January 25, 2017

Greetings from Florida! It's a beautiful day, and any day above ground is always wonderful! I was on the phone this morning and the lady I was speaking to said the following line, "Life is no fun if you're not smiling." How true is that? When you read about everything that's happening in the world in the news, politics, etc. we can still smile because know that God is in control.

It's hard to believe that almost a month is already gone of this year. My mother used to always say, "The longer you live the more quickly life passes by." Or as Larry likes to say, "Life is like a roll of toilet paper, the closer to the end you get, the faster it goes!" Ha!

I ran across this poem that I thought was fitting for this month after Christmas – and how true it is! Pounds come on easier than they do coming off…Larry and I both know that for a fact!

T'was The Month After Christmas

T'was the month after Christmas and all through the house
Nothing would fit me, not even a blouse.

The cookies I'd nibbled, the eggnog I'd taste.
All the holiday parties had gone to my waist.

When I got on the scales there arose such a number!
When I walked to the store (less a walk than a lumber).

I'd remember the marvelous meals I'd prepared;
The gravies and sauces and beef nicely rared,

The wine and the rum balls, the bread and the cheese
And the way I'd never said, "No thank you, please."

As I dressed myself in my husband's old shirt
And prepared once again to do battle with dirt---

I said to myself, as I only can
"You can't spend a winter disguised as a man!"

So--away with the last of the sour cream dip,
Get rid of the fruit cake, every cracker and chip

Every last bit of food that I like must be banished
Till all the additional ounces have vanished.

I won't have a cookie--not even a lick.
I'll want only to chew on a long celery stick.

I won't have hot biscuits, or corn bread, or pie,
I'll munch on a carrot and quietly cry.

I'm hungry, I'm lonesome, and life is a bore---
But isn't that what January is for?

Unable to giggle, no longer a riot.
Happy New Year to all and to all a good diet!

As we are taking time to build sermons, and set up our schedule, we are getting excited for the next ministry tour. We'd ask for your prayers as this Thursday we fly to Nashville for both of us to meet with our Cardiologist on Friday to make sure the "old ticker is working good."  The beginning of January, at Larry's last appointment in Nashville, they found he also has an A-Fib flutter and were going to do a Cardioversion immediately to shock the heart to get it back in rhythm. But, to be on the safe side, they put a probe down into his heart to make sure that everything was okay. They prepped him and took him in for the procedure and put him under. In about 45 minutes came back out and the doctor told us that he had a blood clot in the upper left ventricle of the heart. How thankful we are that they did the procedure of the probe to the heart , as they told us if they had done the cardioversion to shock the heart to put it in rhythm, he could have gone into cardiac arrest. So, with that being said, we are very grateful and thankful that the Lord had us there (even though Larry didn't want to go in for a check-up and his daughters and son made him do it). God was in it.

How ironic is that we both have an A-Fib? Larry claims he caught it from me – ha! We are praying and believing for good results and appreciate your prayers on Friday the 27th, that God will give direction as to what we do next. With that being said, we are at a bit of a standstill waiting for things to stabilize before we hit the road.

I hope you've had a wonderful January with the election and everything that comes with it now done; we need to remember to pray for our president and staff. No matter who you voted for, they will need God more than they've ever needed him. Pray that President Trump would seek the godly advice from those who surround him, and for his protection. Blessings on you!
