a decision for Christ.

We loved our time with you personally. Thanks for loving on our kiddos, your inclusion and conversation was a joy! It meant a lot to us and to them! Blessings and may God open doors everywhere you go...new and old!"

Pastors Dominick and Loralie Warne

I am writing now from the Black Hills of South Dakota. We are nestled in a motel in the pines with a room filled with computers and office work. I'd rather be outside hiking, but you know how it is…gotta work -ha! We will be based out of here for the next two weeks to do our services and office work.

We had a wonderful service this past Sunday in Stickney, SD at the United Methodist church with Pastor Marlin & Carol Sapp. It's always so thrilling to see a hunger for God and it proved so in the altar call. God did a miracle in the life of a man who was recovering from alcohol, who made a first time commitment and what a joy to see the peace on his face and the joy on his wife's face. It was great seeing friends that we've met through the years…in fact, many years. Some remember Larry and I from when we were first married, if that gives you an idea of how old they are, and how old
we are - ha!

"It was great to still see the Holy Spirit at work in the church at Stickney, SD. Blessing to the both of you as you fulfill God's call on your ministry."

Stickney is a small community, just about 30 miles outside of Mitchell, SD. We were honored to stay in the Lincoln House, which is a Bed and Breakfast, which is listed in the Historical Society. Saturday night we got to bed early to be well rested and ready for Sunday morning service. Just before we went to bed we had the TV on and watching the weather patterns of impending storms and tornado warnings. We were in a deep sleep when the siren went off a block away. I thought, "Oh no, I don't remember my alarm clock sounding like that or being that loud!" I awakened enough to say "Larry, I think that's a tornado siren." He groaned, "Oh." I said, "Oh, no- we have got to get up, we are on the second floor of this little historical bed and breakfast." The siren blared mercilessly, causing my heart to pound and making me wonder when this tornado was going to hit.

We quick threw on our regular clothes and were just going out the door when the siren stopped. We stood there awhile and then quickly took of our clothes, and jumped back in bed…only to have the siren start blaring again. Frantically, we threw back on our clothes, ran down the long staircase to outside wondering, "where do we run, where do we go?" As we stood there in turmoil, someone came up to us and informed us that it was actually an emergency siren, not a tornado siren. We were relieved but definitely awake for the rest of the night. I told Larry after breakfast the next morning, "Larry, I learned one thing through this siren alert: if it had truly been a tornado, you and I would've been caught up in it for as slow as we moved to get out of there." He, of course, just laughed.

"I learned one thing through this siren alert if it had truly been a tornado, the slow speed at which we moved, we would've been caught up in it. We need more emergency drills to practice our timing.

Right after I wrote this, the news broke out on the weather channel announcing the deadly tornadoes that had hit Oklahoma. We are praying for those who have lost their homes and loved ones. We can make plans, but we never know what interruptions in life are going to take place. Again, it challenges us to always be ready to meet the Lord, as we never know where our next heart beat will be.

Enjoy the next couple of weeks; whether attending graduations or remembering many on Memorial Day, live in His peace and joy and set up opportunities for others to do the same!

Four Things

Four things a man must learn to do
If he would make his record true:
To think without confusion clearly;
To love his fellow men sincerely;
To act from honest motives purely;
To trust in God and Heaven securely.

{ Recipe}

Cream Cheese Balls

1 (1 lb.) pkg. cream cheese

Dash of Tabasco sauce

Dash of Worcestershire sauce

6 slices crisply fried bacon - crumbled

Salt & pepper to taste

Combine all ingredients until well blended. Roll into marble-sized balls. These may then be rolled in chopped nuts or crushed crackers. Yield: 24 balls

{ Household Hint}

Since most recipes call for both salt and pepper, keep a large shaker filled with a mixture of both. ¾ salt and ¼ pepper is a good combination.

I ran across this article and wanted to share it with all of you. Motherhood is such a treasure, both to mother and child. With Mother's Day coming up on Sunday, rest in the knowledge that God created YOU to be the mother of your children. He has confidence in you. Whether they are young or old, close or far away, He will give you the love and knowledge for every situation. Lean into Him always and He will show you the beauty of living in joy and peace, no matter what circumstances you may face.

How Mothers Were Created

(excerpted from Motherhood The Second Oldest Profession)

While the Good Lord was creating mothers He was into His sixth day of "overtime" when the angel appeared and said, "You're doing a lot of fiddling around on this one." And the Lord said, "Have you read the spec on this order?"

She has to be completely washable, but not plastic. Have 180 movable parts…all replaceable. Run on black coffee and leftovers. Have a lap that disappears when she stands up. Have a kiss that can cure anything from a broken leg to a disappointed love affair. And have six pair of hands.

The angel shook her head slowly and said, "Six pairs of hands…not possible."

"It's not the hands that are causing me problems," said the Lord. "It's the three pairs of eyes that mothers have to have."

"That's on the standard model?" asked the angel.

The Lord nodded. "One pair that see through closed doors when she asks, 'What are you kids doing in there?' when she already knows. Another here in the back of her head that see what she shouldn't, but what she has to know, and of course the ones here in front that can look at a child when he goofs up and reflect, 'I understand and I love you' without so much as uttering a word."

"Lord," said the angel, touching His sleeve gently, "come to bed. Tomorrow…"

"I can't," said the Lord, "I'm so close to creating something so close to myself. Already I have one who heals herself when she is sick…can feed a family of six on one pound of hamburger…and can get a nine-year-old to stand under a shower."

The angel circled the model of The Mother very slowly. "It's too soft," she sighed.

"But tough," said the Lord excitedly. "You cannot imagine what this Mother can do or endure."

"Can it think?"

"Not only can it think, but it can reason and compromise," said the Creator.

Finally, the angel bent over and ran her fingers across the cheek. "There's a leak," she pronounced. "I told you you were trying to put too much into this model. You can't ignore the stress factor."

The Lord moved in for a closer look and gently lifted the drop of moisture to his finger where it glistened and sparkled in the light.

"It's not a leak," He said. "It's a tear."

"A tear?" asked the angel. "What's it for?"

"It's for joy, sadness, disappointment, compassion, pain, loneliness and pride."

"You are a genius," said the angel.

The Lord looked somber. "I didn't put it there."

Greetings from the Road! We left Texas last week and drove into Oklahoma. It was interesting to see a field of corn that was up about 6 inches. I thought to myself, "I'm sure the Midwest was hoping that the snow was melted by now and that the fields were dry enough to have planted their crops." We're thanking the Lord that Fargo, North Dakota, where many of our friends are, has been lowering the flood predictions.

Rev. Bruce & Virginia Von Waald
Last Thursday we had a wonderful community service held at the First Assembly of God church in Wagoner, Oklahoma sponsored by our longtime friends, Pastor Bruce and Virginia Von Waald from the Wagoner Church of God. It's always exciting to have a united effort and see churches come together for one purpose - to see people saved and lives changed. Thank you, Pastor Bruce for all the details and preparation you went through to make it a successful rally.

"I've known the Lundstrom's most of my life. I received Christ as my savior at a Lunstrom meeting in Thief River Falls, MN in 1969.

It has recently been our honor to help host Larry & Gloria in a joint service together with the local Assemblies of God Church in Wagoner, OK. We had a wonderful time and lives were touched. Since the service I've heard comments from those who attended that Larry and Gloria are genuine, humorous, soothing, encouraging, and carry a simple gospel message. Our two churches in this town were truly impacted and ministered to in a special way. We look forward to when the Lunstrom's can make their way to Wagoner again."

Duane & Mae Von Waald
This precious couple, Duane & Mae Von Waald, has been writing us letters of encouragement to us every month for years. It was so sweet to meet them in person after 15 years.
Larry with Dave & Georgiea
From Oklahoma we drove into Paola, Kansas and spent a day with our longtime friends, Dave and Georgiea Slyter and their daughter Lachel, her husband Mike and their family. They royally entertained us for a day with lots of home cooking that we are now wearing around our waist...great food that expanded the waistline!
Gloria & Georgiea
Dave and Georgiea and Mike and Lachel have been faithful supporters of our ministry for many, many years.
It's friends like them, and many others, that have kept us rolling down the road to win the lost. We are so grateful for their love and support.

When you get this update, we will be rolling into Sisseton after being gone since January. We told our staff we weren't coming home until the tulips pushed through the snow...I think we're real close - ha!
On my counter in the motorhome I have two tomatoes that have been sitting on the counter for over 2 weeks. They are as beautiful and firm as the day I bought them. Our daughter LaShawn gave me lesson in buying tomatoes two years ago.
She instructed me, "Mother, always buy the tomatoes that have the vine left on them. Otherwise, they will rot immediately if left out." She said, "These will keep for days and days." Secretly I questioned her advice, so I tried it, and now have been doing this for months.

Here's the spiritual application that came to me last week. John 15:5 says, " I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing."

It is so true. If we will stay connected to the Giver of Life, the Vine, we will stay strong and sure in our faith; so confident in His love and provision for us that we are able to be at peace. This is available to all of us, through our acceptance of what Jesus did for all. The "fruit" of that kind of connectedness is a life that overflows with His love, joy, hope and peace...because it flows from Him (the Vine) to us (the branch). That is the kind of life He offers us.

Every time I look at those tomatoes, it reminds me, Lord let me stay connected to the vine that gives me spiritual life, knowing that apart from you I could never make it, but with you, I have life - and abundant life.
Have a week full of His abundant life until we chat again!

Greetings from Longview Texas! I just called our home office in South Dakota a little while ago and they are preparing for another blast of winter…who would've thought there could be nearly 5 months of winter and snow - ha! It's 30 degrees there in South Dakota and it's almost 90 degrees here in Texas. We too are preparing for another storm, but not of snow, but the predictions of high winds, tornadoes and large hail. So…my prayer-tower (my hands) is up praying for protection for everyone - and for our motorhome, car, Larry and me! All these strange weather patterns definitely point to End Time events.

Pastor Richard & Joyce Amador

Before we came to Longview, we ministered in Crosby, Texas at Son Harvest Church with Pastor Richard and Joyce Amador. It was a small crowd, but God accomplished great things.
I love it when we have our plans, but God takes it "His direction"…it's always better. Pastor Richard told Larry, "I am a pastor, not an evangelist, that's why I have you come - for the anointing on the altar call for salvation."

Last week, Larry made a quick trip to Nashville, TN and to Hilton Head Resort in South Carolina to be with our daughter, LaDawn as she received a special "Winner's Circle" award from Verizon where she has been employed for 15 years. What a joy for the two of them to be together! Verizon paid for airfare, hotel and expenses for her to bring one guest. I prompted her Daddy to go and share the moments and make memories. He was gone 4 days and sure missed my other half.

Our friends Gary and Carolyn Rowden from Longview Texas, whom Larry has known since before we got married, were so kind to let us park at their home and drove us back and forth to the airport in Tyler, Texas. Thank you Gary and Carolyn for your kindness to us - you've been wonderful friends!

Larry and I went to an Arby's a few days ago and as usual, Larry was joking with the staff and everyone was in hysterics. We ordered 4 Arby's sandwiches off the value menu, sat down in our booth, took the meat out of two of them and put it on the other two and in a mischievous moment I said to Larry, "Take this empty bun and wrap it in the paper and ask for a refill and see what they say." Larry did, and the gal at the counter laughed and laughed and Larry sat back down.
About 3 minutes later a worker comes up to us with a sandwich that they "refilled" with meat, at no charge, saying "Thank you for the entertainment, we needed that today." By this time everyone was laughing. Only Larry could get by with that!

As Good Friday and Easter are approaching, I was reminded of this article of Larry's that really captures the spiritual climate that we are living in now.

The Cross Made the Difference

At the beginning of the twentieth century, Andrew Murray wrote: "It is the great need of the church today to have the crucifixion of the flesh preached, and the cross restored to its place (the cross of Christ)." Some of us recall the "deeper life" conferences which revived the emphasis upon the Christians' deliverance from the power of sin. It was, as Paul Harvey would say, "the rest of the story." It is part of the message that has fallen into neglect. Too often, we are offered a "cheapened gospel"-just pray a prayer and then go do as you like! Can the reason be the same as was indicated by Murray? He wrote: "It is easy for man's wisdom to win men to a cross that leaves them uncrucified."

A sad proclamation that is often heard is, "you can't tell the difference between the church and the world" (referring to the lack of seeing a lifestyle change, of course). When we are saved, our lifestyle and lip-style should undergo a noticeable change. That's called the "Crucified Life!"

Many are faithfully led to the cross for salvation from the penalty of sin. Few of them are led into deliverance from the domination of their old, carnal nature. They have come to the cross of Christ, but have not gone with Him to the other side to live on resurrection ground.

To go through the cross is consent to the death of one's self-life. It is to recognize that it was not only His death; it was our death, too! When He died, we died. When He rose, we rose with Him, ascended with Him, and are seated together with Him at the Father's right hand (II Cor. 5:14-15, Eph. 2:5-7). In Romans 6, we learn of our identification with Christ in His death and resurrection and how to apply it to our daily walk.

It is time for another revival of this truth. The time has come to rally around the preaching of the cross that crucifies the flesh, disturbs the self-life, plucks out the carnal eye and cuts off the offending hand. It puts the "self" in us to death.

Often, the reason why Christians do not grow in grace, or become more effective witnesses for Christ, is that they haven't died to the flesh and taken on the identity of Christ. The world needs to see the difference-the change in our lives!

There is a lost and dying world that needs the Gospel message. Let's be faithful as "Crucified-with-Christ" Christians to point others to the cross of Christ. Let others see what a difference the cross has made in your life!

Amen! May you have a weekend that is blessed with His grace, love and overcoming presence.

Gloria

Greetings from the Gulf Coast - specifically Biloxi, Mississippi!

We drove in here last Friday night and are perched in an RV park until Friday when we drive to Metairie, Louisiana (New Orleans) for our Sunday morning service. Larry is "itching" to get back into the pulpit!

Speaking of Larry...thank you to all of our family, friends and partners who have held him up in prayer. He's doing good - he's just a bit tired and lacking a little physical strength. Good news though...he came through the TIA without any side effects! We praise God for His almighty hand on him at that time - and five baby aspirin. In case you wonder what that's all about - when this impending stroke hit him, we were sitting in a restaurant. LaShawn and I knew something was going very wrong when Larry looked confused and had trouble talking. (He usually doesn't have that problem - Ha!) I gave him 3 baby aspirin, and five minutes later I gave him 2 more. A long, long story made short, the Neurologist and Cardiologist approached me in the Emergency room while they were doing tests on Larry, looked at me with piercing eyes and asked, "Are you the one who gave him 5 baby aspirin?" I was scared to admit it, not knowing if I did something really wrong, but I let them know I had. Well, the Cardiologist looked at me and proclaimed, "Those baby aspirin saved him from a massive stroke!" He smiled, held up his hand, gave me a high-five and said, "Good girl!" Wow, you'll never know how relieved I was to hear that!

So anyway, God is very good, He's always good. Now it's just the task of keeping Larry from being overly active and keeping him off ladders...it's a huge security job for me - ha!

Speaking of ladders...when we left Orlando last week, we had driven about an hour when we heard a flip-flap-flip-flap. We pulled over into this little town, Groveland, FL, and Larry went out to investigate. He realized that the rubber seal around the windshield on the driver's side was starting to pull off...not good. There was a little Glass shop nearby so he went in to get some help and was told that they outsource their work. So, he walked down to another place and bought some windshield adhesive and hoped that he could get someone there with a ladder to help, but they didn't have one. (Note: I have already strictly warned Larry that he is not allowed up on a ladder 12 feet high...NO way.) Without being able to find any help, he looks at me and announces, "I'll have to get our ladder out and go up and fix it; I have no choice." Oooooh no. You've heard of an anti-labor law? Well, his wife, this woman, has an anti-ladder law with no exceptions! Raising my voice to a level where he could feel what I was saying, I announced, "Absolutely not - no, no, NO." As I was making that big announcement I saw a fire station over his shoulder, about a block and a half away. Jumping to a quick conclusion, as I often do, I announced, "There is the fire station. They will have a ladder and they will help us." Inside I prayed, "Oh, I sure hope so." Knowing I wasn't going to give in, Larry gave me this, "Oh no, here we go" look. But I insisted and persisted and he willingly walked over to ask if they would help us. (You know how hard it is for a man to stop and ask for directions, or ask for help?)
So, we drove over there and these two wonderful, upbeat, volunteer firemen came out and when Larry asked if they could help us, their response was, "We'd be more than happy to help you."
Interestingly enough, the Fire Chief told us, "My mother has a fear of heights and won't let my dad go up a ladder either." Yay, I had one on my side!
The younger fireman climbed up the ladder, cleaned the spot, put the adhesive on the weather stripping and let us sit there at the fire station for about an hour so it could dry.
Then, on the road we went! It was just another remind of how good and timely God is when we really need Him.

We will be ministering in the New Orleans area for two weeks and then traveling on to Texas. If you are in the Metairie, LA area come out and join us this Sunday morning at 10:00 AM:

First Assembly of God of Greater New Orleans

2001 Transcontinental Dr.
Metairie, LA
We'd love to see you there or in Bayou Vista, LA the following Sunday morning!
It's our prayer that you will, like we have, find that God is forever faithful. Sometimes circumstances may scare us nearly half to death, but He is faithful to bring us through. Over and over in the Psalms, it reads, "Call on me and I will hear you and answer you." That is truly a great comfort to me and I pray it is to you too.
Gloria
PS. As we left Orlando, we were so blessed to have our cousins give us a box of freshly picked oranges to take with us - what a treat!

{ Quote }

"When we face difficulties, we sometimes forget God's past faithfulness. We see only the detours and the dangerous path. But look back and you will also see the joy of victory, the challenge of the climb, and the presence of your Traveling Companion who has promised never to leave you nor forsake you."

A Minnesota couple decided to vacation to Florida during the winter. They planned to stay at the very same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 20 years earlier. Because of hectic schedules, it was difficult to coordinate their travel schedules. So, the husband left Minnesota and flew to Florida on Thursday. His wife would fly down the following day.

The husband checked into the hotel. There was a computer in his room, so he decided to send an e-mail to his wife. However, he accidentally left out one letter in her e-mail address, and without realizing his error, he sent the e-mail (without realizing he sent it to someone else).

Meanwhile.....somewhere in Houston, a widow had just returned home from her husband's funeral. He was a minister of many years who was called home to glory following a sudden heart attack. The widow decided to check her e-mail, expecting messages from relatives and friends. After reading the first message, she fainted.

The widow's son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor, and saw the computer screen which read:

To: My Loving Wife
Subject: I've Arrived
Date: 16 May 2003
I know you're surprised to hear from me. They have computers here now and you are allowed to send e-mails to your loved ones. I've just arrived and have been checked in. I see that everything has been prepared for your arrival tomorrow. Looking forward to seeing you then! Hope your journey is not as uneventful as mine was.
P.S. Sure is hot down here!

Only when you travel as much as we do will you see things like this!
This was in Winter Haven, Florida. It is a Police Taxi car used as an incentive for people to drive carefully,
and not to drink or use drugs. Be sure to read what is printed on the hood. It definitely gets everyone's attention!

{ Recipe }

Rainbow Cake

1 pkg. white or yellow cake mix

1 pkg. vanilla instant pudding

1 cup cold water

½ cup cooking oil

4 eggs

Mix the above ingredients. Pour 1/3 into a bowl and add 1 small can of Hershey's syrup. Add a food coloring to the other 2/3. Use a Teflon Bundt pan, or grease a Bundt pan and pour chocolate mixture into the Bundt pan, then pour colored mixture over the chocolate. Run a knife through to marble. Bake at 350 degrees for 50 minutes.

{ Household Hint }

When beating egg whites do not tap the beater on the bowl of the egg whites. The jarring of the beater will cause the whites to lose a great deal of their fluffiness. The beater should be tapped on the hand to clear off the whites.

First of all I apologize for not getting to you sooner! I was swallowed up in the midst of the crisis with dead cell phones, no chargers, no computer.....

GOOD NEWS! We brought Larry back from the Orlando Medical Center and he is doing soooooo much better.

Hello from Orlando,
First of all I apologize for not getting to you sooner! I was swallowed up in the midst of the crisis with dead cell phones, no chargers, no computer.....
GOOD NEWS! We brought Larry back from the Orlando Medical Center and he is doing soooooo much better. We thank you for all your prayers, as we know God definitely protected him from a major stroke.
I cannot go into all the details, but I will try and give you the short version. We had just come out of church. Our daughter, LaShawn, was with us as she was on a tour, had a day off and asked to spend it with us. (How awesome is God in His timing!) We were en route to a restaurant and Larry was driving. I noticed something was unusual with Larry, like he was in a daze. We pulled off to get something to eat. At this time, we definitely noticed he was in a daze, his speech was slurred, and his memory was struggling. LaShawn and I immediately knew something was seriously wrong. I gave him 3 baby aspirin while Lashawn called the medical center. I noticed he wasn't getting any better so I gave him 2 more baby aspirin, and we headed to the hospital. They rushed us in and started an IV. In about a 4 hour timeframe, his speech and memory started coming back.

They admitted him, did all the tests, and all looks well, except an artery in the back of his neck, which is very narrow. We asked about putting in a stint, and they said, "NO", as it is too dangerous. They have tried in the past and the patient died! So we voted that idea down. They said this may never happen again (happened 7 years ago) or it could happen in a hour, day, months or whatever. They changed his medication to something stronger to hopefully blast out any swimming clots that would surface.

So here we are, knowing through all the prayers that God brought us through another valley. We just have to "live life", be wise, and slow it down to a good pace (which is the reason we have taken a few weeks sabbatical, because Larry ~and I~ were just overly tired.)
Thank-you for your prayers. We will do the "turtle" pace for the next week and move on to Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas on a slow paced schedule. Please continue to remember Larry in your prayers. Thanks for bringing him thru the valley with all your prayers. It means soooooo much! Love all of you!!!
Gloria
P.S. Below is the original entry regarding Larry from yesterday. Also, we discovered that when when our web site hosting updgraded the programs, there was an error and some of you may have not received the recent "On the Road" updates. We have included links to them here in case you want to "catch up". Blessings on all of you and thank you for being our ministry family!

Dear Friends,

Greetings from Florida! How great are the mercies of the Lord! That song has danced through my head most of the night…His mercies are forever and ever!

Unfortunately, we hit another speed bump yesterday with Larry as he experienced a TIA (mini-stroke---impending stroke). We rushed him to the hospital. An excellent hospital staff hurried him through the crowded ER room as it was apparent he was struggling with his memory and his speech. He was doing considerably better hours later.
We are on our way back to the hospital this morning to get the results of the MRI, CAT scan, bloodwork and other tests. We appreciate your prayers for Larry and for us.
We love all of you! God bless you! We will keep you updated as we can!
Gloria

If you know Larry at all...I am sure the nurses heard a joke like this at least once....HA!
"Did you hear about the guy who lost his whole left side?"
HE'S ALRIGHT NOW!
or maybe like this one...
Q: Why did the cat go to the hospital?
A: To have a cat scan of course!
or maybe like this one....
"Doctor, Doctor. I feel like a bucket."
"You do look a little pail."
or maybe even this one....
"Doctor, Doctor...my little boy has just swallowed a roll of film."
" Well, let's just wait and see if anything develops..."

Happy Valentine's Day! The focus of today, for many, is LOVE - how to show it, how to get it, how to give it. While it's wonderful to set aside special time to remember our loved ones, we believe an ongoing appreciation and commitment is love in its purest form; the kind of love that changes hearts, binds us together and makes us better people.

I wanted to share Larry's article in our latest newsletter on this very topic. May we be challenged to walk in love, every day.
Remember the Commitment

"'Till death do us part!" Those words should be written in several places in our homes to remind us of our binding agreement to stay together. A few years ago I saw a TV program that showed a couple being married in church. I was stunned as I heard their vow, "As long as we both shall love."

Marriages are becoming like the thousands of products advertised as "disposable." We live in a society of throwaway bottles, cans, diapers, towels, shavers and even disposable swimsuits. The "disposable" mindset has also spread and we now have disposable marriages, children, parents, churches, religion and God. The new philosophy is, "If you don't like it, throw it away!" One hundred and fifty years ago when the oath, "'Till death do us part" was taken, a determination was instilled in those tough pioneers that no matter how difficult the marriage might be, they would stay with it. Even if they had thought of divorce or running away, where would they run and how could they get there? Transportation and jobs were scarce and towns were far apart. Those brave people determined, "We'll make it!"

I was reared in a family of 13, with ten brothers...five older and five younger than myself. I was sandwiched right in the middle. Dad was a car dealer, and he worked hard to support us. Mom should have been given a purple heart award for keeping her sanity with eleven children who were always into something. One day when my brother, Larry, was about seven years old, he asked, "Mom, don't you have days when you feel like running away?" She laughed and responded, "Oh yes, but where would I go, how would I get there and who would want to keep me? So I guess I will stay right here at home with you sweet kids." She was actually saying, "I'm staying right here. I will make it!"

At one time, years ago, we were involved in one-night rallies for months on end. That was tiring enough, but I had never been able to sleep while the bus is rolling. Usually, fatigue would eventually catch up with me and I tended to become a bit crabby. Late one night, Murphy's Law ("Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.") was in full operation. The bus had been hitting and bouncing over a seemingly infinite number of section lines on the concrete interstate and secondary roads. I felt like I was trapped inside a giant paint shaker. "I can't handle it anymore," I thought to myself. "I just can't stand one more bump in the road. I'm jumping off!" Half asleep, I ran up the aisle to tell the bus driver, "Let me out. I can't stand anymore!" At that moment, I glanced out a window and discovered that we were traveling through a rough section of Chicago. The sight I beheld of drug addicts, gang members and general darkness overwhelmed and shocked me. Suddenly I calmed down as my perspective quickly changed, "Oh well, I guess riding in the bus is better than being out there." I went back to bed.

Today...more money, newer cars, better jobs, adult peer pressures, social clubs and all kinds of entertainment and new technologies are taking a toll on marriages. If things get rough, a woman is tempted to think, "My husband doesn't even know I exist. I'll show him. I'm just going to do my own thing." Before long, being a wife and mother just isn't fulfilling any longer. She begins to think she's married to a deadbeat so she disposes of husband number 1 and tries husband number 2. After a time when he doesn't bring fulfillment and excitement, then she tries husband number 3, then number 4 and possibly on and on. This same type of disillusionment happens to her husband. He's caught up in his work, too busy making money to remember that he has a wife and children at home. He becomes more and more involved in his business, in dinner meetings and completely immerses himself in a different world than one that includes his wife and children. He meets many attractive women. When he does come home, he finds thathis wife isn't as beautiful and intriguing as the lady business executive he just met. The thoughts begin that he would rather not be tied down to a wife and children. He would just as soon leave the house with its mortgage payments and upkeep. He thinks, "I will get rid of it all. I want to be free!" He disposes of his marriage and leaves behind a broken home and broken hearts.

Please understand...in both examples above, these people haven't truly alleviated their problems. They have just acquired more complicated and complex problems. Many marriages breakup because people had unrealistic expectations of living happily ever after and weren't prepared to face the responsibilities of the real world. There is no such thing as a perfect storybook marriage, but there are happy, and thriving marriages. They are the result of people's commitment to each other and to the Lord, combining their ambitions, goals, efforts, love and determination to make it work.

If you've ever felt like giving up - CHEER UP! You can make it! Remember your commitment to your mate and to the Lord. First Corinthians 13:7-8 gives us a great guideline for what love really means when you feel like giving up, "{Love} beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. {Love} never faileth." Please pray with me that God will help you to remember and renew your commitment.

Jesus, I come to You with praise and thanksgiving for Your total commitment to Your Heavenly Father. Your commitment and obedience led You to death on the cross of Calvary so that I might live. Now I ask that You would instill within me that same love, insight, obedience and commitment to you and to my mate. Help me daily to commit myself, my will, ambitions and goals to You and to the one to whom I've committed my life in marriage. In these rough times, renew a right spirit of love and forgiveness within me and give me the stamina to keep persevering. Help me to keep my eyes upon You as the perfect example of commitment. Amen.

May you have a day full of expressions of love and opportunities to show His love to everyone around you - and yes, I mean everyone! We love you sweet friends!
Gloria

Wow…January 2013 is almost history! One twelfth of this year almost gone, yes, time flies!

Larry and I have dedicated the past couple of weeks to prayer, study, booking and office work and seeing God's will and direction for the future. As usual, January is a tough month to book rallies as churches are "recovering" from the busyness of all of the December Christmas programs and activities. For churches, January is usually the month for refocus and in house fasting and prayer as they prepare for the 2013 church calendar. We have taken the past three Sundays to attend different churches here in Florida. It has been so refreshing to "sit and take in". One never knows how spiritually hungry they are until the spiritual hunger pangs hit! I was feeling it and the messages have been so inspiring and challenging.

I tell Larry, "I want to attend church but I want to be anonymous"…(hard to do when Larry is so recognizable and "talky" - ha!). Because of our hearts for people and the nature of evangelism, we are often the ones to be ministering to others. We truly feel this is our calling and we genuinely love all the ways God uses us to connect His heart to others. But, there are times I feel the need to be able to be in a service for the sole purpose of soaking in truth and basking in His presence. I just love that connection with Jesus…I just need to feel His touch, hear His voice, drink in and let His Word give strength to move ahead. Again, let me reaffirm something here, I love people and I love to minister and to be with people, but then there are those times that I just need the focus and stillness of Psalms 46:10, "Be still and know that I am God." I know God has a hard time getting me to just being still. I am a go-do-go-do person. I'm sure there are many of you who can relate. There are times I just need to stop…and listen. So, for me, this time of focus, study and stillness has been precious.

Forty-some years ago my mother gave me this poem with the instructions, "Missy, read it, and do what it says." (I still need more practice on this one). Please enjoy and share with others!

Slow Me Down, Lord

Slow me down, Lord.

Ease the pounding of my heart by the quieting of my mind.

Steady my hurried pace with a vision of the eternal reach of time.

Give me, amid the confusion of the day, the calmness of the everlasting hills.

Break the tensions of my nerves and muscles with the soothing music of the singing streams that live in my memory.

Teach me the art of taking minute vacations - of slowing down to look at a flower, to chat with a friend, to pat a dog, to smile at a child, to read a few lines from a good book.

Slow me down, Lord, and inspire me to send my roots deep into the soil of life's enduring values, that I may grow toward my greater destiny.

Remind me each day that the race is not always to the swift, that there is more to life than increasing its speed.

Let me look upward to the towering oak and know that it grew great and strong because it grew slowly and well.

- Orin L. Crain

Is this what you call multi-tasking? HA!
These last few weeks have also been a time of making phone calls and connecting with many partners and friends who are facing terminal illnesses, loss of loved ones, financial crisis and attacks on marriages and families. If ever we need to be there for each other…it's now. Let's be that encourager, listening ear and sunshine in someone's life. Let's be that intercessor and prayer warrior for those who have prayer needs. Let's be those who lift up and bring perspectives of life and hope to those struggling around us.

Well, if you are in the Midwest or in the subzero temperatures, I hope that you're staying warm. If you are in the warm temperatures and have sunshine, palm trees and sand, I hope you are enjoying it and not taking it for granted - ha! Be blessed until we talk again.
